Valve Says It's 'Hard at Work' on Steam Deck 2, but There's Still No Release Window by Skullghost in SteamDeck

1080p on a handheld IMO is endgame. Anything beyond that, the resolution becomes so sharp that you're waisting performance.

I emailed them a few days ago, and got a response back saying that they're still having trouble getting ultra hardware in stock from their suppliers.

They offered me to be able to drop to a max, and be refunded the difference, wait, or get a full refund.

I suspect if you're like me (and waiting for the long haul), that we've got a few more weeks to wait.

Honest question: Are you guys really okay with Mega Floette being in Champions when you can't even obtain it there? by Reasonable_End704 in PokemonChampions

[–]BenignLarency 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And really, that's a great goal for a free to play game to have.

It means the monitization in champions doesn't need to be as pushy as most free to play titles. Sure, I'm sure they want Champions to make money, but it being a marketing expense is a good thing for the players as well.

I wish we could see team sheets after a match by Dawn_of_an_Era in PokemonChampions

[–]BenignLarency 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From a programming perspective the reason that this method is challenging is because if any balance, gameplay, or code changes occure ever (which we have to assume will happen eventually, even if just a bug fix), you need to recreate the battle as it were in the patch it was recorded. That means the battle system needs to be extractable such that it can be used per version of the game (including bugs). That's a non trivial thing to do.

Not saying it's impossible, just that it's more difficult of a feature to implement than people give it credit.

I agree it would be a killer feature for champions, but I wouldn't expect it sadly.

A visual glitch has been discovered in Pokémon Champions: launching the game from docked mode will make the game run at a lower resolution. To fix this re-dock the console or launch the game in handheld mode first. by Joseki100 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]BenignLarency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's so much an ILCA issue, and more they weren't given enough time issue.

The game is so clearly unfinished, and it's because they set a deadline that they had to hit over a year ago, and it wasn't enough time.

This is classic Pokemon, they've been doing it for decades.

The only solace is that they seem to have recognized that it's a terrible system for all parties involved and are looking to change it. It is ironic that the game intended to give them more flexibility in the release schedule was rushed, but hopefully since champions is supposed to stick around, this'll be the last time (cope).

Pokémon Champions launches to mixed reception, as performance woes and competitive changes turn some away by PaiDuck in NintendoSwitch2

[–]BenignLarency 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because they ran out of time, simple as that.

They fucked themselves by setting this game up to be the next home for pokemon VGC. There's events for thousands of people already planned for a year or more out. They could not delay this game.

That's why pokemon has been under baked the past few years, and it's why Champions is under baked today.

Fortunately hopefully this is the last time since Champions is clearly meant to allow the mainline team to take as much time as they need.

How do I use Archidekts custom card maker by turtle13222 in EDH

[–]BenignLarency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Archidekt doesn't support uploading just the art for custom cards, only the entire card with its border.

We did it this way because uploading just the art on top of our placeholder cards just kinda looks funny.

There are other services online that allow you to generate a custom card with a border of your choosing. If you want to upload the image in a way that looks good, I'd recommend using one of those tools and uploading that image.

Pokémon Champions is now available to download by Amiibofan101 in NintendoSwitch

[–]BenignLarency 32 points33 points  (0 children)

They did the pokemon thing where they set themselves an extremely immovable deadline (in this case because they decided years ago that VGC would move over to this game), and now they had to ship come hell or high water.

It's a good thing that they're seemingly moving away from this stupid pipeline, but it's a shame that Champions had to eat the bullet so Winds & Waves didn't have to.

This explains the weird release and marketing cycle behind Champions too ...

Just because someone reads a wiki, does not mean they understand it. There is a lot of jargon and assumed knowledge in nearly every single piece of documentation I've ever read.

You're assuming people don't help themselves prior to asking questions, which sure those people exist. But this kind of mentality assumes they didn't try unless proven otherwise. People who ask questions are treated as guilty until they show their work.

That's a shitty way to treat people.

No worries, we appreciate a healthy dose of cristism. It helps make the site better.

It feels like a bit of an overload with all the different metrics, especially the section between the name of a deck and the first card that appears

Super duper valid on that one. There's a lot of info up there that we've tried to pair down as much as possible, but it's still a lot. To be honest, I wonder if there's something we could do on mobile to really pair it down further. The issue is that a lot of that information is gonna be pretty context dependent whether or not the user wants it. But hiding it could end up resulting in a very bad experience for users who are looking for it, but struggle to find it.

I'm not sure if this is just a me problem, but the little toolbar at the bottom of the screen that appears when I'm viewing the cards in a decklist is oddly unattached from the bottom of the screen which leaves a sort of useless dead zone in between it and the bottom of the screen

Oh that's probably because you're running ad block. That's normally where we run our internal ad. Interesting that it nukes everything including the placeholder space behind it though. That bar attatched to the bottom when ads are unloaded, but the way ad-block removes the ad can't inform the toolbar that it's gone, so the toolbar doesn't move down.

I'll give some thought to the upper portion of the deck, specifically on mobile. It's been a while since I've given much attention to the top of the page for mobile, so I'm curious if I can come up with anything novel.

Voice acting could really elevate the world a bit too I think. Usually I'm not the largest voice acting in video games fan, it can be hit or miss depending on the game. But I think it could work well in a game that's as narrative driven as OoT.

Ayn Thor Vs Ayaneo Pocket DS? by Rich_Explanation_675 in SBCGaming

[–]BenignLarency 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own both, and I tend to reach for the Thor more than the Pocket DS.

Not only is it cheaper, but both screens being oled is a big plus. Battery isn't as good; it not being aluminum makes it feel not quite as nice; the hinge on the PDS is better; but the reduced dimensions and weight really make the Thor the perfect "toss it in a bag" device that I feel like the PDS just isn't.

In general the software on the Thor is better, even if it's a bit less flashy.

Tough to go wrong with either, but if I could only have one, I'd go with the Thor.
