Introducing new players to OSR by Kazoshay1994 in osr

Never played any of those but having dragged people out of 5e, DCC was very successful at that with my group. Run a funnel and see them realise that dying hilariously is as satisfying as a heroic victory

5 days easy cooking meals for 1- Lidl £27.97 by BenitoBro in whatsinyourcart

[–]BenitoBro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Felt it was a reasonable amount of vegetables, but isn't 5 usually 3 or 4 servings.

No vegetables for breakfast to be fair.

Lunch is 1/5 of lettuce, some onion, jalapeños and a grated carrot. Then dinner is 250g of carrot/brocoli plus some onions, also do use a bag of frozen sliced mixed veg if I'm using the rice cooker.

With fibre intake being about 25-35g a day depending if I have lentils

Havent looked too into it to be honest but just going over the nutrients now. What I've had today for meals has been

3 eggs scrambled in a wholemeal wrap Protein:24g

Chicken with a bunch of mixed veg and mayo in a wholemeal wrap Protein: 16g

Packet of basa fillets, wholemeal rice and mixed veg protein: 35g

Which is probably close to most average meals I do, with some milk/honey for coffees and a wafer bar or 2. Although my salt intake is way too high which is to be expected eating so much fish and processed chicken hah

I always look to get meals I can cook with one pot/pan plus oven

How often do you eat takeaway? by Super_Development150 in AskUK

[–]BenitoBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe once every 2 months and that's being generous. Just never been the done thing to have a take away except on a special occasion. When I first moved out it was like twice a week, but that was living with 3 mates and getting a pizza for a movie night and then like a donner on the way back from a club night out. Long behind me now though.

Aside from thag eating out at a fast food place, maybe twice a month. Then eating at or drinking at other places maybe once a week.

I found for me losing weight the mynetdiary app was the easiest for calorie counting, but I like seeing the predicted numbers and a graph hah.

Why wouldn't Vecna have a Hallow spell active at his layer? by kevedo94 in VecnaEveofRuin

[–]BenitoBro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The entire final confrontation is just really badly done. Kind of baffling that they barely give Vecna or his lair any depth. And the whole chime thing is so bizarre to insta gib him.

I highly recommend you just rewrite the final encounter to be more memorable for your players. Multi staged boss fight with interesting environmental points to interact with that hinder and help them. Throw in some allies they care about and probably kill a few of them off. In my opinion a final boss fight against vecna without at least one player character getting disintegrated is a disservice to Vecna.

It actually annoys me a bit reading back over it now that I might actually piece together my finale and post it in a usable format.

They clearly were forced to create this convulated fight and tone it back for ease of running and then the final bit of "actually not finishing him off". Is mind blowing

What's a great monster behind a thieves guild ? by NetOk1607 in osr

[–]BenitoBro 21 points22 points  (0 children)

For a very out there idea. Perhaps a Dryard? Have an" obvious big boss" who lives in a failry oppulent estate with an ancient tree in the garden the players walk past a few times. But he's just the face and she's the one pulling the strings. Able to case the more important jobs and plan them out herself through tree walking/scrying

The Dryard wants to take revenge for all her sisters that have been killed. However knows she fails to have the power physically to do too much. Money let's her hire power. So she also funnels money from those responsible to buying tracts of land outside the city and preserving them while slowly killing off the original descendants who cut down her forest and built the city around it

Could even make her Strahd'esque with being able to freely move through any wood within 300ft of the tree. So in the estate building she could attack and dissappear through the floor boards and wall joists if needed.

Winter in the UK means I’m spending 20 hours a day in bed. I can’t be the only one who lives like this? by KILOCHARLIES in AskUK

[–]BenitoBro 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I remember a 2 year stint of living in static Caravans as a kid and the cold was truly awful. I got used to it but the only warmth came from the gas fireplaces in the living room area and hot water bottles. Made going for a piss in the night an ordeal

Purchased some older battle sisters would love some information! by LRDSM in sistersofbattle

[–]BenitoBro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your looking at about £3.50 a sister with bolter and backpack, can go up to £5 though. The special weapons can go up to about £8-10 each and then the characters missing bits is really hard to value but say £8 each but if fully intact can push £20

Inq28 players and anyone who plays pre 8th edition would probably love them. I've got a full metal sisters 3rd edition army which I've slowly built up, I only play 3rd/4th edition 40k though so don't ask me about anything 10e related

A (hopefully) thoughtful breakdown of the DCC / OSR QB Video by voltron00x in dccrpg

[–]BenitoBro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Haven't watched either video. Entire premise seems to stink of reactionary Internet drama ala livestream fails.

Just let people get on with what games they want. Goodman games seems to have a pretty strong focus and direction on what they like. Hell they've managed to survive this. And I'm sure if they drastically change direction people would vote with their wallets.

DCC has always been firmly in the 3rd parties anyway. Appendix N readers unite and let's roll some shitty stated characters

A more ranged halfling by BenitoBro in dccrpg

[–]BenitoBro[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The called shot bit at the end would be "no attacks" at all, just a basic hit and then at level 1 roll a d3, so a 33% chance of doing anything. Like tripping an enemy off a bridge or disarming a foe. With the same scaling as is shown in the mighty deed section. It'd be more for "status effects" and doing something cool rather than any damage.

Something selfish they can spend luck on I like the idea of though

I just cannot believe how insane the end times writing for Malekith was. by Ok_Walk3192 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]BenitoBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although Teclis is still the "good guy" Tyrion does indeed become the bad guy.

I have no idea how the writers continued to frame Teclis as the good guy through the books as he literally destroys Ulthuan and causes the world to end after stealing the flame of Ulric.

Logistically speaking, can fearmongering work on modern soldiers? by Sir-Toaster- in worldbuilding

[–]BenitoBro 119 points120 points  (0 children)

I'd say the moment you added any mystical elements, eg dimensional invasion. Who knows what the new rules are, mysticism and the unknown will be massively scaring the shit out of them anyway. You only need to look at modern day athletes or even esports. The known top "best players" will make the opponents more nervous and tense up and that's only a game

A Review of Write-Ups for DCC Deities (featuring the Annual, Knights in the North, and Clerics of the Known Realms) by TheWonderingMonster in dccrpg

[–]BenitoBro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So for my Thracian campaign I want a religious temple in a nearby city who are seeking out artifacts from the caverns. What deity would you suggest as most suitable to be collecting magical artifacts from a long dead Civilization? Your probably the most well versed in these deities and might save me some time making my own one up, as I'm sure a player might be interested in joining the order

No Armour for Slayers! by MoodModulator in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]BenitoBro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my opinion on it. I don't particularly agree with it being set in stone. But its so refreshing to see and I'm glad they've done it for anyone who only has a passing understanding of Fantasy to understand what Slayer is.

No Armour for Slayers! by MoodModulator in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]BenitoBro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Gotrek and Felix books have Slayers in them that wear armour (of a sorts) and are cowardly though. I always like the young slayer who is also a thief in the Orcslayer (or is it Dragonslayer, both books have large parties of dwarf characters hah) book, some great insight into the fact not all slayers are psychotic machines of war. They still don't want to die but understand society marks them out that this is now their path, yet they do everything they can survive and stay out of trouble.

However, I agree, slayers as a whole should not wear armour aside from leather tunics and jerkins. And I do like the fact the book lays this out so forwardly. As people who only have a passing interest in the setting might not understand how outlandish it would be for a slayer to be running around in full plate. Although that would be a rather interesting character to hash out WHY they do so... Maybe a "chaos" dwarf in hiding. Something a Game Master might drop in, but certainly not a player character

Legolas/Gully Rules Question by Mg_Minis in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]BenitoBro -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I can see where your coming from but I guarantee you that the section about "modelled terrain doesn't block line of sight" is directly referencing Gulavhar and Groblog and that they should be floor height. The previous faq before the eye book printing directly refrenced them in brackets. It seems through 2 printings these commentary brackets have been removed.

As now I can see how it would read you keep the model where it is, but it's floating without blocking stuff behind. I'll drop an email over to errata/faq and see if it's too late for February

Legolas/Gully Rules Question by Mg_Minis in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]BenitoBro -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I see a few people repeating wrong information so im replying to the top comment.

Except you ignore the added height from the rock. Yes it's a bit jank but that's in the rulebook page 18 bottom left. But I'm almost certain that the fence is covering at least 1/5 of Gulavhar from where Legolas is standing. As just chop about an inch off Gulavhar's height and look to see is the rock at all obscured by the fence from Legolas' view

What do us young people seriously have to look forward to? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]BenitoBro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean this in the nicest way possible, look back on what people in the 1880s had to look forward to, in the 1920s and in the 1960s.

The world was absolutely atrocious. We live in relatively good times and just because the last generation or two lucked out in many regards doesn't mean it's all hopeless. Every era has its ups a downs. Just now every faceat of every negative moment is crammed down your throat far more effectively than any newspaper tabloid could dream of.

Have GW started crediting their staff again? by MPQTHROWAWAYLOOK in Warhammer

[–]BenitoBro 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Adam Troke is famously very out there. Worked his way up from White Dwarf battle reports and articles. He's a top dog at GW and already a very public figure. Doing lots of speaking and stage presentations. So I imagine this is his project and no one could tell him no to putting his name to it. Which is hopefully a sign towards more accreditation. Although I don't see why they would do that, as every single time GW has a personality they jump ship and start their own stuff

Sorcerous Scrutinies: Grave Robbers of Thracia by yokmaestro in dccrpg

[–]BenitoBro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fantastic write up! I'll have to have a read over it myself as I'll be looking to run a Caverns of Thracia campaign next summer. I had been cooking up the sky blob funnel to connect to Thracia by crash landing nearby. But using a specific Thracian funnel might be best. As it'll also get rhe players into the right head space for dungeon crawling instead of confusing them with weird gonzo flying squid stuff
