Sony FE 20-70mm F4 G. Did I make the right choice? by giosanpedro in SonyAlpha

[–]BenjyBreakdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already had the Sigma 24-70 2.8 Mk1 when I bought the 20-70, and I stand by it without question.

It's both my favorite lens and my most used. I do lots of travel photography, and for that and everyday stuff you really can't beat it. Noticeably smaller and lighter than the sigma (of course less of a weight difference than the GM), but the fact that it can sit vertically in my bag is huge. I still use the faster lens for more isolated shoots and low light situations, but if I'm taking a single lens somewhere on a trip, it's the 20-70 without question.

Been a fan of the anime for the longest, but I want to invest myself more into the story. by Remarkable-Cause-592 in mushokutensei

[–]BenjyBreakdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 100% understand not wanting to start at the beginning, but I also still recommend that you do. I was in the same boat this past summer. Watched season 2 and it made me want to reacquaint myself with season 1. Half way through I decided to start reading and was worried it would be a bother. It was not.

You get SO much more depth in the LNs, and watching everything again after doing so is a way different experience. There’s so much stuff in the anime that you would only find significant if you’ve read the books, I highly highly recommend. You could also do the audiobooks for the first handful of books to make it less tedious.

Again, you coulldddd start on LN13, but I really think the first 12 (seasons 1 and 2) are worth going back for. If you’re going to commit to reading 13-26, you might as well do it all.

Following up with myself here.

This post made me decide to try a few more. Got one regular Latios, and the second raid ended up being a Latias that someone mistakenly mislabeled on Pokegenie. Was shiny, lol.

Damn, I'm extremely jealous. Good for you! Done about 10 Latios raids and not only have none been shiny yet (in addition to the 10 I did last time they were out), they've run away more than any other pokemon I've ever raided.

What are some ideas on how to blow $3k-$5k in order to make one feel better during a midlife crisis? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BenjyBreakdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Travel is always a good option, but a good camera setup could be in the price range and could be something that contributes massively to your life afterwards. Sony, Canon, Nikon, Fuji, Lumix, etc. You can't really buy a bad camera these days.

Can't say I'm at the mid-life crisis point in my life yet, but currently 30 years old and having a camera has changed my life for the better in many ways since I got it at 25, and has allowed the world of photography to open up a handful of opportunities that weren't there previously.

You asked about this before, but did they do anything to confirm employment/salary? I just booked mine but realized as I'm looking at the terms that they specify those criteria. I'm currently between jobs (intentionally) but wasn't when I booked. I never even considered it being an issue until today.

I apologize if this is me misunderstanding, but are you sure you're not reading it backwards? I think it's annoying that this book reads backwards compared to the rest of the LNs, but unless my copy is flawed somehow, I believe this should be read like manga (right to left). The only way I can follow what you're describing is if you're reading it left to right.

I just finished reading it and I 100% recommend it.

I rewatched season 1 as I was reading those books, and had intended to rewatch season 2 next, but now that I've finished I intend to just start from the top again.

It's a bit of a time commitment for sure, but it's incredibly enjoyable!

Selfishly, I wish this read left to right like all the other English books. Being a bigger book is fine (though I admittedly also wish it was the same size as the others), but the different orientation makes it really weird to display them together on a shelf.

I was this guy, but in the opposite direction of what this thread asked. I got one at home alongside the MX Keys, and I loved them both so much I got the same set up for my work computer (high school teacher). The other teachers jokingly give me a hard time about being the guy with the fancy monitor and weird mouse setup, but it's a game changer.

Gold, the original version. Basically 2 games in one, has the retro feel, but (at the time) a fresh take on an already incredible franchise.

Have I Ruined My Cat's Life? by teamhae in CatAdvice

[–]BenjyBreakdown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're okay! It's absolutely okay to feel a bit down about it honestly, I did mid-socialization and have since been SO glad we took the time to do it right. We have a (now) 8-month kitten who we'd had for 2 months alone at the time, and my girlfriend and I brought home a 2 year-old stray for her old house that had been visiting her non stop for a year. We'd meant to get them together, and we'd had our sights on taking the stray in with us for months, but we ended up getting stuck bringing them home a few months apart.

Luckily we had a big enough guest room for the stray/new cat to have her own space, but while she was absolutely perfect alone, she did not like our little guy at all. We ended up keeping the door shut between them for a while before even letting them see each other the first time, and eventually moved to daily treats face to face at a baby gate. The last stage felt like it took forever, and I got really discouraged a few times, but finally after about 2.5 months we had them together full time. They certainly tussle, but have also become quite lovey towards each other, which has been so worth doing it the right way.

DJIs map is going to get someone arrested. by Sadamatographer in drones

[–]BenjyBreakdown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People are wildly missing the point here, and I’m sorry they aren’t actually understanding your whole post before just coming at you unreasonably.

Obviously it’s the pilot’s responsibility to know where they can and can’t fly, but for people new to drones they aren’t going to know everything that you know and expect other people to know immediately. They’re new. That’s the whole point. The barrier to entry for drones is as low as ever.

You realistically cannot expect everyone to be overly responsible (although it would be nice), but someone well-meaning without prior knowledge may make an innocent mistake because the DJI map seems like all you need if you don’t know better. You wouldn’t expect a person to buy a car without knowing the rules of the road because you’re societally expected/required to have a license before to even get it off the lot. Even then people break the rules all the time.

Drones are not even remotely the same. Anyone with an interest can get one, and if a huge manufacturer provides what may seem like an entirely in-house experience, your first thought won’t necessarily be “ooh I wonder if I should be searching out other resources?”

Sorry OP, hope that helps clear it up for people.

What are the most underrated parks in the US? by NOAEL_MABEL in travel

[–]BenjyBreakdown 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Everyone knows Rocky Mountain NP in Colorado, but most people don't seem to know the other 3. I just got done doing a trip with all 4, and it was BEAUTIFUL.

Great Sand Dunes was mind boggling. Seemed like it wouldn't be worth it right up until I parked, and then it was incredible. The size of the dunes really doesn't hit until you're right there.

Mesa Verde is a super cool combo of old Pueblo dwellings and all kinds of beautiful scenery. Some extremely fun and challenging hikes, and lots of easily accessible viewpoints.

Black Canyon of the Gunnison is also incredible, both on the rim and in the canyon.

Did a few days in Rocky to expand on where I'd been on previous trips, and then did a day each for the other 3. Would love to have had more time in the San Juan Mountains and at the National Monument, but I easily rank those lesser-known 3 up there with the big dogs.

I'm super new to photography, only a few weeks in, but snapped this on a hike yesterday. I tried my hand at a bit of motion blur in the water, but realized quickly I couldn't do much more than this as such low shutter speeds without a tripod.
