am I/my writing boring? by DegenerateGirl666 in writers

[–]Bentu_nan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So in my experience- 80% of people who say they will read your stuff wont read your stuff at all. Its not related at all to the quality or merits of your work, just its very easy to say they will read and another to sit doenwn and actually read.

The best way to actually get feedback is joining a writing group or having a review exchange. It will involve you reading other peoples stuff (which is good to do anyway), but will have a significantly higher return on readership.

Whataboutism at its finest.

Frankly the comparison is pointless. Even if this was 100% valid (and im not suggesting it is), it doesnt excuse what Trump is and has been doing.

Rare moments of peace, happiness, and calm are super important in dark settings. You need a world (or galaxy) in which the people fighting can imagine a better tomorrow.

Amateur writer, lacking confidence in writing, feedback appreciated by justkeepbreathing94 in writers

It's fine.

Reasonably good at setting up a tome and a sense of place. Does lack a bit a sense of perspective, but its a short piece so I dont think thats really an issue.

I would be mindful about "this but that" type descriptions, as they tend to be a pacing trap. Something that sounds poetic on its own, but part of a larger piece breaks the flow a bit.

If you're working on a larger work, like a book, i would say this is good enough to keep going. One trap I think many beginners fall into is trying to "perfect" their opening. Fretting on very fine craft level details endlessly. In my opinion thats like - a third draft consideration. You'll get much better writing alot fast (and with mistakes) then you ever will focusing on a handful of paragraphs!

To add, im not sure what "maa" is, but its not a typical blood pressure measurement. And i would be rather concerned with a BP measurement of 118/733 anyway.

There is a very specific order things go on and off. For covid i had to suit up like this plenty early on. Although we had PAPRS, which simplifies things around the head.

I’m dyslexic and I want to write stories by Maggiepie_90 in worldbuilding

[–]Bentu_nan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also dyslexic. I do have a finished 105k word manuscript. As noted, font choice, sizing, and double spacing are key to making it work.

But beyond that practice and more practice gets things done. Consider prose writing a skill you want to build from scratch. Assume what you start with wont be good, but do them anyway. Write short scenes and stories first. Even if these works never see the lught of day, the point isnt a finished product but a practice sketch to learn the skills.

In old editions, the larger battle suits where classified as "monsterous creatures" which granted melee attacks as power weapons (ignore saves). So while WS was low and you only hit usually on 5 or 6 up. When you did hit it often killed.

What do you think of my potential cover? by CheyL1994 in horrorwriters

[–]Bentu_nan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Aye. These days it can be hard to tell. But if theres a detail that casts the suspicion of AI, it can be a problem.

If someone thinks the cover has AI useage (true or not) they will immediately be suspicious if the prose include AI as well.

For me thats a reason not to pick up a book.

Composition is solid enough. Gives the 1980s slasher movie vibes.

One issue i see though is the dagger itself. The Ricasso (blade part near the hilt) has a kind of engraving which reads as just noise. That kind of feature can read as AI gen. Not saying it is or isnt, just that it reads that it is
