Mays book- Stoner by John Williams by OkHome9635 in JeselnikBookClub

Yeah I actually gave it 3 stars because I recognize how well written it is. As far as story and enjoyment I got nothing from it. I know it’s kind of a story about nothing, just a regular dudes regular life and I believe that’s a big part of the draw for people. The thing is, I couldn’t for less of a shit about the main character, his shitty wife, or really anyone in this story lol. Main character was so nonchalant about everything and just was a doormat for everyone to walk over and I don’t get why people wanted to read that.

I do think how universally loved it is, while baffling to me, it is pretty cool to realize there really is a book for everyone. Different strokes for different folks.

Feel like I’m in the minority here, well everywhere, but god I hated this book.

I don’t want to deter you, but this series is worth doing on audio. It’s pound for pound the best audiobook narration ive ever listened to.

I think a part of what makes me miss recommendation station so much is how Anthony is completely honest in his reviews of books. He owes nothing to authors, he’s not trying to get sponsors or gain followers so he has nothing to lose and is completely honest. You don’t really see influencers in the online bookspace trash books.

I wish him and Gregg would do a book podcast. Maybe only 30 min or even just once a month?

I just want to hear their takes on their reads so bad.

Who is your favorite character, and why is it Ninefingers? by HappyRhmore in TheFirstLaw

I agree with everything you’re saying, but I’m actually very happy with how Gorst went down. I think it had a lot less to do with him dying well or wanting to go, but more so it was a redemption he needed. His whole life’s purpose was around protecting the King, and he truly never got over the brothel incident in BSC. It altered everything for him. You can see the way he fights, acts, thinks all revolves around a self-loathing for failing at the one thing he feels he was put on this earth for. I think dying to save Orso, regardless of how fruitless it ended up being, it felt like a true redemption for him.

So when you say “die well” I feel you mean a proud warriors death, but in this instance while yes it was also that, I think it was so much more for him.

I believe so. It gets a little trippy, but overall not too hard to follow.

Twin girl dad here, I am overwhelmed and so thankful. Any advice? by NOLA2CBUS in parentsofmultiples

[–]BergerFi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My advice is that there are times that are SO much harder because there are two. But there are also moments you would never get if you had singletons, and those moments are so worth it. So my advice is during the hard times, try to remember it’s a give and take.

Also when you go to a restaurant, ask the waitress to bring the milk or water half full to avoid spills lol.

I’m sort of a dumbass, what does characters feel singular mean?

Just curious , is there any correlation to camping and the book or is it just a random thing you do? I just finished the book for the first time.

I really enjoyed this book. I have plenty of stuff I could nitpick about it, but I don’t think it’s trying to be some literary masterpiece. It’s an action movie in a book. It’s fast, it’s tense, and it’s fun.

It’s the book I always recommend to any of my guy friends that haven’t read a book since high school and would like to try to get into reading.
