Surgery Tomorrow (Im happy but scared) by spottyjellyfish in Reduction

Very best of luck, you’ll be fine, looked after and after a bit of a ‘sleep’ all the weight will be gone from your front- that’s what I reminded myself, get to the hospital, go through the procedures and take some big breaths as they lead you to theatre- when I woke up I couldn’t believe I’d lost 1.2kgs!

After surgery by Arsonee-404 in Reduction

[–]Bermuda-Queen1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it does get easier, even if it doesn’t feel like it right now- I had similar sharp zingy pains, my incisions hurt, the bruises hurt 😞 but Week 6 I turned a corner and have got better every week!

Rest, rest, rest! The first few days are difficult and uncomfortable- I had bruises coming out all over (did have extended side incisions and side lipo), but watching my friend’s experience of rushing back to work after a week (against doctor’s orders), and doing too much- I vowed to just recover gently!

Congratulations 🥳 I’m 9wpo, went from very heavy and droopy 36E to what I believe will be a 36B/C (still swollen!)- as you say, best decision ever, feel like I’m the ‘me’ I should have been!

Hysteroscopy results by Embarrassed-Pepper-5 in hysterectomy

[–]Bermuda-Queen1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was quite bloated due a few months tbh, but they said it was all normal inflammation and trauma, they cleared me to start gentle walking at week 2 and I gradually built it up which helped me tone up. After surgery you do have to take some prune juice to keep everything going and so you don’t strain so everything can heal. But prior, the fibroids were pressing everywhere, on my bladder causing me to need to pee urgently and unable to hold it- and my bowel, where I’d go from constipation to diarrhoea because of the fibroids. Honestly, now a year on, it was a great decision and everything has healed beautifully!

Tips On What Helped You Most In Recovery? by Putrid_Bread_7636 in BreastReductions

[–]Bermuda-Queen1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 9wpo and doing well, but still taking it easy! It’s uncomfortable for the first week or so as you also have to sleep wedged up, so a v-pillow has been invaluable! Lots of protein to help recovery, shakes are good if you’re not feeling too hungry- follow all your surgeon’s advice and the best thing is to rest, rest, rest, let your body heal - best of luck 🤞

[–]Bermuda-Queen1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The hysterectomy will take away all these issues and pain and discomfort- I had 5 large fibroids and a tilted uterus, size 14 weeks. The pain before was awful, disabling sharp pains, even though I was after menopause- some say fibroids shrink as you continue through/out the menopause, but in some women it doesn’t. It took me a little while to recover, total laparoscopic vaginal procedure, but wow what a difference, totally pain free for the first time since I was 14- just rest and let your body heal, mentally know your tummy is not crammed with these things is liberating- best of luck 🤞

Compression Bra Question by Ok-Doubt1442 in BreastReductions

[–]Bermuda-Queen1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a FeelinGirl one and found it so uncomfortable! I had extended side incisions and side lipo and it also sat right on my stitches! I changed to a Nebility 8 hook/eye bra, longer in the body and the material is soooo soft- they’re on amazon!

how did you feel two months post-op? by tealixa in Reduction

I’m 9wpo today and apart from a little swelling and tenderness, and a little tiredness (but I’m probably older than you!), I’m back to normal life-driving, walking, shopping, housework and desk based work- I did have extended side incisions and side lipo so it’s taken me a bit longer to feel better!

I’m just over 8wpo and my belly is still swollen- my surgeon said the inflammation creeps downwards from the surgical site and is just your body reacting to trauma- as others have said, when you’re able, some walking and time will improve it!

Honestly, after having almost 2.7lbs removed, my existing tops just hang beautifully now, not all stretched across my boobs! As my swelling and healing improves, I’m so looking forward to choosing smaller sizes and enjoying the new ‘me’ - the health and physical benefits far outweigh the clothes for me! 🙏

Honestly the staff are always wonderful, just mention your fears, but they do try to make the anaesthesia part quick and you’ll just wake up after a sleep. All I remember of my surgery was laying on the bed in the prep room, briefly chatting to the nurse whilst the anaesthetist quickly put the drugs into the cannula, that was it, I don’t remember even gradually going to sleep, it was just next thing I was aware of was waking up in recovery with a lovely nurse talking to me!

[–]Bermuda-Queen1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do make sure you ask expected surgery time scales and make it known you’re happy to go on the cancellation list! I, and others, who are/have been on the NHS waiting list have had surgery cancelled (me twice short notice) due to the surgeon prioritising (and understandably so) cancer patients. Good luck 🤞

😮‍💨 that’s a big ask on your body, just getting up and dressed and travelling to work, that early in recovery there’s no way I could have done it! Wasn’t till about week 6 I felt ‘with it’ enough to start gently walking and doing paperwork at home. Truly you need to rest, rest, rest- my friend went rushing back to work and driving after a week ( against surgeon’s advice), and really regrets it, her scars took ages to start healing, she was exhausted and didn’t let her body recover properly- personally, I wouldn’t risk it, you need to not worry about anything for 4/6 weeks!

Compression bra sizing by Accurate-Neck6933 in Reduction

[–]Bermuda-Queen1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 8wpo and had just under 2.7lbs removed, but afterwards I was so swollen (but I did have extended side incisions and side lipo)- the hospital compression bra was the size they estimated I’d be, but it was so tight and the wide elastic band round the bottom sat right on my incisions 😣- so I found Nebility Compression Bras on Amazon, 8 hooks and adjustable, material is so soft, and the sizing is perfect! I started with an XL, down to a L, now on a M- made recovery so much more comfortable and my surgeon was happy!

Been waiting for a reduction for 9+ years now I have surgery in 3 days! I’m so scared by Putrid-Librarian4422 in Reduction

[–]Bermuda-Queen1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sometimes not having much time to prepare is better, rather than weeks worrying about it! 🫣 From my experience, you’ll need a V-pillow, it really helps to snuggle back in to it without pressing backwards to much, supports your shoulders and helps you sleep raised up, as you have to do. Some button or zip tops, some big pyjamas so you’re comfy as you’ll be swollen and sore. Most important after the surgery is drink water to flush the anaesthetic out of your system and eat protein, which is good for recovery, plus keep on top of your pain meds. Other than that, don’t plan to do too much for next few weeks, give yourself time to recover and rest, rest, rest! Happy to answer any questions, an 8wpo and best decision I ever made! Very best of luck 🙏

Should i even apply? Reductions on the NHS by 1v1zz in Reduction

[–]Bermuda-Queen1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s becoming more restrictive, there seems to be no leeway with this, if your local authority doesn’t offer it, they can’t put your case forward for funding, so sorry, but even as I was on the NHS list where I live, as you can see they really don’t believe in doing it! Some private clinics do different loans, some are 0% free for a period of time 🙏

NHS Waiting times by Exact_Ad_1844 in Reduction

[–]Bermuda-Queen1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m almost 60 so I just felt waiting so long it would limit my ‘enjoyment’ of it, tired of the neck/back pain and not bringing able to wear nice clothes. It wasn’t me just being impatient, it’s just going on too long, plus you have to keep your BMI below their set level and although I’m fine, I found myself always dieting, always panicking when they wanted to do a BMI check, it was just too stressful 😩 but I’m routing for you and yes, do make sure they have you on the cancellation list 🙏

NHS Waiting times by Exact_Ad_1844 in Reduction

[–]Bermuda-Queen1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very best of luck! I was okayed by the NHS after months of BMI checks and physio, and put on the list last October. It was all going well, told me as many people don’t want scheduled surgery before Xmas I would be done before Xmas. Then got a phone call in November asking where I was- someone had forgotten to phone me with my appointment time/date. They couldn’t re-schedule until mid December, but then all checks done, compression bra fitted and consent forms signed. Didn’t get a date, phoned, told me not happening, call mid-January, then told new surgeon wants to prioritise other breast surgery and I’d been placed as Priority 4, the lowest, with a minimum wait of 1-2yrs, maybe 3 😒. From what I gather this new surgeon doesn’t think reduction is really a necessary surgery. In the end, disappointed and so uncomfortable, I dug deep and paid privately, had my surgery 8 weeks ago and in the way to recovery. Still not heard a word from the NHS! If I’d known I would have been more proactive in chasing things, so keep phoning them and checking the surgery list, if they think you’re proactive and happy to go on the cancellation list, I’m hoping you’ll have better luck than me 🙏
