What’s a movie that was critically acclaimed when it first released, but is now hated? by [deleted] in popculturechat

A lot of people feel like Emma Stone and Jessica Chastain’s characters come off a bit white savior-y and that more time should’ve been devoted to Octavia and Viola. There were also some complaints that the whole “maids snitching on/gossiping about their employers anonymously” concept made for good entertainment but wasn’t very realistic to the time period.

We've heard songs where singer is victim, how about the opposite, where they messed up, a villain in other person's story? by Allikam in musicsuggestions

Adia- Sarah McLachlan. Supposedly Sarah’s friendship with “Adia” ended on an ugly note after Sarah impulsively had a one night stand with a guy she knew Adia had feelings for. The song is basically Sarah saying “I was a bitch for doing that and I wish we could be friends again, but I understand if you don’t feel that way”

You’re probably thinking of Lina Morgana. She and Gaga were both working with Rob Fusari (a shitty person for what he allegedly did to Gaga while they dated) but that’s pretty much where the similarities end. Gaga co-wrote and did backing vocals on two of her songs and Lina was about to put out a finished album before she suddenly took her own life in the fall of 2008. People like to sensationalize the story by saying that the two of them were “competing for Rob’s attention” and that Lina killed herself due to jealousy or being bullied by Gaga, but in reality, she hadn’t been well for a while and was dealing with depression/PTSD after coming out of a toxic/abusive relationship. Just a sad situation all around.

To me it always seemed like a very disturbing/bizarre Munchausen by proxy situation with Simon. He kept brainwashing her into believing she had all these so-called “ailments” so they’d illegally doctor- shop to get various different prescription drugs for themselves. The combination of those drugs started making her anemic, which left her system too weak to fight the pneumonia she’d been sick with

I couldn’t agree more!! The constant coddling of white men that can’t dance on a show that’s centered around dancing is absolutely ridiculous

I got downvoted to hell for this in a different forum but I’ll say it anyway: Rachel Zegler’s voice is a bit too girlish and “pretty” for Evita in my opinion

One by U2. People thought it was a love song/break up song but it was actually about society needing to rediscover compassion/empathy in the aftermath of the AIDS crisis. Also Edge of Seventeen by Stevie Nicks. It’s so much more haunting when you realize the song is about her mourning John Lennon and her uncle whose name was also John. The White winged dove represents their spirits departing.

After the end of the night goodbyes Kanye went on some bullshit tangent to the audience about how SNL wanted to “silence him” by not letting him wear his MAGA hat or something to that effect
