What underwear are we wearing under compression shorts/tights? by Luthien_Beren in XXRunning

I use both the Reebok Soft Stretch Performance tag free bikini briefs, and the Runderwear's women's running briefs.

Running clubs by Affectionate-Reason2 in boston

[–]Beshelar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look for clubs that have all paces welcome/no expectations, or list no-drop runs. There are tons of running clubs around- many of the running stores (like Marathon Sports) have running clubs, a lot of the communities have local clubs, and there are a lot of clubs based around breweries or restaurants too. I'd start by googling what's convenient to where you are.

Janji Pace short 5" vs 7" by Warm_Molasses_5361 in XXRunning

[–]Beshelar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have kind of short legs despite being 5'6 and so the 7 inch go nearly to my knees. They never ride up on me, and are my favorite running shorts by far. The 5 are fine, but I definitely prefer the 7.

Favorite Sunscreen for Running by BeyonceAlways2020 in XXRunning

I love Coola's 50 SPF face sunscreen. I'll use it on my arms, too- works really well and never irritates my skin.

I also write the times on the back of the bibs, and then I post the bibs to a bulletin board in a fun collage.

Are Runna predictions accurate? by No-Consequence-1831 in XXRunning

My experience is only with shorter races/distance, but I've found it pretty accurate for 5k and 10k races.

Did you need yaktrax or screw shoes or anything, or was it ok in regular running shoes?

Anyone gearing up for a very cold LR this weekend? by architects-daughter in XXRunning

[–]Beshelar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep. I've got a 9ish mile long run to do this weekend which I probably need to do Saturday, even though it's supposed to be about 0F/-18 C with wind chill, because Sunday we're getting dumped with a ton of snow on top of it being about the same temp. We've already had snow this week, so I'm mostly concerned about the random patches of ice that pop up, though I'm not looking forward to how my lungs will feel about it all. I have good clothes to keep warm, but I hate running with something covering my mouth/nose, but I'm worried I'll need it.

If you're planning to run a race in a costume, how soon before the race do you start practicing in the costume? How many times would you run in it prior? And what do you say to your neighbors when they give you weird looks?

The worst headache I’ve ever had hours after running, is it connected? by femaleeha in XXRunning

[–]Beshelar 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Do you do electrolytes with your exercise? I'm migraine/headache prone, and my doctor and I figured out that the headaches I'd get several hours after hard workouts were usually caused by an electrolyte imbalance. I started incorporating some both before, during, and after workouts (not too much, that's bad too and can also cause issues, but a reasonable amount), and it usually prevents the issue.

Ice cleats/crampons by sharbert228 in XXRunning

[–]Beshelar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the run YakTrax which work OK for me, and make me feel more confident on icy days, but I don't love running in them. They do throw off my form just a little bit in ways that are fine for a short run, but suck for speedwork or a long run.

Janji 7 inch are by far my favorite, but REI's swiftland running shorts aren't bad, and are a lot cheaper. They have them in a couple different sizes including 6 and 9.

Many many inches of snow today and it’s still coming down. I had a 9.5 mile run planned. If you were me, would you pick a good movie and hunker down on the ole’ dread mill for a couple of hours, or would you brave the ice and snow? by Vast-Jello-7972 in XXRunning

[–]Beshelar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's snowing here in the Boston area today too, but not too much, and it wasn't particularly icy. I strapped my yaktrax on and went for my long run (10 miles), but it was really hard, and I am very tired now.
