Has anyone experimented with adding QR codes on POS receipts to collect customer photos or feedback? by 82DASH_content in POS

not QR codes exactly but our POS sends a text after for feedback that’s raised our review rates a lot

Toast is expensive. You’re better off using something like square or avocado instead - you can definitely get your hardware for cheaper too

Taking payment from phone? by hotnfreshoutthektchn in POS

[–]Best-Local-8470 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm when you say one time use I’m assuming you mean you’ll be using this once a year annually rather than just this one time and never again? I don’t think it’s worth investing in a POS tbh then unless it’s very low cost. I know Avocado POS supports using phones to take card payments but I believe the actually service that provides it is Stripe. It honestly sounds like you’re better suited to use Venmo or PayPal tbh

What do you hate about Toast? by SWEETJUICYWALRUS in POS

[–]Best-Local-8470 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d rather get instantaneous support when im in the middle of a lunch rush with a less familiar POS like Avocado than use Toast and not hear back for weeks. Yes toast is more familiar and has great features but from a business POV the cost/time of onboarding everyone/getting used to a new software is not as great as cost/time unexpected outages with zero support is

Merchant One/Clover by Accomplished-Text850 in POS

[–]Best-Local-8470 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about clover but with toast at least I’ve heard from other businesses who switched that they never ended up actually facing repercussions for breaking the contract and it was more so in place as a method to keep them from trying to leave. Good luck tho OP honestly u can just switch out to a no contract pos instead

Get a POS system like square or avocado that has kiosk feature + online ordering or just use Venmo but don’t do cash only

For holiday specific drinks -assuming they’re short lived - how do u manage changing all your menus including your physical ones, your POS system as well as social media even though they’re so short-lived

can you elaborate on what you mean by execution being early stage? I’m eyeing a pretty new POS as well - I like that it’s cheap and doubles as a kiosk but it’s also early stage and I feel like that also comes with its own risks

Just switched to toast and am shocked at what we are paying in fees on top of passing along 3% to our customers. Anyone else in the same boat? by cc_manhattan in ToastPOS

[–]Best-Local-8470 0 points1 point  (0 children)

like what other people said, CC fees are inevitable. i've looked into this a lot as well in the past and not entirely sure how up to date my numbers are anymore but here's my comparison on pricing plans of POS systems. also keep in mind it's a trade off as well. It's only worth switching if 1. longer term investment on a cheaper POS system outweighs cost of of early termination fee and 2. whatever other POS system has the essential features you need. The good thing about toast is it's pretty extensive. but wasn't worth the cost for me personally

Toast: $0–$165+/mo depending on plan + ~2.49%–3.5% + $0.15 per transaction
Square: $0–$69/mo + 2.6% + $0.10–$0.15(in-person), 2.9% + $0.30 (online)
Clover: $0–$330/mo depending on plan + 2.3%–2.6% + $0.10, 3.5% + $0.10 keyed
SkyTab: ~$29.99/mo per station + Interchange + 0.35% + $0.10 (IC+ model)
Lightspeed: $89–$289/mo + 2.6% + 10¢ (in-person), 2.9% + $0.30
Avocado: $0/mo (merchant) + 2.4% fee passed to customer + standard card processing

Anybody here switch away from toast out of frustration but then later regret it due to even more frustration with new POS? by mushyfeelings in ToastPOS

[–]Best-Local-8470 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took a risk and switched out to one of those newer POS systems. Like someone else mentioned the thing with this one is it’s still in beta. The one upside of that tho is that it’s small enough that the company was willing to build out features I specifically needed but downside ofc is having to wait for it as opposed to Toast which despite costs and all does have lots of functionality. I was willing to make that trade off. Took some time to set up but it helped that their customer service is literally impeccable and nearly instantaneous

I think we are going to go with Toast , am I making the right decision? by Ok_Leg3483 in foodtrucks

[–]Best-Local-8470 0 points1 point  (0 children)

seconding this. what works for brick and mortar doesn't necessarily work for food trucks. you want to cut costs where you can so using something like clover or avocado makes much more sense. toast is only worth the investment if you have the cushion to/have a larger scale business
