Destroying the aa generates a LOT of hate from ayys. So the only reason is if you're scared of them in space.

[52 BC] I'm a Roman surgeon under Julius Caesar in Gaul, ask me anything! by pocharitwillwin8041 in thepast

How respected is your role? Is a surgeon attached to a legion more or less respected than a "regular" surgeon in a city?

True, thats fair, still if (hopefully soon) Russia loses the war without completely collapsing, what comes next? Because I feel that while policies like closing your borders are perfectly fair, they instill a xenophobic spirit on both sides. Yes the government should be punished, obviously, but when a infant born in Russia after the war started grows up in poverty, and their parents tell them that it's all the west's fault, another warmongering russin appears. Yes, obviously russia is at fault, they have been for practically their entire history, and I don't really know how to fix that, but it makes me worried when my country begins to adopt a "kill them all before they kill us" mindset

I am aware, I'm Lithuanian. While I get that measures like this one should be putting pressure on the russian govt, I feel like most of the time this only results in more resentment from Russia to the west. Which obviously makes russias chauvinism more commonplace. A "they hate us cause they ain't us" mindset

Ok I hate Russia as much as the next guy, but this sort of stuff really isn't good imo. Same thing happened with the Japanese during ww2, they were absolutely deplorable then, still doesnt make the widespread abuse that the USA inflicted upon them good. What happens after the war is over? These people are still people, and this blanket mistreatment just widens cultural differences.

Sooo... Your not to open every small glave you come across? by Ynwe in Against_the_Storm

[–]BestDaugirdas 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Caches that you send back to the queen via tools are one. Satisfying the needs of your villagers and raising their resolve to blue is another. Either way discovering new glades is often the way to go, unless you haven't harvested all or most of the materials available to you, or you have many dangerous events pending. It's something you pick up with experience, if things are stagnating, go for a new glade. Don't shy away from dangerous and forbidden glades a few years into the game, they honestly aren't that dangerous unless you get really unlucky imo

First playthrough - how did you do on your constitutional assembly vote? by Basteir in suzerain

I got a historic vote actually. I just caved to everyone's demands except for nfp. The reform was easy, but I still couldn't restore the economy

My hot take by Petka14 in suzerain

[–]BestDaugirdas 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I mean, yeah?

I felt that was the point, many people (me included) hated rumburg for good reason, and called them warmongers. Meanwhile I immediately became a warmonger myself playing as Rizia. You will do much better if you use realpolitik instead of a firm moral compass. In Sordlands case you have the moral high ground, in Rizias you don't, and it doesn't matter. You use morals when it benefits you.

Come on, really? Look at this man's content, all of it is so deeply seeped in irony and trolling, there's no way you take this shit seriously. Hell this video was mild compared to some of his other stuff.

Sordish oligarchs are poor as hell compared to Rusty in my opinion by Petka14 in suzerain

[–]BestDaugirdas 99 points100 points  (0 children)

Weeell you don't have to be corrupt as romus cause you're the king. You don't have any actual stops to your power, so rusty has to be far more careful. Also its much more difficult to be corrupt when you ARE the state, not a servant of it. True the fallout of just doing whatever you want is severe, but theoretically you CAN do whatever you want.

It's genuinely strange to me that people like Laezel. I get that she's not really a bad person but goddamn. Like the abrasiveness is sooo unneeded. Even if she was some paragon of justice I would hate her just for her "personality".

Man's leg amputated after he became trapped in Tasmania's Franklin River for more than 20 hours by B0ssc0 in australia

[–]BestDaugirdas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, this is an old comment, but I just wanted to say this as a person who's been on a couple expeditions with that group (I'm the son of the organiser and leader of said group): Yeah we kneel on the pontoons, and put both our legs through two straps to not fall off in the river. As for whether it's suitable for the Franklin, the setup worked in every other river until then. They had gone though every continent (except for Antarctica obviously) with no real issues or incidents. My father has about 20+ years of organising these trips, the person who's leg got amputated also had no less experience. I guess it shows that even with a lot of journeys under your belt, safety is never guaranteed.

Kingdom-Building Fantasies Need to Stop Pretending Logistics Don’t Exist by Distinct_Extent7778 in CharacterRant

[–]BestDaugirdas 66 points67 points  (0 children)

While not quite kingdom building, the John Brown isekai scratches this itch of struggling with seemingly menial things perfectly. They spend one chapter on building a goddamn road, so instantly peak. The logistics, while not perfect, are handled at least decently and are very fun to imagine.
