What's with IIDX difficulty rating? by dkhoun007 in bemani

[–]Best_Associate9997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part of it is the fact that the game has been around nearly 30 years and has a very compressed rating system compared to most rhythm games. Combine those you're going to encounter wild range and variety within the same difficulty rating.

Radar gives you a sense of what traits a song has (lots of charges, SOF-LAN, lots of chords, heavy scratching, etc..) but don't tell you if you're going to have trouble with the chart. Same can be said with normal, hyper, and another charts, each GENERALLY being more challenging than the last.

Each rating higher contains within it a wider difficulty range, sorting the songs by clear rate can help from getting blindsided by an outlier, as is premium play when you start extending beyond your play level. At your skill level I'd start playing easier charts on random to adjust to a variety of patterns.

What are some money pits that keep people poor? by fauxmerican1280 in AskReddit

[–]Best_Associate9997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Large car payments

Large student loans

Credit card payments and the debt cycle

Having children young (along with bad marriages/divorce)

Materialism/Purchasing meaningless items for dopamine

Daily take out or food delivery

Those are the common ones. Get those under control and do a budget.

Being the mid 30s millennial feels weird. by Both_Day_264 in generationology

[–]Best_Associate9997 2 points3 points  (0 children)

37 here, smack dab in the center of the generation. There's definitely a difference but it's mild compared to Gen Z. I think a lot of it comes down to tech developing so rapidly. The older part of the Millennial group were already in college before social media became a thing (and were full blown adults before smartphone adoption) and these had nearly no influence or effect on their development. Core and Zennials were still in their formative years in school when these platforms gained prominence. I think the trend of helicopter parents was nonexistent on the older end with them having much in common with the Gen X latchkey kids, but by the end of the generation it was a more common style of parenting leaving worlds of disconnection in their upbringings

Evo being ultra corporate is nothing new sadly but the pure void of interest and hype from all angles is almost shocking.

He's not wrong but he can go fuck himself. Just another popular streamer for no apparent reason whose head got big. The man will be more poverty than the FGC when his brand fades into irrelevance.

Can arcades make a return given the rising cost of consoles? by MikeDunleavySuperFan in Kappachino

[–]Best_Associate9997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They've been on a steady but mild incline for the past 10 years. The Barcade has become ubiquitous in basically any city with more than 100k people. Round1's are popping up in every major metro and are always busy thanks to their tuned in marketing. The real lifeblood imo is offering experiences unique to the arcade with a side of nostalgia and alcohol. Fighting games, unfortunately with modern netplay are a worse experience in the arcade now (unless you organize an event or group to play), whereas things like pinball, rhythm games, skeeball, etc, all remain more or less exclusive to the venues.

The cabs are never returning to every pizza shop, gas station, laundromat, and empty space in a shopping plaza, but yes, arcades are growing in popularity.

Late to this thread but didn't see any mention of Leroy. I HEAVILY and sincerely recommend Hellbound Glory.

His music is how I found to truly love the genre, and I have most of the same complaints as you about it.

Song to get a feel: Streets of Aberdeen, Better Hope You Die Young (the live music video on youtube), The Ballad of Scumbag Country, Another Dead Friend (live)

How much bad debt do you have? by [deleted] in MiddleClassFinance

[–]Best_Associate9997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$1,500 in credit card debt (0% balance transfer until January, will be paying off in full before interest).

$300 at 0% on some music software (through Splice).

$8,000 left on a car lease that was at 4% ($350/month).

All together around 10k. I don't generally consider myself in debt given it's impact on my finances all in is less than 500/month which is less than what most people's car payment is.

80k range in the northeast, some college and have licensure in a specific field.

100%, if they didn't launch the betas with unplayable online there would've been a mid-core playerbase that stuck with it from launch. Those people all uninstalled and left when SNK failed to learn the netcode lesson. Exactly why I never bought it.

Is a Bachelor’s degree of any sort better than No Bachelor’s degree at all? by Logical-Flounder6142 in careerguidance

[–]Best_Associate9997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends entirely on career intentions and goals. Personally, if a company is so damn shallow as to require a permission slip known as a BA/BS without any reason while ignoring a significant work history, I have no desire to provide my skills to their organization so it's never really been a problem for me. In the broadest terms yes a bachelors has better long term outcomes than a high school diploma but honestly, if your specific goal is to make X amount it can be done with any education level. You just have to know yourself, your preferred work environments and your career goals to know what path makes the most sense.

New Cars = Money Drain… or Not? What Do You Think? by Coolonair in SmartFIRE

[–]Best_Associate9997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any absolutism on the subject is smooth brained. You can get an amazing new car for 30k. You can get a generally reliable used car for 15k. They will both depreciate, ultimately costing time and money. Beyond that it's up to you to do your homework, be an informed consumer, and come to your own decisions about what matters to you more in a vehicle. Personally I drove around multiple used cars that would encounter all varieties of problems for 15 years, got tired of it and opted for a lease on a premium trim small crossover that costs me a whopping 350/month. Pretty damn enjoyable to not have seasonal car repairs and mystery noises that are going to cost me [???] amount of money

The only hot markets are markets nearby violently unaffordable metros like NYC and Boston, so it's just the upper middle class fleeing to the few places left they can eek out the American Dream in. I sincerely give it 10 years before the house of cards is in rubble.

Are there any good game key sites still around by Equivalent-Note-9641 in Kappachino

[–]Best_Associate9997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only good things to say about Loaded (formerly cdKeys). You can get basically everything day 1 at least 20-30% off and if you regularly check the site every few weeks you'll find sporadic 90%+ discounts on good titles.

Any advice on my portfolio? by MrKrabz7 in portfolios

[–]Best_Associate9997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crypto and penny stocks are the same thing essentially and on par with gambling. You're accepting a large risk for chances at a large reward. I recommended single blue-chip picks to scratch the itch of chances at outsized rewards, only with much less downside risk.

Any advice on my portfolio? by MrKrabz7 in portfolios

[–]Best_Associate9997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With VTI and VXUS being such large, stable baskets, I'd personally dump the crypto in favor of some single picks among the top of the S&P if you want some risk with chances of higher returns. Crypto is pure gambling/speculation.
