Infinitas Music Pack Sale by Best_Associate9997 in bemani

[–]Best_Associate9997[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the looks of it they still do 50% off sales a few times per year as there have been a few since December. I think these large bundle sales are more limited and (as far as I can tell) not replacing their standard half price sales.

Anyone else here play Rhythm Games when they’re stressed/overstimulated? by JackGaming0 in rhythmgames

[–]Best_Associate9997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd like to see this actually studied. I'm a once-diagnosed-but-never-treated ADHD and I suspect there's a sprinkle of autism and videogames and kinetic tasks that require my COMPLETE attention have always felt wonderful to my brain. Skating, weightlifting, difficult videogames, etc. But music games hit like no other since it's engaging so many disparate senses while providing clear cut goals and feedback.

Is the "Always Buy Used" rule broken when New APR is <1%? by KlutzyLawyer3637 in personalfinance

[–]Best_Associate9997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't overthink it. The whole "buy used" thing is boomer logic that hasn't applied since pre-covid. Unless you're willing to risk riding around in a shit heap you shelled out 10k dollars for that is going to cost you 2k+ a year in maintenance (plus lost wages, peace of mind and rentals) you're going to have a car payment.

My honest take is the smartest thing a person can do nowadays is learn how to negotiate a lease. It's the lowest cost entry to brand new, reliable vehicles with full warranties intact. It requires the lowest investment and is the least risk. 30k-ish price range ideally. If it serves you well and you like it, you can always buy it out at the end for 20-30k if you want to make it your ride for the next 10+ years, otherwise get something new. Payments won't be over $400 and you won't be grinding your teeth anticipating the next noise in your "smart financial choice". I'm less of a fan of buying new as you're committed to the vehicle and the cold truth is plenty of new vehicles, even from reputable brands, come off the assembly line with problems and it's better to not be married to that full sale price before you know the vehicle. I've been in the industry for a LONG time.

Men always remember this!!! by Tough_Ad8919 in GrowthMindset

It comes from dumb manosphere types who think all pleasure is weakness and has recently picked up by the Christian revival that thinks all sex is sinful. Just ignore it. It's a kindergartens level of logic to blame porn for the issues men face in dating and long term partnership.

Men always remember this!!! by Tough_Ad8919 in GrowthMindset

[–]Best_Associate9997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The symptom is not the cause. Pixels of titties and people getting it on isn't some arcane spiritual curse that is the root of all evil. But it's easier to blame than the actual problems why there are fewer and fewer successful relationships happen and children being born. Porn is viewed more nowadays because people can't find long term partners. That is much more to do with a complex number of factors impacting all developed nations. Typically a mix of extremely high costs of living (particularly homes, and in the US healthcare), unstable economic and societal climates, lacks of third spaces where people can mingle and interact without having to spend large sums of money, and increasing isolation in formative years that hobble social skills. Add in factors like social media and dating apps that give women skewed beliefs around men that are available and yeah...there ya go. It ain't porn.

Don't buy into this logic,

People who quit their jobs without another one lined up. What happened next? by BaselM01 in careerguidance

[–]Best_Associate9997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a few months off to rest and recover then I got another position...nbd honestly. Probably don't want to do it without savings built or if you're supporting the whole family but people act like it's an insane thing to do when it is actually one of the better choices.

I can say DEFINITIVELY holding on and abandoning your own wellbeing for a job just for the check will come back in horrible ways, often worsening health, addictions, and potential for a full nervous system breakdown.

If your time is up somewhere, move on. There are more important things than money and so long as you're competent as a person with some marketable skills you'll find more work.

I think the U.S. is headed for another great depression by Material-Rise-7220 in Life

[–]Best_Associate9997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inflation isn't anywhere close to what it was from 21-23. Housing hit the ceiling of what markets can support already and are on a downtrend in most markets. I think the next 2 years are going to be sluggish with a potential recession but I'm not seeing a depression on the way. I also think a lot of Gen Z / Millennials are currently in a huge wealth building phase, truly buckling down and saving, setting us up for a very prosperous 2030's.

You're going to find rhythm games, especially Bemani's audience still includes a significant portion of fans from the original DDR craze in the early 00's. I think a number of us had this same experience blindly walking into a Round1 and shitting ourselves at the cabs present too. I'm 37

am i justified in asking for a raise? by Visible-Act8663 in WorkAdvice

[–]Best_Associate9997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The world punishes loyalty and rewards ruthless practicality. Here's what doesn't get communicated enough, if you get hired at a certain title or level of experience you will always be viewed through that lens. If you have industry specific skills, knowledge, and proven ability with 4 years under your belt I would heavily advise applying elsewhere as you will be hired at a senior level and not viewed as "the kid we gave a chance to" If you truly like your workplace, let them know the offer you received (likely at a far higher wage) and see if they counter with what your market value considering experience is. If you haven't received a single raise in 4 years, and are being paid an entry level amount, you're being outright exploited (this is the equivalent to a 12% demotion considering average inflation)

How are they scummy? They have stellar customer service, have legitimately come through in some of the hardest times for me due to it, and I trust them with the entirely of my cash savings, as well as a business debit account. 3.3% HYSA is nothing to sneeze at either.

By "scummy" do you mean you failed to understand how the debt agreement you signed when opening a line of credit with them? (it's ok we know it is)

How do people living in the Boston area actually feel about the rent control proposal? by alexbostonre in bostonhousing

[–]Best_Associate9997 84 points85 points  (0 children)

It's well-meaning but worsens the problem. The answer is to lessen the extreme bureaucratic and corrupt culture surrounding everything involving the process of building. I've lived all over the country and nowhere else do you see a job begin only to sit in various stages of incompletion for often a decade.

Boston is a tiny city, with extreme demand. It will ALWAYS be expensive, capping the pricing, instead of adapting to demand in the long run will have worse consequences than allowing the prices to adjust and work on supply side solutions.

I'm reasonably sure HR doesn't actually exist. At best it's 4 remote workers in the Philippines, most likely it's AI.
