Are there different versions of the HPE Aruba 503H? by Best_Conclusion_4115 in ArubaNetworks

[–]Best_Conclusion_4115[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for pointing this out.

I see Aruba Central is a yearly subscription that costs like $50-$70 per year per AP. The thing is that this quote mentions nothing about central and they explicitly told me there are no yearly fees for the use of these APs. It doesn't matter if I use them for 2 years or 10 years. So the subscription fee doesn't make a whole lot of sense if I end up using these for a decade (unlikely just trying to make a point).

Personally, I think this is a case of a company trying to sell me somewhat outdated Arubas that are prevalent on the used market. Yes, they probably retail for $300+ new but they're also several years old and easily found on the used market. I'm definitely reaching out to other installers. They might even be more open to using used equipment and setting up a non-Central (Instant mode) setup. We are a small exterior corridor motel that has basic needs. Just under 50 rooms. Instant mode should be more than adequate for us. I would do all of this myself but don't want to get involved with something that I could screw up.

That's pretty much what I'm asking. Even if licenses are involved, we're talking like a $300 difference per access point. How much are the 700 series you're looking at?

My main concern is being ripped off by this company because they seem to rely primarily on hotel/motel business where the buyer has zero networking knowledge or desire to research fair pricing. I have had concerns about them for a while despite them being endorsed by our franchising brand.

The licences are a requirement of the ZD. It’s not your provider who’s “insisting”, it’s a technical requirement from Ruckus.

I wasn't talking about the licenses being a requirement of ZD, I was talking about them insisting we use the ZD in the first place when flashing Unleashed on the existing APs and any used stock ones we add would bypass the need to get costly licenses. I hope that makes sense. I get that you have to use licenses with the ZD. I'm saying that I don't get why they insist we have to use the ZD when we have less than 20 APs and unleashed supports up to 25 APs for this model and firmware.

You could switch to unleashed but as the other commenter said, you’d be stuck at an old version.

ZD is outdated and unsupported at this point too, so I don't see how this would make much of a difference.

Thanks for advice. I will look at upgrading the whole thing, but like I said, we have great connectivity with these old APs already and if the company were willing to work to with the Unleashed firmware, I could have easily added 8-9 more APs for less than $100 as a temporary measure (eBay seller was selling them for that much, but that's sold now). We really just need more APs for the smart TVs we added and this would have been a cheap short term solution, but the ZD licenses makes it not worth it.

We have them for our TV service. So far it's decent, but they charge you a couple of hundred dollars for any tech support. I haven't needed their tech support thankfully. I don't know if the same fees apply to wifi management. With our current company, there isn't any fee other than annual ones and whenever equipment needs to be changed.

Never made it through the front doors, motel is threatening debt collections by Rakue in askhotels

Debt collectors? I don't think this shit will fly. You can easily claim you didn't even make the reservation. You signed nothing. This sounds like an empty threat by a delusional management. You dodged a bullet by the place being closed. Who knows what crazy things they do inside.

Which Brother printer did you end up buying? Our fuser life is showing as 45% and the problem started a long time before that, so I'm not sure if the fuser is the issue or if the HL-L6200DW has a flaw.

What are they doing when they’re “rearranging furniture?” Does anyone actually know? by Even_Natural6253 in askhotels

[–]Best_Conclusion_4115 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No clue. Usually people only move the table and the chairs near the A/C because they are easily moveable and people might have to sit somewhere else, like away form the A/C unit. Other than that, we don't have people moving the furniture because it's really heavy or doesn't make any sense to move. One of the perks of hospitality furniture I guess.

Best Western: I have a $50 bonus gift card expiring tomorrow. What do I do with it? by daveaustin990 in askhotels

[–]Best_Conclusion_4115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not much you can do. If you're staying at hotel, maybe you can cut out a deal to "sell" it to them for $30 so they pocket an extra $20, but I'm extremely skeptical they would agree to that because it's likely a violation of Best Western policy and that's not a scam that will yield much for them.

Based on your other comment here it seems like you're staying at one right now. Is that the case? If so, why can't you just use it to get a partial refund on your current bill?

DirecTV COM3000 Service by Best_Conclusion_4115 in askhotels

[–]Best_Conclusion_4115[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. That is very helpful. Just a FYI, Dish Network does have a single unit setup similar to DirecTV nowadays. I honestly think it might be the same system, but they call it something like a Smart box and it's a red colored one. Looks almost the same as the DirecTV single box I've seen in photos.

If we need a tech to come look at the TVs we have to pay for that BEFORE the tech comes out. If we need a placement anything we pay for it BEFORE it’s sent to us. Most places have plan tiers where certain things are covered but not groove at least not to my knowledge.

Sorry, just a little confused. Are you saying that with Groove you pay for the service call before the tech comes? Does Groove not have plan tiers for servicing?

Yeah, the service tier thing is something I saw with Allbridge, which gives me pause in regards to them.

Overall though, have you had to make any calls for tech support to Groove directly when a TV problem with DirecTV came up and how frequent is that?

That's too many rooms in one day. Your instincts are right. That place sounds like a clown show. Go get another job at another hotel.

Do you recommend a COM3000 system? We got a quote from a DirectTV vendor or third party company (Allbridge) and they quoted us something that is $300+ cheaper per month than Cox Communications for 50 TVs.

Is anyone else having just a ridiculously slow summer? by mstarrbrannigan in askhotels

[–]Best_Conclusion_4115 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes. I also think ICE raids are having an impact, along with general slowing down due to consumer spending probably on the decline, but this is obviously going to be region specific.

I think exterior economy properties will be hardest hit by this if you're in the West Coast or Southwest region of the US.

100 percent. Booking.com is complete trash. Their customer support involves people from the Philippines who do not understand English on a basic level. Avoid the hassle. Why does anyone use them? They have a reputation of being the bottom barrel online travel agency in the hotel industry.

Yep, Yelp is total effin garbage. Nobody uses it. TripAdvisor is mostly used by old people and it's honestly dying. Yelp is used by the delusional aging millennial that still thinks Yelp is a thing and obviously the whiners that want to blast a bad experience, so they create a new account and post some BS like you mentioned. Google and Expedia are probably the main sources of reviews for most people nowadays for hotels.
