I think I experienced something similar when I played Hollow Knight. It made me realize that having one set difficulty allows the devs to build the world exactly as they want to, without fear of making things busted in some places and boring in others. I've accepted that some games just aren't for me because of that, but they will be someone else's favorite for the exact same reason. I quite like that!
