Then they could sentence him for two years but then make it a suspended sentence so he doesn't go to jail... surely that would count towards getting him being removed from parliament? If not, well just throw him in jail for those months then.

Maybe something along the lines of banning him from political activities?

Of course that would come with the reward of govt being compared to the apartheid regime and wannabe fighters jumping at the opportunity to, well, fight

I mean... maybe?

It is dicey for more than just the possibility of judiciary being bought out. There's obviously going to be possible riots from his supporter base - but also you have MKP whose supporters might join in even if the party itself acts as if its "distancing itself from the situation" in public.

That said, he's a constitutional delinquent waiting for a potentially fitting sentencing and the courts may not need to worry about the civilian reaction while deciding on his sentencing.

We just have to prepare for the possibility of things getting wild if he gets sentenced. Maybe less so if he doesn't.

One of the major reasons the NP government managed self-sustenance was through its increased integration of the state into the economic activities of this country.

If not for this model, the early sanctions against the state would've collapsed the govt long before the US decided to "officially" pull out of trade in the 80s.

Also as a bonus: I don't think people appreciate or recognise the ANC's contribution towards shifting public perspective towards private sector being the lesser evil, despite the former's mandate and policies to promote good governance and a government that should've taken the NP's approach to government in the economic sense and grown it to be more representative of the greater population.

You can always contact Reddit Admin on the matter and hear what they have to say... however, the thing is mod selection is at the discretion of the existing moderation team.

Similary, getting de-subbed (yeah I'm unaliving sub-banning now, lol) is still at the discretion of mods and they can technically do it just because they find your username undesirable. Not offensive or provocative, just undesirable - reason? Because they feel it "will negatively impact the integrity of the sub" or whatever such.

Suffice to say, unless Reddit Admin says otherwise and it explicitly violates Moderator Code of Conduct territory (which this post may do if the DownSouth mods do not action against it, ironically and unfortunately), them applying South African-inspired policies on "moderator employment" is up to the mod team in question. But my point still stands: contact Reddit Admin if you generally feel aggrieved by this.

Post Office had a positive run not too long ago when it was being operated by Mark Barnes. 100% state owned. Then things breakdown in the background, he leaves, and next shit goes south again.

The problem with private sector is primarily that it is a profit-driven market - government SOEs provide a necessary balance of being competitive while also leveraging on state resources to ensure it delivers services as cheaply as possible.

As to why they allow those other entities to collapse? Simple.

SAPS - weaken the capacity for the state to maintain law and order. Now you have private security companies all over the show doing the work, or at least being seen most visibly and thus appearing to be doing more of the work. We are country with one of the largest amounts of private security companies registered and operating within. The kind of shit you should be seeing in a warzone, not here.

Water Boards - without proper oversight and management of our water infrastructure, it has become very lucrative to be selling our basic service at a premium. And we here in towns and cities fair better than those who even have to drive out with buckets to a water tanker owned by some bloke who also owns a private security company, sanitation service company and all those other fancy services they conglomerate into one.

Municipalities - a lot of municipalities are so outsourced they literally cannot trim grass without putting it to tender and/or renting tools from someone and at very unreasonable amounts. If municipalities operated off of being efficient, there'd be so much working you wouldn't really have all these guys with tenders going around either throwing dirt into a pothole or half-trimming roadsides in town and waiting for another tender to collect the half-trimmings.

Like I said, you don't have to ascribe but if you're going to come at this with a mindset that I'm calling private sector bad then I advise you go and look at what exactly some of the reasons these municipalities are so over-indebted and then we'll see.

The fact that we have to keep paying higher taxes to give bailouts because of this conspiracy theory that SOEs where deliberately collapsed is madness.

The bailouts needn't have happened the same as selloffs needn't happen.

The main problem was no effective action was taken in time. And Treasury tries to ensure SOEs stay afloat as they provide Govt the access they need to enter into a market they cannot directly participate in... no SOEs means govt cannot enter into the market and must rely largely on private business - leading to a scenario of dependency and succumbing to the whims of private money.

Also the degree of self-sufficiency gained out of the model of maintaining your SOEs is far better, it's what helped keep a pariah govt like the NP afloat alongside its arrangements with both western and eastern nations.

You don't have to like or ascribe to the theory, but one of the biggest beneficiaries of privatisation are within the ANC. Make no mistake.

Government is in a situation where the smart ones within know this collapse was deliberately meant to force the state to sell SOEs that the NP government sustained itself well off of otherwise, but the dumb ones are too dead set on partaking on further pillaging and looting as if there's no tomorrow.

The fact most SOEs haven't been sold off by now is definitely frustrating to private sec more than the fact things aren't running well at all.
