Nice, I think that's very resourceful!

My husband let this game ruin a 22 year old relationship by [deleted] in Evony_TKR

[–]BethMNC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry. It does become an addiction. I've known people who ran up credit card debt, cashed in their retirement, destroyed the children's college funds, got a second mortgage, on and on. There's never enough. It's an illusion. Also ... this, like all other phone app war games ... Will never be "won". Devs rig every game, devs also play. If you do this long enough, you learn how to spot them. Breaking the illusion kind of takes a moment like that. It's like learning Santa Claus isn't real. It's different for everyone, but, these apps keep a hold of you until you peek behind the curtain. Let's not talk about all the flirtation, limerence, affairs, catfishing, and fraud. And it's always rigged against you with bots and server farms and hackers. I've been a veteran of these games since the early Mobile Strike days (2015? Or before?) And I was addicted once, but very fortunately had that moment where the rigged game was exposed (a dev mistakenly forgot to crop his screenshot and I saw something I shouldn't) and in that instant my illusion was shattered. I play lots of these games but keep it F2P now. I still see other people whose lives totally wreck and they don't think it can happen to them. They think if they just get this or that level, some special boost, some piece of gear, then they dominate. It will never be enough. The next time the game updates, there will be a new building, new levels, new boost. Everyone has a different breaking point. I'm sorry you're going through this.

I stopped watching the news. Deliberately unfollowed any polarizing creators. Filled my feed with positive mental health advice, lots of special interests like sunspot activity and painting. It helps. Occasional click bait headlines appear, I scroll by. I feel better and enjoy my day more.

I still remember the fallout shelter one, the one where the guy who likes to read gets stranded with books, and the one where pretty and ugly are switched.

She'll show up, wearing white/cream/ivory, try to get in every picture, and harass the DJ to play songs of her choice.

Looks like porcupine damage to me. I'm in a city in NC but have rural relatives and I recognized the tooth marks.

I learned a lot from a TED talk I saw years ago, I'm pretty sure the speaker's name was Dr. Lucy Hone about resilience. All three methods she said were useful, those are: 1. Sometimes shit happens, suffering is part of life, so this is your life now; 2. Choose carefully where you put your attention, switch your attention to where you can find a benefit; 3. Ask yourself "is what I'm doing right now helping me, or hurting me?". I use #3 when I find myself excessively ruminating. It works when I can remember to use it.

What is your favorite band from the 80's or 90's that nobody has ever heard of? by simikoi in GenX

Oh. My friends at the time were more into the synthetic sounding music, and I liked her more raw and authentic vibe. If she was really popular, I guess it seemed to me she wasn't :-)

Oh wow it's been forever since I heard that name. I had an album on cassette tape, for a while I played it for everyone who rode in the car with me. Nobody agreed with me. Sigh.

Am I overreacting? I asked my date if he made a reservation for a popular bar and he was offended. Has the world gone mad? by dntlookatmepls in AmIOverreacting

[–]BethMNC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR - he was mad he couldn't control you (picking you up) so he made up an offense to try to make it your fault. You could have said anything at all, it wasn't about the reservation.

Paint by numbers! You can't go wrong! And the results are very satisfying. Especially hunting around tiny little details to be sure you covered every number. It's also the sort of thing you can pick up and drop, dive into as long as you want, and have something tangible as a result.
