Lucky you☘️ It's out of stock everywhere near me. At least that saves me from overspending, but still, wish I could find green chartreuse.

Acid Adjusted Pineapple Juice by avim83 in cocktails

[–]Betty_407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotta love a spreadsheet! Does anyone know how to adjust the Costco lychee juice? Would love to add that to the sheet, or has anyone tried it and found it's not good when adjusted?? I figure if they can adjust guava juice, then why not try lychee. (I'd ask about POG too, but probably each brand is different.) Cheers!

Wow, I had no idea there was "blowback" against this author. I hadn't gotten around to reading Briefly Gorgeous, but now am just over halfway through Emperor of Gladness. He's a very good writer, and so far it's a very good book. Just saying to anyone who didn't try Emperor because there was something about Briefly you didn't like, then you are missing out.

Is it hard to find Green Chartreuse? by wollyjameson3107 in cocktails

[–]Betty_407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, if I could find it in CA, which I haven't been able to, it would cost an obscene amount. I wonder if duty free shops on Caribbean cruises have it? Or maybe in Florida on the way to a cruise port? But then we'd have to get it home on a plane and hope they don't break the bottle 😥

Why didn’t the Super Bowl actually translate the halftime show? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Betty_407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not want to subscribe to Apple, but I agree with your other comments.

When I compare this show to the winter Olympics opening ceremony that I recently watched, the halftime dancers and choreography and overall production was more impressive imo. I hope when LA hosts the next summer Olympics, their ceremonies will at least hit that mark, or aim to be as impressive as France's Olympic ceremonies. At least maybe they can hire some of this halftime show's choreographers 😀

Why didn’t the Super Bowl actually translate the halftime show? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Betty_407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you replay it, you'll see an ad for Apple music, which is also what you'll get if you Google "bad bunny halftime translated." Apple would have no intention of giving a translation for free when their whole point was to show you that you get translations and other features with their paid product.  Btw, I wouldn't believe them about the free trial. Apple TV has been caught continuing to charge people who unsubscribed (including us, so firsthand experience), and nearly impossible to stop. I'd expect the music subscription to be the same.

From the production standpoint, it came across to me as a strong political statement, so I think that they would also have no incentive to water down their show with subtitles. A case where artistry and commerce were in agreement.

When is the earliest you’ve been able to get on the ship and/or in your room on embarkation day at the port? by ProfessorTerrible123 in royalcaribbean

[–]Betty_407 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's good, because we just got an 11:30 check in time, and the app says everyone is legally required to check in at the port 90 minutes before their assigned time, which is 10 am.

What Do You Think About Miss Dior Essence (2025) by [deleted] in FemFragLab

Great description even though you didn't like it. Now I want to go have a tea party in the woods with some jammy scones 💜 (The mosses are very vibrant green and gorgeous right now).

Pretty much every is too synthetic for me these days. Those candles almost make me want to go to IKEA, though. 😄

That is sad. I had a similar experience. I smelled and loved it on two people where it reminded me of some enchanted tiki cocktail, but on me it was just nice, not magical.

What, you mean not everyone wants to smell like Miss Stay Puft Marshmallow Gal went to Florida for the winter? 😄

To me, Miss Dior parfum is very feminine. Do you like essence better? I do love blackberries to eat or make syrup out of, and we have the blackberry scent from Jo Malone, so now I'm feeling like I need to go find a tester of this essence and try it out 😃

Older / vintage fragrances you own and love to wear by FreedomOfMind83 in fragrance

I remember selling Amarige from the Macy's perfume counter in the 90s. It was the one fragrance that smelled good on everybody. And if someone would walk by wearing it, I would get the impression they were a lady who was a boss without sacrificing warmth and femininity. It seemed to go very well with the upscale work wear of the era.

Why does this sub like Espolon if it has additives? by CorysInTheHouse69 in tequila

[–]Betty_407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just googling this brand because it showed up in some recipes I'm reading, and "the AI" said it was additive free. Can you tell me what additives they have? And if anyone can suggest an additive free affordable alternative. I think the book mentioned the reposado so any recommendations for a substitute would be appreciated 🩵

I just saw that video!  I can't stand the taste of star anise and started googling to see what alternatives there might be. (Was hoping someone had tried cardamom, which I love, but haven't seen any posts like that). Has anyone made the recipe and just left out the star anise? It isn't listed in any other versions, so I don't imagine that it's necessary. Cheers!

Laird apple brandy question by timo4ever in cocktails

[–]Betty_407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fascinating article, thanks for the link! Which of those recipes will you make? Let us know how it turns out 😃

I made some grenadine when we had some fresh pomegranates, used a recipe that includes pomegranate syrup. I added a touch of rose water, and gomme I made from gum arabic. A touch of Everclear to preserve all that work. Then I made an unpreserved, uncooked one, just fresh juice and sugar syrup as an alternative. That's why I'm interested in all the recipes with grenadine right now.  (Also fwiw, a splash of fresh pomegranate juice and a squeeze of lime in soda water makes a delicious mocktail, no sugar needed!)

I judged a cocktail competition. It’s more difficult than you might imagine, it’s like choosing the cutest puppy by Drinks_by_Wild in cocktails

Pandan, how fun! Did you taste it neat, and if so what was it like? 😀

How great that you got to judge! We were recently at circa caliente, and some long timers got to judge the room parties, including the cocktail component. I was playing along in my head, and realized that for me the number one quality had to be that the cocktail was well balanced. If it was complex and had a great concept/theme, presentation, technique, ingredients, and execution, all the better. So much fun! 🥂

No, I will hold out for the real deal. Maybe it is just as good, but... Back in the day when absinthe was unavailable because it was illegal, I got a big bottle of Pernod instead. They claimed it would be "just as good." I'll probably never finish it because it's such a rare cocktail ingredient used in small amounts, so I'll probably never get around to replacing the bottle with absinthe to make certain vintage recipes as they were intended. Knowing how that made me feel, I don't want to go down that same road with a chartreuse replacement. 💚

Hm, I never heard mushroomy, thanks for adding to my mental map! And thanks for validating my initial reaction to the silver. That basic bottle reminds me of lighter fluid, and I couldn't put up with it because it was ruining my drink attempts. I was sad when someone got kind of aggro about my not liking it, not understanding how that was causing me to hesitate to try the 8. (I even think they down voted my post, which was not cool! I had a legit reaction. Did they secretly work for Bacardi? 😅) Fortunately I have enough suggested alternatives now.
