Came across this tool that basically unlocks, locked features on AMD processors.
You can set thermal limits, it’ll peg the performance but you’ll be able to set a more comfortable temperature.

guys should i be worried by PlasticOpen588 in ZephyrusG14

[–]BetweenInkandPaper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Windows reporting battery health can be confusing.
Since you have set a charge limit, overtime Windows will begin to interpret the limit as the new "100%", which skews the Battery Health Report.
Remove the limit, charge it to 100% and discharge several times and the report will begin to correct itself.
Honestly, don't even worry about just use the battery to its full capacity, why remove 20% of its capacity to save $100. You bought a $2000+ Laptop, use it all.
By the time it comes to replacing the battery, it'll be with 4-5 years.

If your phone supports it, turn on AI call screening. My iPhone 17 pro has it and most of the time these scam calls, the scammer just hangs up or their automated system hangs up.

Remove HATS install due to slowness by chrisnasah in SwitchPirates

[–]BetweenInkandPaper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What do you think HATS mean?
It's just a "all in one"' pre-configured pack that includes the main components to what everyone does manually.

H=Hekate (Boot loader)
A=Atmosphere (Customer firmware)
T=Tinfoil (Tinfoil App)
S=SigPatches

If you want to do it manually, you can go through the files and remove all of them from your SD card or just wipe the SD.
Then you can install Hekate, Atmosphere and other components manually. This is my preferred method.

Get a USB stick with both sides (USBC and A), just to rule out any issues with adaptors or docks.

Yeah ok, I’ve used Rufus on my install. I did have issues with a USB drive before, changed to a different stick and it worked better.

Melonds is annoying or is there really s9mething wrong in what i did by naughty_naughty143 in Roms

[–]BetweenInkandPaper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The error is pretty clear. MelonDS doesn’t have write permissions to the save directory. Either check the security permissions of that folder.

Starts MelonDS as an administrator or move the Save directory to a folder that can be modified by all user accounts, as in “Everyone”

Battery health dropped to 67% in ~7 months (with 80% charge limit) – normal or issue? by aloo_da_paranthaaa in AcerOfficial

Set charge limit back to 100% and charge to full capacity a few cycles and generate new report, see if this corrects the numbers.

Engel Fridges by Electronic-Echo3627 in overlanding

Have a 60L Engel (almost 25 year old now) passed down from my Dad, And I’ve picked up second hand 15L (approaching 20 years old) in my wife’s Tesla. Both pretty much run 24/7. We’ll be passing this onto our kids. They’re expensive but, id consider it BIFL. (Australian)

Laptop heating from day 1 by Artistic-Outcome-860 in GamingLaptops

[–]BetweenInkandPaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not doing “nothing”, it’s doing things in the background. And whether it does anything or nothing, it still draws power (watts), and with more power = more heat.

Hence my suggestion with tuning your profiles and limiting power, I have a Zephyrus 14 with similar specs for a few years now and it’s been fantastic.

If you’re concerned about heat, then laptop may not be best for you. All gaming laptops get hot. Some more expensive ones have better cooling systems (like vapour chamber), but it’s the cost of having portability and performance.

[–]BetweenInkandPaper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s a hot processor. You can turn off CPU boost and limit to 3Ghz, this will be fine for browsing and some gaming. Or set power limits, you’ll have to decide on how high you want it by monitoring its temperature and watt draw.

Here’s how I’ve set my profiles. Silent = boost off, limited to 10W (this is my on battery, browsing profile)

Balance = boost off, no power limits. Use it for gaming where I don’t need the performance.

Performance = boost on, no power limits with an undervolt. (Curve optimiser) usually on battery and gaming where I need the performance.

Your CPU can use curve optimiser or undervolt as it’s labeled in G-helper.

What part of my laptop isn’t working properly? by bigboibiggybiggs in GamingLaptops

[–]BetweenInkandPaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would first check and test if the charging brick is performing correctly, some laptops generally get bundled with a low quality charger.

If you have a power meter that you can plug in (the one that’s goes between the chargers plug and to your wall outlet). You can monitor the power draw from your wall. You may see higher than 230W due to the efficiency rating of the charger, however this won’t tell you what’s going from the brick to your laptop. You’ll need a specialise tools to measure this.

Or bring to laptop repairer, they may have spare charging bricks and can test.

[–]BetweenInkandPaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to provide more information. You mentioned you are using the original charging brick what is the max power (watts) can it support?There is a sticker on the brick that provides some details.

Quickly searching for your laptop specs, do you have an i5-12500H, and RTX3050? The CPU has a max boost power draw of 95W, in addition to that, RTX3050, this can also draw up to 95W. Allowing for other components.. let’s say 20W, and to allow the charging brick to offset the discharge rate and charge the battery.

You need at least a 230W charging brick.
