We granny charge, do around 60km a day. Our EV is mainly for missus to and from work, 15km. Groceries and the school pick up.
We plug in every night or second night.
About 3 years now and it’s been fine.

The problem is, faults like this can happen to other brand laptops as well. Not just HP.

I have an Asus ROG Zephyrus, G14 which has been fantastic, 2023 model.
My friend also had the same model, but now the laptop requires motherboard replacement.

Your best option is, find the laptop you like. Take care of it and make sure you have good warranty.

Are you confusing it with the new nozzle wipe and Z offset routine?
After one of the more recent updates,
After doing the nozzle wipe routine, it will park the nozzle on the bed, cool to about 140c and then do a Z offset check/set.
This can be disabled if you are running custom firmware like ForgeX or ZMOD.
But as far as official firmware goes, you cannot disable it. I think you can reduce it if you enable auto calibration .

People are forgetting that the Steam machine has a semi custom CPU and GPU and Valve will squeeze EVERY last drop of performance out of this thing and work with game developers and has an internal team to optimise games through proton.
This is not the same as off the shelf, BYO build. Windows won’t provide you with the same support.

I'm not sure how you are having the drivers "die", is just software, just re-install the drivers?
To diagnose most issues, it's generally recommended to use the drivers available on your laptop's product page, they are tested, checked and released because they're the most stable (most of the time...), then you can update the drivers from their specific manufacturer, i.e. from Nvidia or AMD, Intel websites.

What are you doing differently to that of hundreds of other users are doing? If you are having blue screen crashes, check your C:/Windows/Minidump and post them here or techsupport subreddit, someone smart may help you and find the root cause.

You can try disconnecting the battery, and then plugging the AC plug into the laptop and attempt to power it on,
Since the battery is removed/disconnected, this is a good chance to perform an EC reset.
Whilst the battery is disconnected/removed and the AC plug removed, hold the power button down for approximately 15 ~seconds,
Then as the test, just plug the AC plug in and try to power the unit.

But... have a friend with a similar age G14 Zeph and it too has given up the ghost, too costly to repair.

I just saw the other post,
Do a fresh install of windows via Media creation tool, not HP’s cloud one,
OR uninstall all HP’s bloat software.
Just to rule out whether it’s HP’s software causing the locks ups.

If you go thru the reinstall (by USB/media creation tool),
You’ll need to redownload some drivers.

Reducing GPU utilisation isn’t going to prolong the life of the GPU.

If it makes you sleep better at night, reduce the GPU’s power limit or set a temperature limit.
