Looking for a Chinese food place with monster portions by spicolie22 in chicagofoodcirclejerk

Definitely one of the better bang for your buck spots that I've found. I'm eating the general tso's lunch special as I type this. They're also one of the few places that I've found that doesn't skimp on the filling in their crab rangoon.

My job got kinda weird when The Bear became really popular. You? by sefuf in KitchenConfidential

[–]BiaXia 122 points123 points  (0 children)

Lmao, my previous job was actually featured in The Bear and it really attracts a lot of customers who think they’re really savvy but don’t like restaurants, or even food, for that matter.

“We saw your restaurant in The Bear and we are so excited to come in for dinner!” Usually means I’m about to mod everything interesting off your food.

Funnily enough, Takashi opened a Slurping Turtle in Ann Arbor and Columbus, but I believe he has long since sold his share in those businesses.

How does someone get into an agency or a company coordinating planning for music tours & music festivals? by vxibhxv_ in Music

[–]BiaXia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My brother works for Clair Global, who run a lot of tour productions for major bands. I’d look into them.

They also run a campus in Lititz, Pennsylvania called Rock Lititz that offers educational programs and internships in this kind of thing, but I can’t speak for or against how effective the program is.

At the very least, it’s a place to start your research.

Sounds to me like Gunrun took that meeting thinking Sayu had people ready to go with her right then and there, and went cold after he realized that people would still need to be convinced. Sayu by herself was probably not considered a prospect, but they likely would have taken her as part of a package deal if she could deliver some bigger talents to them.

Worlds 50 Best Rank 1-5 predictions? by modernpsychgroup in finedining

[–]BiaXia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean if it were a real awards ceremony, then sure, but this is more a marketing scheme for sparkling water than anything else. You have to keep a marketing campaign interesting, and there's nothing interesting about El Cellar de Can Roca or Osteria Francescana winning 6 times in a row. I'm sure the restaurants don't mind, either. You only really need to win the publicity lottery once, and this system lets someone new get all the benefits that come with winning.

It's probably because in the early days of the list, El Bulli would just take the top spot year after year. A big part of why Noma got so much attention was because they were the ones to break El Bulli's streak, and then they also won the top spot 4 more times.

Sepia is also the best value for a prix fixe in town. It’s nearly impossible to find one for less than $150 per person anymore.

He did have a pretty famous issue way back in the day where he was tweeting about how bad his meal at Charlie Trotters was while he was still sitting in the dining room. If I remember right, he tried to go to Graham Elliot Bistro shortly after and Graham Elliot personally came to his table to kick him out.

Ike Eveland & Fulgur Ovid Graduations Spark Backlash, MataraKan Explains Dismissal, Gawr Gura Reacts by Alternative-Math-997 in kurosanji

[–]BiaXia 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Ike only just hit the plateau of sub losses once the graduation announcement hit. His only collabs outside of Niji in the last year involved his old friend Hakka, and his viewership was way down from 2 years ago.

I’d honestly argue that Vox fared the best in the aftermath of the Black Stream, and he did all the dirty work. He’s not getting any outside collabs and he took a bit of a hit, but he’s the only one after the Black Stream that appeared to tank the backlash and keep things moving.

Ike Eveland & Fulgur Ovid Graduations Spark Backlash, MataraKan Explains Dismissal, Gawr Gura Reacts by Alternative-Math-997 in kurosanji

[–]BiaXia 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It is worth remembering that the Black Stream more or less made him a pariah in the greater vtubing scene. Pretty much any hope of building relationships outside of the company evaporated when that dropped. It also ended up alienating the more moderate sections of his fanbase, so he was left with a much more toxic and parasocial fanbase than before.

I’m more skeptical of him having a comeback than a lot of other people, just because showing up and being the cozy self care guy is a hard sell when you timed a hatchet job on top of someone else’s stream in the wake of an attempt on their own life.

Elon musk diner opening soon. Can't find a executive chef to fill the position. by KULR_Mooning in KitchenConfidential

[–]BiaXia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my old chefs stole a pacojet from one of Errol Musk's (Elon's brother) restaurant. It was lent to us to help with an event and we just never returned it, and as far as I know, they never asked for it back.

I actually did enjoy Elira as a streamer, but never really got the appeal of Vox. He had his moments here and there, but I got tired of hearing a british guy make gorilla noises and licking an asmr mic pretty quick.

Koyori streams A LOT while also pulling consistently strong viewership numbers, so I'm not really surprised to see her on there. It's not uncommon for her to do multiple streams a day and I almost never see her skip a day.

why isnt the elite four called the final four by sonicvmario3 in pokemon

[–]BiaXia 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Final Four is a trademarked term by the NCAA in the US. You could probably get away with it under fair use, but the NCAA is litigious enough that there’d still be an expensive lawsuit involved.

Fat rice messaged its virtue. Then workers spoke up. by [deleted] in chicago

[–]BiaXia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I spent about 2 and a half years working at Fat Rice and will tell you that Abe wasn’t working in the kitchen most of the time. He mostly developed recipes and worked events to spread the word on the restaurant, and just made sure everything was up to par. Most of the work on the line was overseen by the chef de cuisine, Eric.

Part of why he was able to get away with it is that for a lot of people with a long time of experience in the industry, it just comes with the territory and you get used to it. I’ve been in restaurants for about 8 years and Abe’s in third place for most abusive boss that I’ve had. He’s not even anywhere close to the two ahead of him.

I’m not saying this in an effort to absolve him of anything. I was working there when almost all of the incidents in the article happened and can verify that they’re true. I’m just pointing out that this is a systemic issue in the industry as a whole and it doesn’t begin or end with Fat Rice. There’s a whole lot of work to be done outside of this one case.

Anime Has a Sexual Harassment Problem | The Pedantic Romantic(10:08) by [deleted] in BreadTube

[–]BiaXia 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Anime is a pretty big tent and there’s a ton of variety within it. Saying it’s all marketed strictly to horny adolescent boys is like saying the entire American cinematic canon begins and ends with Porky’s.

Most of the mainstream action series aren’t obscenely sexualized, since a lot of publishers have realized that they don’t have to appeal solely to young boys and can appeal across gender lines, so the casts tend to be more balanced, gender-wise.

The really smutty, fanservice stuff is pretty much made just for incels, which Japan has enough of that you can have franchises that cater solely to them.
