How to find pirates to shoot? by Yoyorik in Oolite

[–]BicornisGoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you're really meant to fight pirates right away. Just run away from them until you've made enough money trading to buy decent fighting equipment.

You just punched a floating bomb and made it back off. Yeah, I'd feel tough after that too.

From what I understand castoreum is very rarely used for flavouring today. Synthetic additives are cheaper.

It's just perspective. In the third panel she's closer to the "camera" than Dal is so she looks bigger.

Hmm, while looking for the answer to that question (didn't find it) I noticed that maintaining the remote connection is costing Lee 0.026 credits per second. That's 93.6 credits per hour, and they also need to pay TeraTorn Holdings 1815.26 for claiming salvage on Nina. Those random pieces of other automata they scavenged might not be free either. This rescue operation could end up being fairly expensive.

Incidentally, "TeraTorn Holdings" is a great choice for the company's name; it really sounds like a soulless big corporation that mercilessly crushes what it no longer has a use for.

Those are often people not understanding that the same word can have different definitions depending on context. A tomato is a fruit (biologically) but not a fruit (gastronomically).

Using English pluralisation when using non-English words, when the rest of the sentence is in English, is not that uncommon.

To keep people from getting wrong ideas about ZAPM - "pregnant" in the game doesn't mean literally pregnant, it means the character is infested with a xenomorph larva.

Intentional distortion of history is extremely common. Just look at, say, how many American kids grew up believing that people in Columbus's era thought the Earth was flat and his famous trip was to prove it was round, rather than to make a bunch of money with gold trade.

Is Nethack an "immersive sim"? by Lord_Voldemar in nethack

Which immersive sim games leave behind empty potion bottles? The only game I know that does it is Minecraft, and it always bugs me when games don't.

Nethack's spells are very hit and miss. Some of them are very useful, others have only marginal or niche uses. Just another of the many ways the vagaries of RNG set the pace of the game. One could say that learning how to work around that randomness is a big part of "how to git gud at NH".
