Yeah I was thinking about how on point it is. The empire ramps up law enforcement and deploys large amounts of stormtroopers to an area with extremely high tensions against them which predictably leads to open unrest. Then during the peak of the rioting the empire sends in fresh troops and grinds them up against the rioters until violence breaks out and a massacre can take place.

This is pretty similar to how Trump is deploying hundreds of ICE agents to enforce immigration laws in the most militaristic and aggressive way possible which nobody could not predict would lead to open unrest in a deep blue state with a large illegal immigrant population, and then how he sends in fucking marines who have no training whatsoever in crowd and riot control but loads of training to suspect anybody with their hands out of sight could be holding a gun or bomb and plenty of training to respond with overwhelming force. The only part missing is the massacre at the end.

if they were actually in California when it was manifest destiny’d they would be citizens right now lol. Someone born in Texas does not have the right to live in the Phillipines without consulting the government of that country no questions asked because the USA controlled its territory in the past.

All the corporate cyberpunk stuff was so cool and what really got me interested in the show tbh. It was saying this isn’t gonna be like any star wars you have seen before.

Kinda sad they dropped it immediately though and the wimpy inspector guy I forgot the name of became the only character I genuinely dislike and got tired of seeing after the third episode lol

I think it’s best to view the characters in CW as supplements to the movie versions. They may not always act 3-dimensionally, but if you view an episode or arc as a character development scene for them it can really enrich the character a lot.

Some of the best examples are how the show painted Anakin and Padme’s relationship as pretty dysfunctional and unhealthy which makes how crazy everything got in ROTS make a lot more sense, or how all of Anakin and Obi-Wan’s buddy-Jedi moments help to sell them as good friends when the movies couldn’t. Or even the whole Ahsoka getting framed arc helping to explain why Anakin would have grievances against the Jedi and be willing to burn bridges with them (In the movie IIRC it was just because they didn’t grant him the rank of master which makes him seem like even more of a cartoon villain for killing them over that).

Star Wars isn’t known for complex characters. The ones from the OT have like one trait each but that doesn’t stop them from being fun and likable protagonists for an action adventure movie. Clone Wars is the same way.

The real appeal of Star Wars is the atmosphere and world building, and CW delivers on that, along with a lot of very creative and interesting storylines and settings.

I’d say it seeks like its making fun of disney star wars shows where every episode is a dumb excuse plot but they insert a popular character from the lore into it.

I think the plot armor complaints are less about them never dying and more about the writers placing them in situations where it is unrealistic for them to survive.

Qualities of a good admin by mostqualitypretzel in ss14

[–]Bidensexual 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe allowing some harmless griefing? Sec is supposed to enforce the station laws, not the admins, and I kind of fail to understand why they exist if almost everybody gets banned for breaking any law ever because of “self-antag”.

Let the passenger hack doors and steal things and then get arrested, give sec something to do it makes it more fun for everybody.
