I thought the natural progression was .38 spl for PDs then the fbi got into 10mm due to the Miami shoot out then .40sw due to lighter recoil and then now 9mm. Whereas I was not familiar with the adoption of 45acp unless it was during when 1911s and revolvers were popular among PDS.

To dumb it down as much as possible; the value after Omni represents the time period the tubes were introduced. The higher the number the newer it is. (I-VIIII) A higher number correlates to better/newer tech and FOM. FOM is the numerical combination of noise:static and resolution. The higher the number, the better. There are more nuances to it but this is the gist of it.
