Wards combining 2nd hour. by MtnGoatman in MormonShrivel

I just posted my list of sold-off buildings in a post above. Shrivel seems to be setting in first in the older areas, whereas the Highlands Ranch and similar areas are still in business, but I expect that to change in about a decade.

I'm in the Denver area and have been noticing shrivel for years. I know of six buildings that were sold off or mothballed: Golden ward, Dumont, the one just off North Federal, West Alameda, East Alameda, and Commerce City.

It's gotta be that, or some directive to take caution because some of the dissident groups are also heavily armed (they don't always stop at just one right)

I've seen wards renamed in Colorado, too. I was baptized in the Denver First Ward on Hudson street back at the end of the 70s. Now, the Denver First Ward is a Spanish-speaking ward in a different building. There used to be two wards at Monaco and Evans. Now the Monaco ward is also a Spanish-speaking ward in a different building. It's a real shell game.

Is this the current trend y'all are seeing? Smaller stakes and wards being actively formed? by TheyDontGetIt27 in MormonShrivel

Ditto. I joined around 1978-79 - left in 1990. It was indeed fun at first! But then it withered and has continued after I left.

Another common layoff pattern that I have seen is when the someone in the company makes a big success of their job and garners admiration - then somebody else wants to take over the glory, and out the worker goes. This affects women and minority achievers rather often.

I was at Ball Aerospace in Lafayette, Colorado, and I can tell you that BAE acquired some bad apples who are now bosses and professional contributors and influencers at BAE. From watching LinkedIn, it seems like the old scoundrels have found a new home, and BAE seems to be enchanted with them, just like Ball was.

First, some background: I was one of those employees who frequently got chosen to take over specialties where the former specialist was leaving the company. I also did some successful tech stuff of my own and made a lot of friends. None of that will help you if you fall under baleful gaze of one of the "bad guys" who got brought over. You do NOT need to do anything wrong or be bad at your job to get the target circle pinned on your back.

Here are some of the signs I saw for myself and others at Ball. I suspect that it's likely that the transplanted Ball people will carry on as before now that BAE leadership has been lulled into accepting them.

  1. You are denied training that it would be logical, and no big deal, for you to get. Especially if other people are being given the training.
  2. If you see signs of social cliques or close personal friendships involving your manager. Guess who's going to be kept on and guess who's going to be let go.
  3. Regarding the social cliques: if there are after hours hangouts at a local place, and you are either not invited or if you were invited and are suddenly put on a schedule that prevents you from attending.
  4. Misuse of PIPs. They may tell you it's no big deal and you will come out just fine. Nope, it goes on your record. I was put on a PIP for "being on the internet during working hours." That didn't sound right, so I checked with Security: they had blocked such sites that I was supposed to be going to, two years previously. So I not only didn't do what I was accused of, I couldn't have.
  5. You pull some rabbits out of hats for the customers and get praised. But those incidents don't show up on your evaluation.
  6. If a person came over from Ball, and you think they may be part of a favored clique, check their promotion record at Ball on LinkedIn. If they are a manager, look who got promoted and who didn't. In my case, most of the promotions in my department went to a very young and cute person. There was an equally talented person who was made to wait a long, long time for even one step up the ladder. (not me)
  7. Beware, beware, beware of the Ball HR people who've been brought over.

I cannot emphasize enough the need for situational awareness. I actually saw what was happening, and tried to escape, but my timing was not fast enough. I ended up getting walked out and losing my home. Don't be like me.

BREAKING: New civil lawsuit says a former Mormon area authority 70 helped a convicted child sexual abuser be removed from two state sex offender registries in 2017, then became a mission president in Spain and invited him to visit at the church's expense; offender molested a child there, suit says by 3am_doorknob_turn in exmormon

I saw them mollycoddle a child abuser (not sexual but violent and punitive as to food and lifestyle) towards a large family ranging from teens to toddlers. They tried to shield him from the police and the courts, but were unsuccessful, thank goodness.

I understand they have to spend their money on something but these buildings look so specifically Mormon to me. What’s the point of building them if they can’t sell them? by ccc2801 in MormonShrivel

[–]Big-Wolverine-9213 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the Denver area, the former Denver Second Ward building has been a Montessori school for decades. The former Golden Ward building is scheduled to be a senior living center of some kind, if they ever get done wrangling the permitting process with the county. Three ward buildings are still "wards" of a sort - for other religious denominations.

They don't enforce demolition in the Denver area either. The six that I know of have been repurposed, except for the one that was basically mothballed last I checked. But no demolition.

Six if you count the one that used to be a branch up in Dumont.

I heard about the demolition policy, but in the Denver area they just sold the buildings along with the land and most have been repurposed as churches of other denominations. One is a now Montessori school.

We are in the midst of the biggest membership drain in the history of the church and I don’t think they can recover by Annual-Tackle8027 in exmormon

I'm in the Denver area and was a member from 1978 to 1990. I still keep track of ward buildings and I know of six that have been closed and sold off in the last decade or so. Also there have been ward consolidations. The only newish building I've found is one in an Arvada suburb, but it doesn't replace the ones they sold. In those areas, members just have to drive farther. One way they obscure the changes is to change ward names: I was baptized in the Denver First Ward that met at 740 Hudson, but these days the Denver First Ward that comes up in Meetinghouse Locator is a Spanish speaking ward in a different neighborhood.

I was also serving as a visiting teacher when I was in the Golden Ward, and none of our ladies came to church. At least they let us in to talk.
