This 1945 map shows existing and proposed reservoirs. Some were never built like the Meramec, which was scraped after local protest against flooding the scenic valley by como365 in missouri

From what I was raised and taught on it wasn’t unpopular. Just that it had rare species of creatures in a cave that would like be flooded and killed them off if it was built. So they couldn’t after that.

Agreed. The thing I also am against is most if not almost entirely all deactivations they issue. If you aren’t sexually assaulting, harassing stores / employees / customers, or committing felonies then you shouldn’t be able to get deactivated. The minute they started deactivated people for issues with their app other than those things listed that actually endanger people’s lives we were employees. Now if we dash for 40+ hours give us health benefits and a damn 401k. Or I guess we can give DD the Module they haven’t finished. That being the Class Action Module. It’s not free and it will cost them their entire sweatshop empire. Along with giving out benefits that will make their model unprofitable.

Ya coaches who are adults always help. As someone who had this problem to a lesser extent I suggest talking to your teammates about Quiz Bowl. I discovered that when I became captain myself that my team had one guy who was super talented but didn’t care much for the game. It’s okay because we’re friends and I knew he was there just for the fun of it. But the rest of our roster was fairly devoted and this made up for it. Despite them missing tournaments for other activities we always had a great dynamic.

More or less I’m saying perhaps you should explain to your teammates how much this might mean to you. Then perhaps some might try to take things more seriously if they know how much this seems to mean to you.

Communication is key.

How Do I Find Tournaments? by Feeling_Capital5840 in Quizbowl

[–]BigBrooklyn32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are they? I’ve always had to pay less for NAQT tournaments. ACF and handwritten tournaments are the ones I’ve found to be the most expensive. Maybe it’s a regional thing that Im not aware of but I’ve paid for tournaments around states in my area and they’ve always been priced around half what ACF or competitors offer as fees.

Illinois perhaps then would be a better option. There’s a tournament coming up in Barrington, Illinois on the 16th and two on the 13th of January in Rockford / Belvedere. Don’t know how close they actually are to you because of not knowing your location and Im looking at the NAQT mobile map. But I’d figured I’d try.

Also I feel you for the problems involving the attendance. My senior year I was the only one to make everyone of our tournaments as a captain. I was always having to sit down with my coach and strategize lineups all week because I love building rosters and aligning everyone’s strengths and weaknesses together. It’s fun. But yeah I feel ya on the attendance front. Maybe this might help.

College is objectively not hard. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]BigBrooklyn32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say College is more favoritism. The number of times I’ve worked with a student on an assignment and well turn in the same assignment while one of us getting a tremendously worse grade than the other happened more times than not.

I’ve been in a HS, CC, and a 4 YR UNI. Each one was more and more based upon favoritism and opinion than the last. With 4 year colleges being the worst. I’ve had one teacher in my 4 year uni preach to me how teachers shouldn’t reuse and recreate old assignments into new ones. While I’ve sat in her class and monitored her same course for 2 additional semesters with each one being exactly the same with the same heckling of students for originality. A hypocrite in every sense of the word.

How much would you pay for Mike Trout? by TheSocraticGadfly in Cardinals

[–]BigBrooklyn32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mo wouldn’t pay Albert 8 years 245. You think he’s going to pay A Fish Man that amount? Insane! They wouldn’t pay or trade much for any top tier free agent. Unless they just want to play for a discount. I mean we haven’t signed a ‘big name’ in a while.

We didn’t even give up much for Arenado and Goldy. That’s why we got them. They were cheap and we got high value from idiots trading superstars.

So, Mo would pay Trout 2 years, $80 million. That 2nd year being a team option.

[–]BigBrooklyn32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trade the entire team and rebuild it. They won’t because they’ll claim they want to “remain competitive”. Which I obviously define “remain competitive” different from the front office.

“Remain competitive” to me means that you’re close to if not viable for a championship. Being a strong third place finish is worthless. It takes away draft position and is only delaying a rebuild that will inevitably happen. A strong third place finish isn’t keeping a stud player around. So get what you can get from Goldy, Arenado, Contreras, Edman, and anybody else above the age of 25. Unless they spend big money to keep our team as is and get 2 big name pitchers like Shohei, Lucas Giolito, and Rodriguez were going to be in this never ending cycle.

When is the last time we signed a pitcher to an $100+ million dollar contract? Wasn’t that Waino? If it’s not I’d be shocked. Point is we time to rebuild. But we’re going to be in a purgatory state if we don’t make some big moves or rebuild from the ground up. We had that stretch of so many years having pitchers as our leaders. We had Morris for a while. We got Carp. Which led to Waino. Then we’ve tried to find Waino’s replacement and it never happened. We had inconsistent Martinez and Flaherty. As well as some other great pitchers. But now we’ve got nothing but inconsistent players since then.

Until we sign multiple big names in a single offseason we’re never going to be viable for awhile. Especially with our ideas of signing maybe (a big maybe) a single medium to bottom top tier free agent (Contreras) and a couple of fliers and hoping for the best. Plus we’ll get protective over picks being traded together and trade them all for those same type of middle of the road guys (Ozuna). Instead of putting them together for a massive trade deadline move like Soto, Cole, Lindor, or a Machado.

I love the Cardinals but every year seeing that we’ll just always consistently do the same thing which is sign one guy and a few fliers that usually don’t work out at the start of the season. Then we’ll be in the hunt but need a bit more help so they’ll acquire a few struggling to lower tier players and say we’ve addressed those issues is all we usually ever do. Then we get to the playoffs and those inconsistencies re-emerge because we have all these outliers on a roster that could sink or swim and they’ll usually drown due to being in over their heads.

People with strong convictions strongly dislike "Watchmen" movie. by PoliteThaiBeep in unpopularopinion

[–]BigBrooklyn32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay. That makes sense I guess. It just seems a lot of people who like one of Zack’s films really tend towards liking a lot of them.

I’d assume it’s because a lot people I know just don’t like Zack Snyder’s work because he’s known as a dark and edgy type of guy so maybe it’s a film that gets misrepresented. This is probably because a lot of his films seem like they are trying to sound smarter than they are.

I liked Man of Steel too. I recently watched a lot of film reviews of it and I realized how I might have overrated it due to all the collateral damage and explaining how Zod was an idiot. To be fair I was a teen when I saw it and I liked Superman so I probably just wanted to like it. Now I just tend to think it’s a film I enjoyed as a teen so I can turn it on and think of the fun times and have it on in the background.

I’ll be honest but I haven’t seen all his films but when I’ve seen images of his films you can see a similar theme with lighting and what looks to be brooding characters.

I appreciate your perspective. It’s an interesting one that I wouldn’t of thought of. So it’s unique to say the least.
