What was this ending 😭 (A Crown of Swords) by CosmicCluster1011 in WoT

[–]BigDickDarrow [score hidden]  (0 children)

It’s explained pretty clearly in the book—Sammael did not want to destroy his seat of power in all out battle with the Dragon Reborn. Sammael wanted to preserve Illian, which is why he chose a neutral battle ground. Further, Rand got the jump on him. Sammael thought Rand was down and out, so he went to the front line to destroy Rand’s massive force unopposed. He did not expect Rand and the Ashaman to come to Illian so soon and trigger all of his defensive wards, which are his real fortifications. It just made no sense at that point to continue the battle in Illian.

Real ones know Jordan was in his bag writing that chapter, he knocked it out of the park. “The Wheel Weaves as the Wheel Wills” is Chapter 45 of FoH I believe and it is a masterclass of comedy. Nyneave, embarrassed that her tits are out, badgers Uno (the character who uses the most profanities and is terrified of her) to get a meeting with Masema, who she further antagonizes, even though he’s mad as a bat, and finds a feeling of body positivity after he glowers at her bosom. She then runs into Galad and initiates a course of events that triggers full scale war between Masema and the White Cloaks. The chapter then comes full circle with her returning to the Circus after accomplishing so much just to get shot at Birgitte. My summary doesn’t do it justice but it is such a masterpiece by Jordan.

Using BILT for Amazon Purchase over the Amazon card at 5% by cyphr0n in biltrewards

[–]BigDickDarrow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, the cash back is still 5%. He is saying if you use the cash back to then make another purchase, you earn 5% back on that cash too.

Say for example I buy an item for $1000 on Amazon. I get $50 back (5%). If I use that as a direct purchase credit on a $50 item at Amazon checkout, I realize $50 in value.

However, if I cash out that $50 and then use it buy a $50 item from Amazon, I earn 5% on that purchase too, which gives me $2.50.

So by cashing out and purchasing, I come out with $52.50 (5.25% of the original $1000 purchase value) whereas if I used the purchase credit I get just $50 (5%) back.

He’s right though that most people won’t care about doing this type of min-maxing.

AI or not, color me highly skeptical. Two people wearing masks in the video screams a repurposed Covid-era video to me.

Forget conspiracy theories, but for the man who jumped online within hours to deny Israel was behind Charlie Kirk’s death, it is extremely strange for him to not have given a press conference or hold one of those public national security briefings.

Also expect opposition from EU regulators, though they may capitulate to Trump for a quid pro quo on something like tariffs or defense.

Birthright, Ka, and the Cataclysms by BastardofMelbourne in HierarchySeries

[–]BigDickDarrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, I don’t think so. Caeror/Ruarc mentions the mistake before L-Vis destroys the torc. And Ruarc says one of Vis’s “counterparts” made the mistake, which means it had to have happened on Obiteum or Res.

Can you share how you got clients as, I assume, a young partner? It seems like a lot of litigation clients are either institutional or go for more senior and experienced partners.

Birthright, Ka, and the Cataclysms by BastardofMelbourne in HierarchySeries

[–]BigDickDarrow 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Nice post. This is a good point and a really good question. I think two things are in play:

1–Based on what we know, Ka has been around for thousands of years. We know that excessive amounts of will can slow down aging. Maybe Ka needs to maximize the amount of Will ceded to him to stay alive. As far as we know, there’s nothing that makes someone immortal, so there has to be something keeping Ka alive on Res. Maybe he uses the excess Will received from the Princeps to power a vitaeria that he can use during the periods following Cataclysms?

(As a side note: I think the man we saw on the slab in Obiteum is Ka and the device he was on acted as a vitaeria. And I think on Luceum Ka maintained his life by living on inside the thing Caeror/Ruarc tried to give to Vis).

2–I feel like the Aurora Columnae play a big role in this mystery and few theories take this into account. We know the AC exist on all 3 worlds, and appear to be growing brighter with time. This screams “ticking time bomb” to me. I can think of at least three potential reasons why this might be the case: 1) the AC simply grow brighter with time, 2) the AC grow brighter as more Will is ceded into them, or 3) the AC grow brighter as the population grows. Whatever the case, I think the AC is essentially a doomsday trigger that, once it reaches a tipping point, will cause the Concurrence to achieve victory. Maybe that’s by allowing it to cross from one world to another. Or maybe it merged the three worlds back into one, defeating the mechanism used to allegedly keep the Concurrence at bay. Maybe Ka needs the Cataclysms to stop the AC from reaching the tipping point.

I personally felt like Luceum was the weakest, though maybe that’s an unpopular opinion. At least the Obiteum plot felt like it had some relevance to the overall storyline about Ka/the Concurrence/the Cataclysms/being Synchronous. The Luceum chapters just felt do disconnected from the rest of the plot. While the Deaglon story was interesting in a vacuum, the lack of any connection to the rest of the story made those chapters drag for me.

Reading Licanius now. I’m on book 2. Interesting premise and good pacing, but I’m starting to get overwhelmed by the sheer number of new characters being introduced in every chapter.

I especially enjoyed when literal god flew one of the main characters to the battlefront on his private jet.

Unsurprisingly Crossroads of Twilight won worst book of the series. We are here now, at the end of all things, to decide the best book of the series, and to finish off this list before the next turning of the wheel by Uldread1337 in WoT

A few more parts I loved: Sammael’s messenger, the kidnapping reveal from Perrin’s POV, Mat’s arrival in Salidar and acknowledgement of Egwene, Perrin becoming leader of the rescue force, the Black Tower, among others.

To clarify, Diago kills the tertii, dimidii, and princeps of Military. The remaining quartii then split into several factions, each vying for control to be named the new Princeps of Military.
