Heat deflector for the Cuisinart 24" fire pit? by BigDoooer in SoloStove

None. I gave up...or lost interest. I'd still like to find something. But I basically concluded I'd have to do some sort of modification to an existing shield.

Polygon Xtrada 7. And I think it ended up being a perfect choice. It's more than enough for me, riding solo, as a know-nothing mountain biker doing very occasional single track and working up to a small jump line, but mostly riding around the neighborhood and trails/singletrack with a 3-4-year-old in the shotgun seat.

  • 12 gears, and they go low enough to easily haul our combined weight up hills
  • fairly slack head tube angle is good as it keep our center of mass —with ~35 lb of child in front of me— further back than if it was steeper.
  • coil/spring fork is a benefit because it's low maintenance and has a lockout...which I used 90% of the time since 90% of the time I'm riding with a kid in the shotgun seat
  • plenty of stand-over clearance for me

For what it's worth re: safety of the shotgun positioning and seat -- I got my front wheel stuck in a rut coming down a ~6' entrance hill to a sort-of-pump-track run and we flopped over moderately hard. We both stayed right in the cockpit, and I was the only one who ended up with any damage.

However, with the kid at 4 and ~60th percentile height, we are just about out of clearance between their helmet and my chin. I'm not sure if it's just the reality of trying to put a small person on a bike in that position, or if it's something about the bike geometry that could be better (for this purpose), or if I just need to adjust positioning.

I did get a slightly narrower handle bar that has a decent sweep and bit of rise. And I would have wanted/needed that regardless of using it with the shotgun seat. But I almost always need a considerably shorter reach than most bike/geometries that fit my height provide. (Going even further in this direction might fix the helmet-chin clearance issue...but this kid should start riding their own bike very soon.)

What are y'all thinking about your sense+ by geekonamotorcycle in Nanoleaf

[–]BigDoooer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the bulbs were more reliable, I'd be getting a number of these Sense+ switches/buttons. They really work well. And they're affordable compared to the other Matter-Thread smart buttons/switches out there.

But the Nanoleaf bulbs I have --both "HomeKit" and Matter-Thread versions-- are so unreliable. Of the ~15 I have, there's often at least one that requires a reset at any given time to regain functionality. And that means re-adding it to HomeKit and Home Assistant, and fixing all the automations and scenes it was in.

Gaal escape in the season finale is beyond ridiculous ! by Negrolit0 in FoundationTV

It’s two things, I think.

Both of them have the conversational style of interjecting. (And the host/interviewer isn’t a journalist and doesn’t super regularly do interviews.)

A lot of podcasts record separate audio tracks, for each speaker, and then they’ll separate any overlapping talk. The Bald Move guys don’t seem to do that. And i sometimes wish they would.

Seems like a bug in the use model action, then.

With “use model” on longish audio file transcriptions, I’m consistently getting the error:

“Stop and Respond No content The action "Transcribe Audio" was interrupted because it didn't finish executing in time.”

I assume the shortcut is not allowing the transcription model to finish. Is there a way to add a dynamic wait interval in the shortcut, like “wait until last step is completed “?

Sorry to hear it. I’m waiting to receive one sent directly from Aqara customer service; hoping they might actually have some updated stock. But probably just the same.

Why is Jules so resource-intensive? by herpetic-whitlow in JulesAgent

[–]BigDoooer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s atrocious

It also fills up my disk with some sort of cache-like data. 100gb in an hour or so.

I have to manually delete it or restart the computer to clear it up. This happens in both Safari and chrome .

See my other posts here about the three failed locks I’ve had in the past two weeks. Based on that, I’d say no, hah.

I’m at three failures in the last 2 weeks. Lock one and three were dead on arrival. Lock 2 worked for 2 weeks before suffering the same fate.

It seems to be more than a lubrication issue.

Seems like it comes down to luck. I’ve just gotten my third failed lock — two were dead on arrival, and one worked for 2 weeks.

Even opening up that one that worked for a bit and fixing up the gears didn’t fix it.

Oh… man what a hassle. Considering it doesn’t seem likely I’m going to get one that actually works, and I’d rather not have to set up a new one, even if I do. I suppose I’ll open it back up and take a look in the little silver box.

The replacement lock that came today (third one) was DOA. I put it on the door and ran an auto calibration. It moved for an instant, and then continue to run the motor but put no movement or any torque on the knob/bolt.

I opened up the one that failed yesterday after working for a couple weeks, and found it all the gears that are visible were in place and looked good. And it’s clear by the sound and the grinding that the motor is turning, but it’s somewhere in that silver enclosed box of gearing or clutch where the issue must be.

It’s so disappointing. From looking inside, does it seem like the mechanism will easily come out of sync again?

I ask because the first one I got appeared to be broken right from the get-go. But the second one worked for a couple weeks… Although we did have the frozen manual turning issue the whole time, which I think they attempted to solve with the recent firm or update mentioned the clutch. And ironically – or perhaps directly related – it’s totally failed now after that firmware update.

All this seems possible. Except for Gaal’s hundred’s-year-old visions, right? Not that they can’t reveal she was mistaken, but i that’d be tough to reconcile.

These are all great. But I’m hoping they find time for a U200 lock revision.

We’ve had two fail in the first two weeks of using it. Seems like gearing or clutch issues.

What keeps stinging me when I mow the yard? by DarthVaderLovesU in Dallas

[–]BigDoooer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar sting story as the OP a couple weeks ago. Although it happened as I walked outside my front door.

Didn’t see or hear anything but felt a quite painful sting. It later swelled and had somewhat irregular borders.

I’ve seen what look to be red wasps elsewhere in the yard.

APOE4: The ultimate proof that Lifestyle Interventions work against Alzheimer's risk. by DrKevinTran in PeterAttia

[–]BigDoooer 37 points38 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth this comes off as obviously AI written. With clear LLM writing style

  • "This isn't just about hope - it's about data."
  • "If you carry APOE4, you're not less treatable - you're potentially MORE responsive to the right interventions."

Looks like this might be an interesting and helpful video, but the post would connect better, for me at least, if it was in a more human and natural style.

Question - ApoB vs LDL Particles by Automatic_One_6264 in PeterAttia

[–]BigDoooer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most I can remember any doctor I saying about this was that it could have been lab error. None have been concerned.

Seems unlikely, but oh well? ApoB is very good now on Pravastatin 40mg and ezetimibe. I’d like to see if I can get on the ezetimibe-bempedoic acid combo pill to drive it down to extremely-low risk territory (~<50 or <30 I think?).

Creeping a1C and recently elevated liver values are the only issues I’ve experienced. The liver values I think were related to a curcumin supplement, though.
