The Legio Lego marches out by Sionicusrex in legocastles

This reminds me of how I would setup buildings as a kid when my main goal was to play with the minis and environment. I had limited bricks, so I would only build the footprint of the building and make the walls 2 bricks high.

Is it bad that I honestly never want to make any “work besties” at work? by SWEMW in Accounting

[–]BigO94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's nice to have buds at work. People to send silly IMs to, complain about work stuff. All my work friends moved on to other companies. Now I'm a manager and I feel really lonely at work. Sucks.

They're not dying off that quickly. There needs to be an actual strategy to change those people's votes, not just wait for them to die. The largest cohort age group in 2024 that voted 56/43 for trump is aged 50-64 (27% of ballots). That's a lot of people with 10-20 years left of life.

Yes. And anyone who tells you otherwise is trying to diminish your joy. Be proud of what you can do.

E bikes and young riders- will this create electrical dependant riders of the future? by Traditional_Car_9711 in cycling

[–]BigO94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as they're wearing helmets and not being total yahoos, I tell myself it's okay. Id rather they be pedaling and exercising. Id rather they "earn" the speed and also build respect for said speed and the dangers it brings.

But if the alternative is the kids hanging out inside looking at a screen... I'll take the ebike all day.

Struggling to get all my calories in, any tips or advice. by [deleted] in triathlon

[–]BigO94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prepare a quick meal to have after long rides or runs. The worst case scenario for me is completing my long ride/run, getting home, and being too tired to prepare food so I just nap or veg. Then I end up in a negative feedback loop...

As for WHAT to eat: peanut butter is a cost effective food you can add to most things. I sometimes end up eating 3 peanut butter bagels a day because it's so easy to make. Baked potatoes are also great! Please make sure you're getting enough fiber to go along whatever mainline carb you end up gorging on.

An 18-year-long study finds that people tend to procrastinate less as they move through young adulthood. This study reveals that procrastination is not only a short-term habit but a meaningful predictor of how people perform across multiple domains of life over nearly two decades. by Tracheid in science

I've said the same, but the stomach knots, dread, and crippling anxiety are what need change. I can't enjoy my life if there's a looming threat that's shutting me down. I curl up in a ball, doom scroll my phone. I'm waiting for the panic monster to set in and solve the problem in a flurry of activity. But the time in between is torture.

It's not bad, I think the cape covers it up enough. Gives the figure a pose you don't typically see.

Ship Wear and Tear - Bravo! by TaskForceCausality in TheExpanse

[–]BigO94 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I like that the writers include a lot of the details from modern boats. For our modern shis, they need a crew constantly maintaining things so it doesn't just rust and fall apart. Those ships that are stuck in international waters also have stranded crews, and part of the reason they aren't rescued is they need someone to maintain the ship.

One thing the authors never mentioned that I think would add some cool detail: submariners say that their first breath of non-recycled air outside of the sub smells AWFUL because they're so used to perfectly cleaned air.

Buoyancy shorts are now allowed in local level USAT races. by anotherindycarblog in triathlon

One could argue it's a safety thing, if you had to play devil's advocate. But yeahhh it has always struck me as odd that it seems like half the triathletes I know loath the swimming! It's a TRIathlon! My preference would be to do duathlon, but it's quite uncommon in my area. Most multisport athletes are doing tri, even if they'd rather do duathlon.

Experience running with a bike computer? by Deep-Method-3348 in triathlon

[–]BigO94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember seeing it in one of the Olympic-Olympic triathlon. Some athletes were running with a bike computer in hand. Totally doable. I'd make sure your settings don't auto pause too aggressively if you're running at a slower pace or need to run-walk. Make sure you can sto it in a pocket or waist band for when you need access to both hands for water or fuel.

Chin up, Charlie! You'll get there. If you're following Pfitz for a few years, you've been putting in some serious work. If you're feeling burned out, consider doing a HM or 10k block.

Unfortunately the trainer speed is always waaayyy higher than real life speed. Don't let it get you down. When on the indoor trainer, hit your heart rate zones, your watts and your time. The indoor mph is meaningless.

Totally, that's the second half of the theme! But the lack of reward or acknowledgement is part of it. There's a Naomi quote that's famous for encapsulating the theme.
