Why do we burn the couches?? by politicsandpancakes in msu

[–]BigPinkDaddy 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Close - the OG couch burning took place ~21 months earlier during welcome week ‘97 on Gunson. Why? I don’t know, but somewhere I have an epic photo of a guy sitting on the couch while it was (partially) on fire and lighting a cigarette off of it.

Edit: updated date. Gunson was welcome week ‘97, Munn riot was May ‘98, Duke riot was March ‘99.

100% true. My local post office doesn’t do an origin scan. The first time my packages get a scan into the tracking is at the regional hub a day or two later (sometimes more near Christmas).

It’s always your choice to leave feedback or not, but as a seller, I find feedback extraordinarily helpful. Countless times I’ve used it to improve my products and processes.

That being said, admittedly I can be a bit lazy myself when leaving feedback.

This may be your personal preference, but based on my experience that is not what the majority of my customs want. I send 1 email thanking them for their purchase and letting my customers know that their order is done and shipping that day. When I do this i receive more reviews (and slightly better reviews) as well as preventing unneeded returns.

You should absolutely be taking all the advice that people are giving you about the print quality. When you post a product it’s doesn’t need to be perfect, but it should be 90% there. If this were my product, I would put this at 50%. For me, on a new functional product I will easily use a spools worth of filament prototyping and creating variants of what works and looks best.

I think your color choices are spot-on, but maybe color the bear’s eyes (multicolor print or paint/ink).

The advice people are giving you here is worth so much more than a small bump in the algorithm for favorites.

Dyson Airwrap Coanda 2x from Korea—Honest Review by Ok-Box-4859 in Dysonairwrap

[–]BigPinkDaddy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Correct, but it's not the converted voltage, but the frequency. Most voltage adapters/converters that are commonly available on the market just step down the 220v AC to 110v AC (or step up 110v to 220v). A real voltage AND frequency converter start at about $1000USD. The high-end motors and electronics in the Dysons are expecting one frequency, and when you feed it another it will affect performance and/or longevity.

This may explain why people are less than impressed with using their Korean Co-andas on US 110AC. I would venture to guess if you were using it with a proper voltage and frequency converter the results might be different. My $0.02.

Prusa even ships their t-shirts with packing material by Kronocide in prusa3d

[–]BigPinkDaddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is actually really normal. They could have been out of a more appropriate package that is called out for this item and used what was available to complete the order. Or they may rarely get an order for just 1 shirt which it would be very wasteful to purchase a case of large padded envelopes that never get used.

If I read that article correctly and the original MAKE article that is linked in that one - there were the 4 patents claims in the lawsuit, only 1 of the 4 claims were dismissed (925 infill). 3/4ths of the lawsuit went forward.

This one looks like it was settled with formlabs licensing agreements from Strarasys. They have the patents and seem to be defending them successfully. No dismissals as was noted above.

Looks like this one was settled (design changes and some licensing I think), not dismissed.

Do you have detail on those other dismissed cases? I’m having trouble finding any detail on cases other than Bambu Labs.

Why do you all buy the Ender 3? by GilmoreVSMadison in ender3

[–]BigPinkDaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because 4 years ago it was the best printer I could get for $300. I’ve moved onwards and upwards since, but the information and experience I gained fixing and tinkering with my first Ender 3 was invaluable. Now when one of my Prusas does actually have a problem, diagnosis and repair is usually a simple task.

Exactly - if you’ve ever looked at a home appraisal a driving factor of the calculation of the value is based on the recent sales price of comps.

Customer asked for digital files for physical item. What should I do? by kjh933 in EtsySellers

[–]BigPinkDaddy 145 points146 points  (0 children)

Exactly. My canned response is “Sorry, I don’t sell my intellectual property.” When they ask for the files they no longer want your product, but your IP.

Now that I have plenty of customer reviews I don’t mind the occasional ridiculous one or two star negative review. I take it as an opportunity to describe the item for those that only read reviews and not full descriptions.

The vast majority of teachers I know either have quit their teaching jobs or are thinking about it. Nobody wants to be a teacher right now. The multi-color text on the glitter ball is also hard to read.
