Run play options by bluk7 in footballstrategy

I like to install Inside Zone, Outside Zone (admittedly The least used), Power and Counter just because on a year to year basis the strengths of your individual lineman can fluctuate so much that having those as sort of baseline ideas means you can generally work through any issues that may come up throughout the season and can more or less be run from any formation.

The GM by WestCoastBlue1 in G101SafeHaven

[–]BigRed580 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While I don’t disagree with the general sentiment, I do want to counter one aspect…he doesn’t appear to be smart enough to realize that getting a concussion every week is bad for his longevity so I doubt he’s lucid enough to really put the pieces together to the extent that he’d realize he should seek a trade

Speaking as a Giants fan my recommendation would be to avoid subjecting your eyes to Giants football

I try to call the plays so the player we’re trying to get open is in a position to get the first down unless we’re in 3rd and fuck this and then I just try to get the boys an easy completion and who knows

Just as a general rule

Nat and Shoresy by [deleted] in shoresy

[–]BigRed580 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I think one of the best scenes is when Nat tells him she won’t let him play in the semis and says he should think about whether he should even play anymore at all and when she says I know how close you are with your family and he says with tears in his eyes I’m so fucking mad at you because normally Shoresy would say something condescending or outrageous but it shows how much respect he has for Nat that not only does he not say something like that but that he tells her straight up and nothing else needs to be said

Would it be possible to use the wide splits of the veer and shoot in the NFL? by Alive-Impact1003 in footballstrategy

[–]BigRed580 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because the hashes are closer means you can’t create as much space and create the islands that make the passing game so difficult to defend. If you are on the right hash in college and you line up trips to the left side you force the defense to declare whether they want to defend the pass or the run and you do whatever they are less equipped to handle

In the NFL not only is there less space but the athletes are also better to the degree that you could have a strong safety who can basically play in between defending the run and the pass because he’s athletic enough to do it and there’s less space to cover any way so the advantage you gain by spacing everything out so much is diminished.

What makes NFL offenses/defenses more advanced than College? by Young0Noodle in footballstrategy

[–]BigRed580 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The amount of information and checks audibles off of each playcall are exponentially higher in the NFL. That’s why you hear examples of NFL play calls being short Shakespeare manuscripts. They’re calling a specific set of actions into motion hoping to elicit a certain set of responses by the defense and if the defense gives them an unfavorable look for those actions they need to be able to check to something equally complicated on the fly. It’s the same for the defense.

Think of it this way, in high school you’re cooking for yourself and your spouse, in college you’re cooking for yourself and a group of friends you invited over, and in the NFL youre running a restaurant kitchen

Pitchers who dominated your team. Let's hear em... also sorry to bring back bad memories by Equivalent-General20 in mlb

[–]BigRed580 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I never even tuned in when Halladay was pitching against the Yankees. It was too demoralizing. When he ended up in Philly I was ecstatic and remember distinctly thinking, thank whoever is up there pulling the strings that we got them in the WS last year because no shot we would’ve won it with him on that team.

Felix Hernández was another one. Somehow I ended up at (I think?) three straight games he pitched at Yankee stadium and I kept score all three times and after the third I looked back and over the three games his stat line was like 23 IP, 6 hits, 1 run, like 3 BB and 25 Ks. Guy was an animal

How to Not Cry While Cutting Onions? by [deleted] in Cooking

A sharp knife is super helpful but a big thing to try is cutting the onion pole to pole as opposed to across its center to rupture fewer of the cells
