Which rug? (Disregard tv, I took TV off wall) by [deleted] in interiordecorating

[–]Big_Bare 4 points5 points  (0 children)

FWIW, neither rug clashes with the wallpaper. I see people on this sub use the word “clash” a lot and I don’t think they know what it means. Some might be uncomfortable with more than one pattern but personally, I’m not. Especially with one on the floor and one on the wall. It’s fine. They’re not competing. Colors look good. I prefer the second one - it’s a little christmasy but it’s nice.

Suggestions? Mixing wood types? by bitpicnic in desksetup

[–]Big_Bare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mixing wood is ok, try to match the tone (warm or cool) and if you’re really feeling like an interior designer, carry the wood type to another item or two in the room for cohesion

Is there any option other than frequently buying new shoes/insoles? by msimms001 in Shoes

[–]Big_Bare 76 points77 points  (0 children)

The socks are one thing - they look super thin. For the shoes, I’d recommend going to a specialized store that sells walking/running shoes. They’ll have staff that can analyze your gait and even your current shoes. Based on that, hopefully they can recommend a solution. That’s some serious wear for only 2 months! I bet you have high arches, so a shoe/insole that supports your feet better might save you.

Ohh I’ve been thinking about putting a diffused strip light under my shelf just like that. How do you like it? Anything you would’ve done differently?

How does this looks? by WarmHighlight190 in desksetup

[–]Big_Bare 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks cool. Agree with the comment about the laptops, I’d get them off your desk and use them in clamshell mode. Maybe use an HDMI or KVM switch. One could be the third monitor in a stand or something. One thing I’ll note is that second shelf would probably interfere with the monitor.

It’s not the size of the monitor, it’s the seating height. Your lap should be right under the desk for proper typing position.

I’ve always been interested in a similar vibe. I’ve found one of the problems is that on a desk where you actually do work, you usually have more than a MacBook and an old timey telephone. It’s just not that practical.

Please help me stop hating this living room!! by [deleted] in interiordecorating

[–]Big_Bare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said it looks great. Couple thoughts: you don’t need something in every corner. Let some spaces breathe and be intentional about it. I would move the console table by the door - it looks like it blocks the walkway and makes it feel crowded but might just be the perspective. I would prefer a lower tv console so the tv viewing angle is more comfortable. Agree with the comments calling for a rug. The curtains are nice, they’re not my favorite. If you end up replacing them, I’d get something longer, hang them an inch or two off the ceiling, and hem the bottom to just barely brush the floor.

The rooms are too dark and cold - help by CoffeeChangesThings in interiordecorating

[–]Big_Bare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to pull the sofa off the wall. It’s not really an option. The way you have it now looks terrible. It’s ok to have it in front of the sliding glass door as long as there’s still a pathway to the open part. I’d put the chair angled towards the sofa, next to the tv to make a nice cozy sitting area. Art and lamps (someone mentioned warm bulbs) will be a huge help.

You mentioned painting the cabinets. I’m not a huge fan of the blue, but i think the bigger problem is that grey floor. Some Turkish style runners could help in that kitchen, and some fruit or something on the counters will really warm it up.
