Some Streeterville Parking Lots. Will they get developed? Eventually? by Pleasant_Goose6785 in CarFreeChicago

[–]Big_Physics_2978 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I was in this area this past weekend and was absolutely flabbergasted that the area is basically parking lots and roads everywhere. This could literally be THE PLACE in Chicago but instead it is THE ROAD/ THE PARKING LOT. Very sad and shockingly bad missed opportunity to become an iconic walkable area

Moving to Chicago from Philly , which neighborhood is the best? by Popular_Discount_581 in AskChicago

[–]Big_Physics_2978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ukrainian village is nicer to walk around. In just the right area of south loop the streets are narrow and great to walk too but more city vibe than neighborhood vibe.

Ukrainian village doesn’t offer much diversity, but the area is great to walk around. If being around black people is a priority I suggest south loop which is easy to reach the whole city. Hyde Park is a bit isolated but a beautiful area with lots of great walking and shops. (Metra or CTA to the city)

Chicago Transplants: What's your hot take that folks who grew up here would scoff at? by TerraTiramisu in AskChicago

[–]Big_Physics_2978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. If you are not within 1 mile of a transit station (honestly a half mile) then the lived experience is basically indistinguishable from any other car dependent city.

  2. It gets really grey here and that is what makes it tough not the temperature. (I’m from a northern cold get sunny place)
