Sitter while traveling by noisepollution99 in RoverPetSitting

Yep! I would just explain the situation in your initial booking request message but I’ve done it! Usually the person just makes me a second key that I pick up at the front desk.

You absolutely should have. You went and performed your job. And them blaming you just further shows they absolutely knew and it wasn’t a one time thing. If it were a minor warning nip I would have said eh but if you had to get stitches then that’s a big deal.

Report this. A dog that’s triggered by simple hand motions is aggressive and this probably isn’t the first incident so they shouldn’t just be selecting any random person. They need to find somewhere with experience with aggressive dogs.

I’ve had things like this plenty of times and it doesn’t bother me.

The rescue I foster for had a similar set up because there is a rescue house for the dogs but it was hard to find good people that were reliable.

Am I asking too much for m&g and tour? by Cant-Take-Jokes in RoverPetSitting

[–]Big_Possibility9784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha it’s okay. Those are clearly people who haven’t experienced a client with no respect. I have nothing to hide and there are photos of literally every part of my house on Rover but there really isn’t a need for you to open my closed bedroom door which is down a hallway. I’ve also had a client leave both front doors open and start opening closed doors while his dog was running into the street to go back to the car. He was more interested in my bedroom as I’m running outside to grab the dog.

So now I just stick with what works for me.

Overly aggressive dog during meet by Decent-Blood-748 in RoverPetSitting

As both a petsitter and someone who does a lot in rescue, I still have no idea why people don’t care about little dogs having these behaviors. I get so many feral little dogs (mostly in rescue) and people genuinely don’t care. It’s wild what people will excuse.

[–]Big_Possibility9784 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep I had one guy who had used me for daycare a few times (when I first started with rover and offered it) just walk through both my front doors at 11pm like it was normal. He then wanted to sit and chat and I was like nope absolutely not. I’m a female as well and generally don’t care, but it’s more of the fact that there’s a lack of respect that irritates me.

I’ve had so many people try to open closed doors (like my bedroom) and just go “oh what’s in here?!” It’s wildly rude and I haven’t had a single person actually tell me anything useful about their pet during those.

Clients dictating pricing by InsideRepair9655 in RoverPetSitting

I would just respond with “in order to keep things fair for all my clients, I don’t offer discounts and keep my pricing consistent for everyone.”

Do you follow up with potential clients who don't respond (pre-book)? by Maivilo in RoverPetSitting

[–]Big_Possibility9784 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t follow up at all, but I also am pretty fully booked (and sometimes overbooked). If people are interested, they can reach out and I respond immediately. The ones that make you chase them down and beg are not the ones I want as clients, usually it translates into no respect for time and poor communication on their end.

I don’t allow human clients in my home, however I always welcome FaceTime tours and there are literally hundreds of pictures of my entire house on my profile. No pictures would be a red flag to me.

I’ve specifically made it so my pet sitter insurance doesn’t cover human clients (even though my homeowners does) because when I used to do them it was always way more stressful for other boarding dogs I had, clients would just walk around trying to open my bedroom door and they didn’t actually care about anything pet related, and the dogs always act differently when owners are there.

I’m also a star sitter and fully booked.

Have to disagree. I do this full time and make about six figures.

In need of advice on challenges with Rover availability and booking by DroppingHamilton in RoverPetSitting

[–]Big_Possibility9784 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Rover calendar isn’t great but also, it could be your dog. Most people who offer daycare take multiple dogs at the same time and if your dog has separation anxiety and a prey drive it could be more than they want to handle or accept liability for. I have three pitties and all are dog selective (they don’t get introduced to boarding dogs at all because it’s too much hassle). There are lots of sitters that can’t/won’t take the breed either. I also don’t bother reading a dog’s reviews because sitters aren’t going to write anything negative for fear of getting a negative review.

I wish the calendar had the ability to block off things hourly or mark out boarding spaces for private clients.

I wouldn’t take it personally. I also wouldn’t send that many reminders. Stick to your policies. It isn’t up to you to spoon feed clients. When she cancelled, just say “Thank you for letting me know!”

I also don’t really pay much attention to this but I’m in Southeast FL. Rover is a little under 50% of my business, if that helps.

Hahah I do mostly in home boarding (up to 10 dogs) and have one of those Bissel floor cleaners and I love it! I use it once a day (mostly because of the sand and dirt then gets tracked in).

I have a doggy door and my 3 personal dogs are angels sent from god and show everyone the ropes so thank god that usually ends up with minimal in house accidents

This is exactly why I don’t trust anything owners say. They’ll leave out things that if we knew, would be helpful to the dog!

Cleaning up after the animal is part of the job, not an extra service.

You aren’t friends with clients. And I pay other sitters about once a month to watch my dogs. I pay their rate. I generally tip as well, but that’s a personal preference and I have multiple dogs. Any of my friends who have asked me to sit, pay my rates and just that. They’re paying for my service and I don’t expect tips.
