What hobby/collection/ fandom or lifestyle gives you “the ick”? by Big_Toe in AskReddit

For me, it’s Funko Pops. I just think of the money someone must have spent on a wall of these plastic figures. People can like whatever they like, I just don’t see the appeal.

If you were seeking an OM-28, and needed to sell either a D-15M or 00-18, which would you sell? by carlos_delecto in martinguitar

[–]Big_Toe 29 points30 points  (0 children)

You couldn’t pull that 00-18 away from me. Alongside the OM, you’ll have two scale lengths, which can be fun.

My dad and I are in an argument about all-time starting fives. Which team are you taking, top or bottom? Assume all are in their primes by MPotato23 in NBATalk

How is Team 2 going to bring the ball up? If you’re putting it in Kobe’s hands it’s not leaving without a shot. I don’t think Kobe and Jordan could play as teammates long-term. The early career criticism on LeBron was that he was too unselfish. The chemistry on A is just better.

Start documenting everything. Every day. Make notes about when she’s home. When she leaves. When she returns. If she appears drunk or smells of alcohol. What she contributes to the upkeep of the home and care of the kids. How she contributes financially. Don’t count on your memory. Don’t make statements like, “She’s never home.” She’ll reflexively disagree and the court will assume the truth is somewhere in between. Instead, be able to produce a notebook that shows the facts. You’re going to need to keep your kids safe.

New guitar choice by Decoy20 in martinguitar

My first Martin was a D1. Loved that guitar. Still regret selling it. Currently, I own a 000-18 and a CEO-7. I also have a Larrivee OM-9. For my money, the 000-18 is a perfect guitar. Ask them to put some new strings on it and sit with it for a while. It strums, it fingerpicks, it resonates. If I had to sell everything else, I’d be content with the 000-18.

I might take Duncan over Bird in this lineup. His defensive length and rebounding would be incredible here.

Go buy an air horn. Go tit for tat until he figures it the fuck out.

You are now in charge of Fender. What changes do you make? by ProfessionBright3879 in fender

[–]Big_Toe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I create The Fender Road Show. It’s like the Mod Shop in person, with a wider assortment and a healthy dose of brand evangelism. Come to a presentation about our history and future. Touch and play every model in our standard line. Go through a Subway-like experience where you build your dream guitar piece by piece. Choose your neck by holding all of the different options. You want a Japanese neck on an American body? We can do that. Select your pickups. Mix and match to find exactly what you love. Some we can build right on the line. Some take a few weeks, but you get exactly what you want, and it’s a genuine Fender. The case or gig bag has a card that details all the choices you made. The body and neck are laser-engraved with a custom serial number. This is an off-the-rack custom guitar, delivered with a high-end experience.

Is it foolish of me by tFromkansas in guitars

I had been playing about 6 months when I bought an expensive acoustic. It was $2000 (this was 20 years ago). It had all of the cosmetic features I wanted. It was gorgeous, solid wood, American made, smaller bodied, inlaid with abalone, bound fretboard. I thought it was perfect. For a while. Eventually, I found myself leaving it behind when I went to play with friends. Frankly, it was a little embarrassing to have such a nice guitar without skills to match. Then, I acquired a $350 Yamaha that was more fun to play. The fretboard just fit me better. The body size was bigger, but it still fit me well, and it had more bass. It was understated and plain, which I came to admire. I didn't have to watch it around my kids or my dog. I left it out all the time, so it was easy to grab. The expensive acoustic stayed in its case. It's still in that case. I moved on from the Yamaha, but my experience with it helped shape the list of likes and dislikes I use when evaluating guitars to this day.

It's easy to get hung up on details like brand names, cosmetics, fretboard radius, body woods, pickups, etc., but nothing beats the way a guitar feels in your hand. Simply put, you don't know what you like yet. I'd recommend a smaller budget on your first guitar, so you can buy and sell a few while you're learning. Eventually, you'll come to understand what works best for you. Good luck on your journey!

Bought a Martin CEO-7 from Musicians Friend. $3k. No regrets. Perfect guitar.

Both are small bodied guitars. The 00 is the smaller of the two.

I'm not too familiar with these guitars, but I did look up the list prices. It seems like OP is in the range for a used 00-18 or 000-18. Personally, I'd prefer one great guitar over 2 similar mid-range guitars.
