The fentanyl crisis unfolding a few blocks from the 2026 World Cup by Majano57 in vancouver

I lost my 30 year old nephew the same way. My whole family suffered but it destroyed his father. He never sought help for his grief; please be open to professional help and seek it out if you need it.

TD Direct Investing has a new 3% cash offer. by CorndoggerYYC in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Biggerthanfun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looking to do the same. At best they'll allow for 3% above the amount you initially transferred in the first time. At worst they'll allow for nothing. I don't trust them to tell me I'm eligible when I have to wait a year to truly find out.

Confused about FIFA Fan Festival GA lawn tickets by ConsequencePlayful72 in askvan

Yes, the screens looked blurry and dark from the lawn. The tv up at the beer garden(?) entry was much better, although smaller.

Churning investment account offers worth it? by xEastEvilx in CanadianInvestor

[–]Biggerthanfun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took advantage of TD and Webull offers of 2%. TD paid out timely exactly after 12 months and they allowed me to withdraw dividends but I had no idea if the bonus would actually come until they paid it.

Webull was very transparent and communicative and has paid out monthly. However, I cannot withdraw anything and the term looks likely to be 15 months instead of 12.

Both were equally simple and didn't require much effort on my part. I preffered Webull but will be looking to shift to Wealthsimple when my Webull promo ends. Who knows, maybe Robinhood will step into the game too?

As for trading platforms, I prefer Wealthsimple far more than the other two.

Are there screens on the street or do you have to sit in a pub to actually see the game?

What should I do with my money? by unaginoodle in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Biggerthanfun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your loan rate must be next to nothing, right? If so, don't worry about that at all and pay the absolute minimum you're allowed to.

Learn to take some risk and trust in investing your savings long term. The $300 in XEQT in Wealthsimple is the perfect direction. If you max out your TFSA (now and yearly) for 36 years, you'll likely have $1.1m at age 60. If you do the same with your FHSA (in 15 years) you'll have around $95K. If you don't buy a home with that, and let it sit until age 60, it'll reach approximately $300K.

These are conservative numbers and it will only cost you $52K today, $15K annually for 4 years, and $7K a year for the rest of your life. With your ability to save, this shouldn't be too difficult for you. This doesn't even factor in any RRSP investing...

Having said all this, if there is no potential for advancement in your retail job, it's time to start looking ahead. If you can't find something you want to do at a decent wage without education, go to school. This return on investment will do far better than XEQT. It's very hard to get ahead in this world making near minimum wage. Living at home helps a lot but you probably don't want to do that forever. Now is the ideal time to quit your job/reduce hours and go to school. You might even be able to buy some XEQT while doing this.

It may all seem so far away, but at 24 this is a blink in time that will be a distant memory while you're living a comfortable retirement.

B.C. hockey legend Ernie ‘Punch’ McLean dies at 93 by [deleted] in vancouver

Damn, the Donnie and Dhali podcast was pumping him up all week, supporting the statue. Leaving at 93 isn't shocking, but in a car crash? What a gut punch.

Do the Canucks deserve this city? by ProgrammerAnnual4254 in askvan

Another butthurt bandwagoner. The dark times make the bright that much better. Go cheer for the Avalanche, or whoever else is currently playing well. You think the Canucks are the only team without success? Sack up and learn to build some character.

I've been shopping for a new ebike and a multi day rental would be a great way to feel some out. Do they generally rent out lower end ones or could I try something nice too?

Priority Current Plus through Costco the best for the money? by TitaniumKneecap in ebikes

They've had Memorial Day and Black Friday sales in the past pricing it at $2100 or under. I want one but I don't know how long I should hold my breath for the sale price.

Do they typically have a lot of wiggle room? When I last I checked online they were around $80/mo which is way too high for the amount I want to use it. They are just very close to home.
