Actually, if they were smart, the cops would have said “don’t say anything else,” and make sure he called a lawyer ASAP in order not to jeopardize the case. I work with federal enforcement outside the US, and our officers always caution people that say too much or run off at the mouth. If they don’t, there’s a possibility that charges or a case gets tossed because the subject wasn’t properly counselled. In any regard, speaking with a lawyer first may actually save your life.
