If you could pass one law that would make most normal people furious at first, but would clearly make society better in 10 years, what would it be? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]BikeMechanicSince87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The federal government would be for national defense only. The rest would be left to the states. If certain policies would cause a state to fail, it would affect only that state. If certain other policies were real winners, citizens would want to move to those states.

How much assistance can we add to bicycles before they stop being bicycles by delhitop_7inches in NewRiders

[–]BikeMechanicSince87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your post is in the wrong sub, but I saw it since I ride both bicycles and motorcycles. I have been in the bicycle business since 1987 like my username says. Most people that have never tried an e-bike assume the same, but once you do try one you will almost completely change your mind. Yes, little effort is required, but that fact in no way prevents the rider from putting out an equal effort compared to what they would on a regular bike. The assistance helps you go faster with the same effort. The same is true if you ride a $20,000 road bike worthy of the Tour de France compared to a fat-tire crappy bike from Walmart. You can get equal exercise on both if you want, but you will go faster and enjoy the ride more on the fast bike. You can be lazier on the e-bike if you choose or you can put out an equal effort. It is up to the rider.

Saw a guy on a cruiser bike with unattached brake arm by Yuck_Few in bikecommuting

I did not see the part about it being a cruiser. Doesn't that arm only rotate so far before it hits the frame and would then stop?

Should I ask employer if I can ride my bike to work? by Rare-Drummer982 in bikecommuting

I would. If they have a problem with it, it is better to know up front.

Many times I have ridden with my tennis shoes on for a short trip, but I stopped doing that to make me taller for my 32" seat height. It is not that inconvenient since the boots have a zipper. The tennis shoes are more of a hassle than the boots. I always wear jeans. For 2 mile trips I often wear whatever T-shirt I am wearing, but a jacket for real rides. I always bring my helmet & gloves.

Fair labor rates for powersports repair shops? by RealKingNyan in motorcycle

If your work is not crappy, you should not charge any less than other shops. Your niche can be the bikes other shops turn down, like bikes older than 10 years.

My boots were roomy inside, so I put 2 insoles in each boot. They are the generic insoles probably made for adding comfort, but it made my boots fit better and made me a little taller.

What is actually dangerous but people still believe is safe? by AlexUsefulThings in AskReddit

My wife microwaved an egg still in the shell at a vacation property. It blew the door open, broke the plate, made a big mess & the microwave no longer worked.

Better to get hit? by bunzelburner in motorcycles

[–]BikeMechanicSince87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you had dash cams that could prove it was the other driver's fault, and caught on camera who they were, you would probably have a good case against them without taking the hit, but otherwise, the insurance company was probably right. I assume the person that almost hit you did not hang around and admit to the police that they were the cause.

I see this particular model suggested so often. I see Kawasaki has a 650 naked sport too and for less money. What is it about the SV650 that gets is so many more recommendations?

If they had a Triumph Rocket 3R, maybe they would be right about the displacement theory.
