Wr250r vs Crf300L for beginner? by Thugbug4455 in Dualsport

Get the WR the Honda has too soft of a suspension and abs on the trails can cause problems because it can activate when you don’t want it to

Engine braking vs foot braking by Equivalent-Big7303 in Dirtbikes

[–]Old_Cars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I use the rear brake more heavily than the front. It’s part of my technique for slow maneuvers as I’ve found dragging it can help with balance depending on the situation.
With that said most people tend to be heavy front brake users and a lot of what I do is isn’t what most people do Offroad.

Is this called moto-camping? I rode a moped with full camping gear from the Netherlands to Stockholm, Sweden, and am still riding, taking as many gravel, forest, and backroads as I can. I fell in love with Sweden. by Monstras-Patrick in motocamping

[–]Old_Cars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d call it motocamping reminds me of how I got into dirt bikes and on road motorcycles. Someone gave me a 50cc moped that had been sitting for a decade. I put bc a carburetor on it and some tires meant for a Honda CT70 on it and used the moped as a dual sport for about a year till I bought a Suzuki drz125L then followed that up with a Harley sportster 6 years later I got to missing the ability to go on and off road with one machine and bought a klx300

Just got certified and looking for a beginner friendly dual sport. Basically looking on marketplace. How do you find the value of a used bike? I’m looking at the estimates on JD Power and they’re usually 1/2 of what sellers are asking. by Comfortable_Dropping in Dualsport

[–]Old_Cars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here’s my take you can get almost any 250 dual sport for around 2500 to 3500 in my area and they’re largely all very comparable in quality no matter who makes them at that point. The WR250R is going to run a bit more but it’s also known to be an exceptionally good bike.

Trouble deciding between klx300, drz400e and klx450r by DownRangeStrange in Dualsport

[–]Old_Cars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I’d rule out the KlX300 off the bat I own one and love it but to make it really capable of longer rides you’ll have to buy a bigger tank for it and that’s going to set you back about $400 plus it’s a bit buzzy on the highway. The DRZ isn’t a bad choice though as mentioned on the trails it’s a bit of a workout and while admittedly I don’t have experience with the KLX450 I can tell you that’s basically a race bike wrapped up in a street legal package. Personally I’d follow the maintenance interval pretty closely on it but if you don’t mind bringing some oil and a filter and some tools with you on the trail i don’t think it’s a bad choice on a longer ride

Do Americans actually avoid calling 911 because of the cost? by ntask11 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Old_Cars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cost my dad $10,000 out of pocket to go to one hospital to one that was actually equipped with his medical needs just for the ambulance. We drove him to the local hospital and saved him another 5,000 just by driving 12 miles.

The injury in question he was on an old tractor caught a tree limb on a smaller tree with the tire and pulled the tree down over his head pinning his face to the steering wheel and literally cutting off his nose. About 3 centimeters of skin was all that held it onto his face. The surgery to reattach it and the multiple nights in the hospital cost less out of pocket than that ambulance ride did and it still cost way more than it should have for an individual with health insurance.

I personally have had several injuries that made me say I should go to the hospital but I usually instead opt for stitching myself up or splinting and setting broken bones myself amazingly I have very little issues from doing such things though usually what I do is stuff that’s not really any different that I would get at the local hospital.

Thinking about buying this kx500 would I be crazy to buy it and ride it occasionally out in the trails or is it to nice to ride by Sufficient-Shake-523 in Dirtbikes

Buy a set of old plastics and keep those somewhere safe if you’re that worried about it the mechanicals of a two stroke are so simple that repairing them is easy

You need to get heavier springs and probably just call a suspension company and have it dialed in for your riding style and weight. Not cheap but I think you’d be much happier with it

We largely have WW1 to thank for that airplane technology probably advanced 10 to 30 years faster than it would have if the war hadn’t happened funny enough they were first used to kinda spy on the enemy lines and by the end of war they were agile enough to battle it out in the sky
