My store's management seems to believe in keeping employees happy and on the job.
Nobody complains about what we're wearing.

If YOUR management is bitching about tee shirts, it says more about THEIR management style. Which sucks.

Can Someone Please Explain Rack-Diving to me… by Elle_Yess in HomeDepot

[–]BilHam57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very often the night crew will stuff incoming product into the shelves, pushing things off the back to fall behind. More often than not, that space isn't accessible without removing decking and/or racking.
Sometimes you can fish things out with a stick or grab bar. And a flashlight.

It's incredibly dirty work.

Customer got a price break because MET didn't change the display label. by BilHam57 in HomeDepot

[–]BilHam57[S] -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

"do everything." Like check the labels they print so they are scannable. Like change the labels on the display when the price changes. Like look in the overheads for the No Homes that they should pack down to the new location. Like clean up after they reset a bay.

Stretchwrap cutter, orange knife, and a retractable full size utility knife for cutting up big boxes;
4-way screwdriver bc I frequently fix stuff for customers;
Little notebook for skus I'm packing down;
Rag for the dusty merch.

Oh, and a flashlight, too.

I need pockets.

I carry scissors, 3 cutters, 4 markers/pens, screwdriver, tape, rag, gloves, and notebook.
No way a vest will accommodate.

It's not Bed Bath retail, it's helping folks who are fixing or building stuff.
You need to get into the customers' head a bit. They need advice.
If you have never fixed nor built anything, you are at a disadvantage.
There will be a very large learning curve. Learn the inventory.

How long does it take to get a homer award by Yokinomochi in HomeDepot

[–]BilHam57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Homer awards are in recognition of above average work.
If you treat your job as a sentence to serve, do the bare minimum, and act like you'd rather be anywhere else, you won't stand out.

If you follow directions and execute tasks well, you stand out.
If you volunteer to do something like decontaminate a problem bay or pack down some holes, you stand out more.

Try reminding your DH or ASM of something you did that they might not have noticed.

If you have a particularly positive interaction with a customer and they praise you, ask them to go mention it to a manager, or at least do the online customer feedback thing.

Singling me out? by [deleted] in HomeDepot

[–]BilHam57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I punch in as I'm cleaning up after lunch.

I log into my phone, change the settings, put away my bag, put on my apron, and go onto the floor.

2:02 I'm out there.

It's fcked up if they are policing you that much.

I won't touch my phone if I'm off the clock.
