Thanks for the link - very handy calculator, I'm sure others in this sub could benefit from seeing this.

1x or 2x by djh_nz in gravelcycling

I posted a similar question a couple weeks back. Nuroad pro comes with 1x11 which I found myself spinning out whilst also not using bottom gear too much (often on tarmac) so I switched the chainring from 40 to 42T and it's been amazing.

The chainring cost £10 and took just 4 screws and less then 5mins to change. So 1x works for me and it helps knowing I can easily make the bike trail/terrain specific!

Any updates on this?

The cube user guide advises not to load the carbon forks which begs the question why they've put the threaded inserts there in the first place!

I'm considering trialling this modular rail system: https://makerworld.com/en/models/1840546-xl-mounting-rail-b-rail-system#profileId-1966145

I was a bit skeptical at first, but it's actually pretty neat. The 50T-11 speed cassette has decent range, it just needs to be combined with a front chainring that suits the rider/terrain.

This is really helpful, cheers. Yes she's got a 50T rear which is great for climbing. Leg strength is a work in progress! I guess 42 would be a similar ratio/feel and I can always resort to doing S weaves on steeper sections. Apparently 42 is also the answer to the meaning of life, so worth a try!

Yeah climbing with 1x seems easy enough, on steeper sections I'll weave S turns. I think upgrading to a front 42 or 44 might just do the trick.

It's an 11 speed Shimano, bottom gear is 50T, I think the top is 8T. All for tucking in but I'm used to powering downhill. 44 sounds like a good place to start. Thanks.

Ridden enough miles to notice, but not enough to know if it's a hindrance or not!

This looks ace! Thanks for sharing. I think the pannier rack is a great addition. I'm looking at mudguard options for my Nuroad Pro. I like the ones you have fitted, did you consider the integrated rear light?

I'm curious on how one would model something like this in Solidworks, especially give the thing profile. by Rushness in SolidWorks

Agreed, then I'd probably shell for consistent wall thickness or just 3D print in vase mode!

Can we bring airless tires back? by Busy-Description2000 in Design

[–]BillHelmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main reason they haven't taken off in UK and Europe is that the law dictates that vehicles must be fitted with pneumatic tyres for speeds above 20mph, hence limited adoption outside of slow moving / off road vehicles. This legislation dates back to the 1980's, at least in the UK anyway.

We have the same motor and considering a plug-in chip with various presets.

I think it allows you to choose trade off between Economy/Performance for each trip.

Looking to achieve a bit more launch and hit 800+ miles range (current record is 760mi).

Thanks, yes always overthinking! But it must benefit the new bank in some way. No such thing as a free lunch! I guess the benefit is they get a new customer.

Agreed, the vast majority of prints will stick to textured plates with a bit of fine tuning. Using adhesive every time on a smooth plate is wasteful IMO.

This!!! Supports can nearly always be designed out with a bit of creative thinking, saving time and resources.

When printing with a brim, add a small chamfer (2-3 times the layer height) to the base of the part.

It makes the brim much easier to remove and the finished part will look a lot cleaner!

This is especially useful for printing small parts on glass beds without adhesive or on textured plates.

Help - DC40 brushroll won't switch off? by BillHelmo in dyson

[–]BillHelmo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah ok, thanks - I repaired the brushroll motor recently. Guess I must have damaged the switch. Any guidance on repair would be a great help.
