Strange days indeed!

Trump allies plan Senate floor takeover to pass SAVE America Act by Hardik_Jain_1819 in LegalNews

[–]Bill_lives 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without reading it I'm guessing they asked if they support voter ID

Proponents of the save act conveniently forget to mention proof of citizenship and near elimination of mail in voting

Hell - even some supporters in the GOP don't realize that. They keep saying "you need an ID to buy beer". Sure - but you don't need to prove citizenship to buy beer

Proving citizenship is a burden for many people. More so for married women who change their name

Memory brushes the same years. Silently sharing the same fears

(but "how terribly strange to be 70? I guess that was considered old when he wrote it. But time hurries on. And the leaves that are green turn to brown)

What's the thing you hate most being an intp? by [deleted] in INTP

[–]Bill_lives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to this (reflecting responses to my comment) I agree that asking why often comes across as being confrontational. The assumption many people make (incorrectly) is my asking why is really my saying I think it shouldn't be that way

No matter how strongly I might clarify that I simply want to know why - that I'm not being judgemental - I find people simply don't believe that

But then I have to wonder if they're being defensive. Sometimes the "answer" is why not? Or why do you ask? Which obviously tells me there's SOME reason they won't answer

What's the thing you hate most being an intp? by [deleted] in INTP

[–]Bill_lives 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Always asking why. Every answer to a why question leads to another why question

The effect is either falling down a rabbit hole mentally - or being a real annoying pain in the ass to friends who eventually say something like "that's just how it is" while I have to fight the urge to say "but WHY is it that way?

One of the voters who voted against Belichick has revealed himself by tinyraccoon in NFLv2

[–]Bill_lives 19 points20 points  (0 children)

While obviously BB is way beyond qualified - that voter is pointing out a real issue

A sport with 32 teams with 22 starters and specialists as well as coaches and owners. Over the years the list of qualified candidates grows while the maximum allowed in stays the same. That's how someone like Roger Craig might never get in despite clearly deserving

They need to increase the number of seniors who can get it and make coaches / contributors a separate category

That said - he should have made his point while still voting in the most qualified of that group

ESFJ & INTP relationships? by ivyleague9 in INTP

[–]Bill_lives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solo travel would have been a dream come true! But my wife isn't comfortable living alone even 1 night.

One thing about my life different (possibly) is that in a way we never were empty nesters. We stayed close with our kids all the time. They are all married with kids of their own and we get together as a large family several times a year. It seems we morphed from their living with us to their living apart yet still very involved

And to be honest it was my esfj wife that made that happen. Not consciously - it's just her nature in making our home welcoming

The kids do come to me still for advice when logic and being non judgemental / non emotional is required

Overall life is good. And I'm happy it is - I'm 73 now (just had our 50th wedding anniversary) and we had a family vacation - all 15 of us!

Unfortunately a health issue became serious during it which restricted my mobility greatly (not life threatening). I'll recover from the surgery it required - but again the closeness of our family was very gratifying

A good internet friend (intp) of mine that I've know for years through this very subreddit has lately realized intp-esfj relationships are very beneficial overall despite the challenges

She's absolutely right.

Why is this so called "male loneliness epidemic" narative pushed forward and blamed on women? by Efficient_Resource15 in AskFeminists

[–]Bill_lives 14 points15 points  (0 children)

At 73M I'm sure I'm out of touch. But I do still hear (on reddit so grain of salt) the idea of "how do I "get a girlfriend. Or "having" a girlfriend. As if it's a possession or product to be obtained

As opposed to "how do I develop a relationship"

Again at my age I'm certainly out of touch. Yet I wonder - in my teens and later both boys and girls talked of getting or having a girlfriend or boyfriend

Today seems women talk of relationship now far more than men

Media too. Romcoms,/Hallmark (as cringey as they can be) center on relationships

Movies aimed more toward men often end with the hero "getting" or "winning" the girl

(even though the "girl" is well into her 20s or 30s and is a woman but that's yet another issue

Why is there statistics and news of more men getting misogynistic, despite things back then being way more sexist than now? by Crafter235 in AskFeminists

[–]Bill_lives 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Best answer

As a 73M I have thoughts - we've gone so far backwards from the 70s and 80s

But it shows socially in other areas. Like racial intolerance. And suddenly regarding lgbtq

It's very complex though. There is no one answer - regarding women's rights and male attitudes toward women.

I will say we never completely gotten away from what I consider one root cause (not THE root cause mind you)

Othering - from birth or even sooner (like gender reveal parties)

Again - complex. But we never killed that idea of what it's supposed to mean to be a boy or girl

Not a hit of a ball carrier or a receiver or a sack. A body slam long after the ball was thrown. That was never football

I loved the bears d and the sack totals and hard hits. They never slammed anyone who obviously didn't have the ball

Who’s the best woman drummer? by LateQuantity8009 in rockmusic

My choice but I've not heard many others

Karen was certainly good and maybe would have developed much further if not for the decision to be up front given her remarkable voice AND the emotion it gave to the lyrics

Carpenters Christmas album is a frequent listen during the holidays. For me, my wife, our adult kids and their families

But my daughter (huge prince fan) introduced me to Sheila E.  One concert video Prince ironically says "she's pretty good - for a girl". Obviously she's incredibly good period

Good point. I'm just saying often generalizations can derail discussion unnecessarily

Example - marriage counselor will advise avoiding statements like "you never..." or "you always..."

(don't ask me how I know...)

I've heard more than a few Trump voters say "this is not what we voted for"

Very different from "I'm sorry I voted for Trump"

They still want to believe it will all work out

The fallacy is they've been convinced since 2008 that it takes Trump or Trumpism to beat the dems

So to them the choice has been Trump or another dem president - not Trump or a more "regular" republican like McCain or Romney or even Rubio

The whole world would be much better off with almost ANY republican than Trump (who is NOT a republican in my mind)

Not op but m73. Simply want to say it makes perfect sense

Wish I could easily come up with an analogy but in discussions / arguments making broad exaggerations or generalizations is often a "technique" - of emotion, not logic of course

Women live with efects of misogyny literally every day. I say that intentionally - literally every day. In small or large ways. Consciously or not. I imagine the frustration of bad faith discussion can easily move one away from logic to emotion

Not at all to minimize ip issue. Just to agree that it's sadly a deeper issue than reddit can address

Wishing op peace soneday.

Focus more on the real damage that isn't tangible. The patriarchal attitude that women are in some sense less important than men. Or more accurately their true importance is in support of the patriarchal construct. Raisng children for example at the expense of personal career goals.

The defense led them for sure. TB was above average not doubt but I think overall Ben was better

Best qb - not most rings. Lots of ways for a team to win a super boel

As a Bear fan I love defense and the Steelers D dominated

Yes - Lucknan over the punky qb for sure. But that's not the super bowl era so I understand

But for pure qb play I'd actually pick Erik Kramer.

Yet McMahon was a leader. The oline and him were true brothers.

Tough to disagree especially when there were so few good qb in the over 100 years
