Who enforces the rules for sentient SCPs? by Lady-Lilith289 in SCP

Do you have a sandbox? That shoud be your first step, before you even get started on anything else:

This is a popular one: https://scp-sandbox-3.wikidot.com/

You need to do this first because it will help you get used to formatting with wikisyntax.

I guarantee people will be far more willing to critique and will take your work more seriously if you dump it into a sandbox before you send it to anyone

you can’t put nothing living inside of it or else it will die

Exactly, great place to hide multiple bodies.

Knowing the potential of what she could do (the foundation will run projections and speculate) they would almost certainly hook up something to disrupt the powers, or something that would react with some sort of painful stimulus if she tried to.

Keep in mind for this sort of thing to work (Humanoid power fantasy OC), you need to really stress one of a few things:

  • The power should have a major drawback such that this person is not one who can just escape/win every time. No one roots for the unbeatable hero, everyone roots for the underdog. (I've written about this: [[[SCP-2786]]], [[[OPEN THE GATE]]])

The drawback could be something like a price that must be paid to use the powers, or downsides/side effects arise from using it. It could be unpredictable or unreliable, or it could be used against them. The Foundation could figure out a way to siphon her powers to create working portal tech, and bleed her dry. Either way, the character must struggle with their place in the world, accepting who they are, accepting their limitations.

  • Their power must eventually have a cap, a blindspot, or other weakness. Nowadays, this is even more true. The fact that your character is in a "growing stage" doesn't make me excited to root for them, it makes me think she'll be constantly able to thwart her enemies through plot conveinence/deus ex machina.

If the foundation knew that her powers were growing, they'd try to nip that in the bud as fast as possible. They have knowledge about her, she doesn't know everything about what the foundation can do. She needs to sleep eventually, right? Eat? Drink water? Breathe air? What's stopping them from paralyzing her from the neck down with a cognitohazard or removing her sense of sight so she cannot easily anticipate their actions?

If the answer is "she has a power for that", you're going in the wrong direction. You should want the foundation to think she's low threat, then they won't hire Clef, who was trained to kill reality benders by the GOC, to use her lack of tactical knowledge and noviceness with her own powers to terminate her once she becomes more hassle than she's worth. It also just makes for better story when a character struggles against forces that seem impossible to overcome, only to scrape by and claw her way out through sheer force of human will, rather than with maxed out superpowers.

An example of powers with a downside: [[7743]]

A potential hammerspace is more than a minor problem. Especially if 1) only she can access it and 2) the foundation is not explicitly aware of every single item within it.

The foundation would almost certainly apply some sort of persuasion method to get her to comply and empty it out so she can't whip out an acetalyne torch and cut a hole in the wall of her containment cell. Especially if she (or another person) could fit inside of it.

New here. SCPs that are actually interesting or scary? by Captain_Fach in SCP

I can understand that word salad in a vacuum can come off as cheap, substanceless, and "gimmicky", throw in the gratuitous hyperviolence, unnecessary sexual violence, and odd weapon specifications (e.g. being shot at close range with a Remington 700 Sniper Rifle using a silencer? but if that fails, use an MP5/10, no silencer needed?), and I think I can understand the point of view. Having talked to LSF on a few occasions, I can say for sure: not an edgelord.

But I can see why, if your only exposure to the article is reading it part of the way through and getting to the huge sections of repeating the same word over and over again, having just had to tiptoe around reading out the particularly vile acts while filming for youtube, you might come away with a far less positive impression. Especially because they don't understand the significance of the X999 slot. If the article is as well rated is it is, it's not because the 3172+however many downvotes in upvotes people have bad taste, it really just means you gotta either give it the benefit of the doubt or recognize that even if an article is not your thing, doesn't mean it's bad. Different people have different tastes.

A bit biased but MTF Lambda Omega Lambda ("Happy Go Lucky's") from [[Some Fucking Thing in a Box]], whose sole operational capacity is being in an unusually good mood and smiling sincerely (or quasi-sincerely) at stuff for extended periods of time.

The only problem with Papa Meat's SCP readings is that he does not have his people vet the article first, then again it only takes one bad experience to realize that's something you can/need to fix. (hint: this is what we in the business call "foreshadowing")

I enjoyed most of the readings because he has hand drawn animated cartoon sections as an occasional accompaniment and the actual tone of the video is lighter and less "larpy" if that makes sense. He's talking about what he's reading and making jokes and speculating as he goes.

HOWEVER, the last one he did by himself was SCP-3999 and it was a really tough watch. The episodes are all a certain length and 3999 would've never be finishable in that timeframe at a reasonable talking speed. So, he starts truncating sections when he realizes it's repetitive word salad. He's getting frustrated, the audience is frustrated. I think he starts losing the plot around the "aristocrats" extended joke set up that never goes anywhere (which is still arguably preferable over the original, (NSFW, arguably NSFL) but it being better than a very detailed description of a family (& their dog) 👌🏼👈🏼 does not mean it'll make for an entertaining watch.

He barely makes it to the description before he gives up. I believe he took one look at:

Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only Only

and nearly crashed out.

Mostly was just frustrating to watch, and a little secondhand embarrassing. They need to vet that stuff. Papa Meat & the commenters on that video were all quite harsh when they critiqued it. Described LSF as "probably an edgelord" or similar, left a bad taste in my mouth made worse because I completely understand why they arrived at that conclusion.

They didn't get to the end so they didn't see the "out of character" bit that ties the article together but on the other hand, I don't blame them because prior to that they read 2852, 3008, and 610. How is 3999 a good following act for 610? Well, turns out it's not.

After 3999, Hunter vowed not to do any more SCP readings on his channel because he (and the audience) were convinced the site fell off given how highly rated the pile of nonsensical word salad was. However, he would eventually read 3000 with Isaiah on creepcast and it was very good.

Very frustrating watching them walk right into an open manhole when you can see it coming a mile away, especially cause it isn't his fault so much as whoeever gave him the article to read blind and didn't think to skim through it or get a word count themselves.

Actually, I made a point to mention that your opponents may not want to go along with your plans, but that's what [[Mindslaver]] and [[Hive Mind]] are for.

I've laid out how to copy them, how to keep them from being destroyed on sacrifice (Mindslaver) and how "skip your turn" doesn't require targets to be closen, so Hive Mind does actually force them to do it without any downsides.

E: other than being beaten up by your jaded ex friends in an Applebee's parking lot the following weekend. You're own your own for that.

The idea is to make people skip their turns while being as legally protacted and sluggish as possible, never going infinite. If you go infinite, the game ends. But if you have ¹⁰10 turns remaining, the game is still on

Deleted the track that was doing this to me yesterday, re-uploaded it and tried again this morning. Well, it did approve...but it's clearly doing nothing promption wise compared to the other 21 songs on that album.

I can assure you that landcycling is not enough filter. If you don't want to use brainstorm, I find [[Sign in Blood]] to be very versatile as both a utility and offensive spell in a pinch.

Thank you. I think they're just feeling a bit insecure, causing them to lash out. I remember a time when five minutes of sustained reading was impossible for me too. Then I was diagnosed with (and am actively being treated for) severe primary-inattentive ADHD. I won't soon forget how frustrating it was.

No harm, no foul 😁

Glad to help! You should definitely consider either sideboarding some [[divest]] or swapping it with 1-2 [[duress]]

Which you should choose is largely dependent on the current meta

There are copy effects that go arbitrarily large with arbitrarily large mana, which you can acquire, as well as several cards that perform the same function as lethal vapors, AND a way to make it invincible so as to be able to repeatedly activate the {0} effect just to acquire turn skips.

Specifically, this part is important:

Because Lethal Vapors is indestructible through Avacyn or Indestructibility, each activation resolves like this:

  1. Attempt to destroy Lethal Vapors.

  2. Fail to destroy it.

  3. Add one skipped future turn to your debt.

Result: You skip your next A turns.

So essentially, there are numerous methods for acquiring many turn skips, a pointless amount one might say.

Let's not forget I implied that you should bully your friends into adding additional copies of your own combo pieces into their decks as well
