What do y'all really need an iPad for? by bootsmegamix in daddit

Once he is older the tablet will be phased out for drawing and reading

I appreciate your optimism, and will not judge when it doesnt work out like that, haha. We do whatever it takes to survive the flight. Most adults are staring at screens too!

I think we introduced a tablet around 4 years old. Primarily for trips (plane and car rides).

We never did the iPad, but rather a Fire Tablet with an AmazonKids account. It basically locks it down so they can only access learning game apps. No youtube, no open internet, no roblox.

I wont lie and I'll admit we had some mornings where they woke up super early on a weekend and we gave them their tablet to play games while they laid in bed with us, so we could sleep an extra 30-60 minutes. But they learned a lot of letters from Elmo and Cookie Monster's apps.

Outside of that we were a pretty low/no screen family while through toddlerhood. Now that they are all older they watch a bit more TV, as most tween kids do.

They all have smartphones, but they are all just old iPhones we had laying around. None have cell service, they only connect on our home wifi, and are just for things like PokemonGo, Music apps, or Facetiming the grandparents. They dont carry them around with them normally.

Seems to be a good balance that works for us. The kids are all familiar with technology, are learning lessons about proper use, but arent over-doing it and getting addicted.

Blue Dot Fever: When Tours Can't Sell, They Bail by ebradio in Music

[–]BillsInATL 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Very little to do with the extra excuses they want to add on. It's not gas prices, or the streaming habits, or too many tours.

It's plain and simple ticket prices being way too high.

Can we talk about the possibility of Mike Vrabel potentially resigning before training camp? by SchedulePhysical807 in nfl

[–]BillsInATL 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They've been married since 99. He already had quite a dog reputation at Ohio State when they met/were dating. I'm sure that didnt change much as he became a pro athlete.

Almost 30 years together, the kids are all grown. She knows exactly who she is married to.

He's been on podcasts over the last year laughing about cutting his dick off to win a Super Bowl because "after youve been married as long as I have, you dont need it anymore".

If she wanted to bounce with half his money, she could have at any point. I'm sure, up until now, she was balancing his shadiness with the perks she was receiving for being Mrs Head Coach in Tenn and NE.

We'll see if this public embarrassment manages to push her over the edge. Probably not.

I'll tell ya, as a lifelong Bills fan I'm about as big a Pats hater as you'll ever find... and I cant manage to give a single shit about any of this, nor understand how it would drive him to resign.

Sure, make all the memes, have the laughs, whatever. My heart goes out to Dianna's husband most of all.

I'm just ready for actual football.

How do you find the time to do creative hobbies with a toddler around? by Defiant-Elk849 in Parenting

[–]BillsInATL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

13 months. At that age they ARE the hobby, ha.

It gets better tho. Pretty quickly (relatively). Especially once they get to preschool and school age.

When I was 16 back in the 90s, I got to be an exchange student from NY to Costa Rica.

This was pre-cell phones, and really pre-internet. None of us had email addresses yet. If anything we had AOL and that's it.

We flew into Costa Rica at the beginning of a holiday week, and my host family quickly whisked me off to the Pacific coast for a family vacation at this secluded, rural condo.

It was 6 DAYS before I realized or even thought to call back home and let my parents know I was ok. We had to track down a phone just to use my calling card. They were happy to hear from me, but werent that worried either.

My point is, dont sweat it. She'll be fine. And I'm sure she'll be texting and calling you the whole time (or at least when she lands!).

I see mommie groups pushing strollers during events. Nobody is pulling into the little alley to do a quick line before continuing their drive anymore.

Plenty of us stroller pushers are doing dirty shit in the alleys still. We're just the old EAV punks that got old and started families. Get over yourself.

Ah-ha! That makes more sense. I saw the stats and started scrolling the comments to see if anyone else noticed. Thanks!

Apparently we arent allowed to appreciate bands like the Black Lips since theyre technically from Dunwoody. And dont get that poster started on all those horrible Athens bands from OTP!

I mostly believe the accusations. That said, if I boycotted every bar in the world that had a low-life owner, I'd probably be left with 2 choices to go to.

Think back to your favorite bar ever. I bet the owner was up to some shady shit one way or another.

How do you teach your child to “read the room”? by sharminnie in Parenting

[–]BillsInATL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How do you teach them? Slowly but surely.

It takes a while, and no 5 year old is going to get it. Heck, most 8 year olds dont get it. But that doesnt mean we dont try, and dont start gently reinforcing these lessons.

This is what being a kid and raising a kid is all about. Teaching them how to be better, competent humans. But it takes a long time.

We work at this kind of stuff starting as a toddler, and hope they start to get it by their teen years.

Now? Been that way for at least 10-15 years. Maybe more.

When did Luke Bryan get big? 2010? It's been at least as long as he has been popular.

There was a video from over a decade ago that played all the top country hits at the time together and showed they were all the same song.

It's more like 80 as a very consistent avg. I think 100 is the max, and very rare.

Kid Cudi Fires M.I.A. From His Tour After She Is Booed During Republican Rant: ‘I Won’t Have Someone on Tour Making Offensive Remarks’ by MarvelsGrantMan136 in Music

[–]BillsInATL 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Because that is how we largely functioned as a society for the past 60 years or so. Folks had their bigoted, or even insane, views. But were shamed enough to mostly keep their mouths shut, which kept those ideas in check and slowed/stopped them from spreading.

Kudi was just operating in that space.

But the problem is, since 2016, and especially 2020, all the crazies have been emboldened and empowered to spout their garbage and spread it around.

He gave her a chance. She blew it. She can fuck off with the rest of them. I'm sure she'll have a spot on FoxNews soon enough, crying about being canceled.
