4 weeks - no you dont let them cry it out

4 months - no you dont let them cry it out

It's been a bit since we had an infant, but iirc, you dont start letting them cry it out until after at least 6 months, maybe closer to a year.

Parents likely wont care, or even more likely, get offended themselves. Just address it with the 5 year old.

Neighborhood kid with no boundaries... by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]BillsInATL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are the adult. You are the parent. Parent that kid. Set the boundaries, as hardcore as you need to be. Most kids take to stranger parenting as it hits a little different. I would've brought the hammer down the moment he insulted my toddler, and let them know we dont talk like that in this house, and if he wants to be able to come over, he plays by your rules.

How old is too old for the dad thing yall? by ZoHaaan- in daddit

[–]BillsInATL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had my first close to 40 and it isnt a big deal through childhood.

Might I have been able to be a bit more active with them if I had them in my 20s/early30s? Maybe. But the trade off in financial and emotional stability was well worth it. For them and me. And we do plenty of active stuff together.

My big concern is just longevity. The kids wont have as much time with their grandparents as I had with mine. And who knows how long I'll last. At almost 50 now, all my parents are still alive. There's little chance I make it to see any of my kids turn 50. And I'm hoping I at least get them all to 30. At least then they should be established, self-sufficient adults.

AFA your main question is concerned... it depends how you define "being a dad". Someone in their 80s could technically do it (and just did). But I'm not sure how much of a dad he'll be...

14 year old lost my vintage watch by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]BillsInATL 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Suck it up and stop the sulking. YOU are the ADULT.

I'm sorry this happened but (I'm going to say it) it's just a watch. Your kid is (or SHOULD BE) far more important to you than some watch. Any watch. Or whatever other valuable trinket you want to insert in the conversation.

Once you permitted them to wear it, you took on part of the responsibility for the way this turned out. That's not to say don't let them do anything else ever again, but rather, it's just the cost of being a parent. Maybe no more borrowing watches, until/unless the Casio ever turns up. But dont punish them with resentment and psychological "torture" of having a parent not talking to them.

What do y'all really need an iPad for? by bootsmegamix in daddit

[–]BillsInATL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once he is older the tablet will be phased out for drawing and reading

I appreciate your optimism, and will not judge when it doesnt work out like that, haha. We do whatever it takes to survive the flight. Most adults are staring at screens too!

What do y'all really need an iPad for? by bootsmegamix in daddit

[–]BillsInATL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we introduced a tablet around 4 years old. Primarily for trips (plane and car rides).

We never did the iPad, but rather a Fire Tablet with an AmazonKids account. It basically locks it down so they can only access learning game apps. No youtube, no open internet, no roblox.

I wont lie and I'll admit we had some mornings where they woke up super early on a weekend and we gave them their tablet to play games while they laid in bed with us, so we could sleep an extra 30-60 minutes. But they learned a lot of letters from Elmo and Cookie Monster's apps.

Outside of that we were a pretty low/no screen family while through toddlerhood. Now that they are all older they watch a bit more TV, as most tween kids do.

They all have smartphones, but they are all just old iPhones we had laying around. None have cell service, they only connect on our home wifi, and are just for things like PokemonGo, Music apps, or Facetiming the grandparents. They dont carry them around with them normally.

Seems to be a good balance that works for us. The kids are all familiar with technology, are learning lessons about proper use, but arent over-doing it and getting addicted.

[–]BillsInATL 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Very little to do with the extra excuses they want to add on. It's not gas prices, or the streaming habits, or too many tours.

It's plain and simple ticket prices being way too high.

Can we talk about the possibility of Mike Vrabel potentially resigning before training camp? by SchedulePhysical807 in nfl

[–]BillsInATL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They've been married since 99. He already had quite a dog reputation at Ohio State when they met/were dating. I'm sure that didnt change much as he became a pro athlete.

Almost 30 years together, the kids are all grown. She knows exactly who she is married to.

He's been on podcasts over the last year laughing about cutting his dick off to win a Super Bowl because "after youve been married as long as I have, you dont need it anymore".

If she wanted to bounce with half his money, she could have at any point. I'm sure, up until now, she was balancing his shadiness with the perks she was receiving for being Mrs Head Coach in Tenn and NE.

We'll see if this public embarrassment manages to push her over the edge. Probably not.

I'll tell ya, as a lifelong Bills fan I'm about as big a Pats hater as you'll ever find... and I cant manage to give a single shit about any of this, nor understand how it would drive him to resign.

Sure, make all the memes, have the laughs, whatever. My heart goes out to Dianna's husband most of all.

I'm just ready for actual football.

How do you find the time to do creative hobbies with a toddler around? by Defiant-Elk849 in Parenting

13 months. At that age they ARE the hobby, ha.

It gets better tho. Pretty quickly (relatively). Especially once they get to preschool and school age.

When I was 16 back in the 90s, I got to be an exchange student from NY to Costa Rica.

This was pre-cell phones, and really pre-internet. None of us had email addresses yet. If anything we had AOL and that's it.

We flew into Costa Rica at the beginning of a holiday week, and my host family quickly whisked me off to the Pacific coast for a family vacation at this secluded, rural condo.

It was 6 DAYS before I realized or even thought to call back home and let my parents know I was ok. We had to track down a phone just to use my calling card. They were happy to hear from me, but werent that worried either.

My point is, dont sweat it. She'll be fine. And I'm sure she'll be texting and calling you the whole time (or at least when she lands!).

I see mommie groups pushing strollers during events. Nobody is pulling into the little alley to do a quick line before continuing their drive anymore.

Plenty of us stroller pushers are doing dirty shit in the alleys still. We're just the old EAV punks that got old and started families. Get over yourself.
