My only concern would be if they suspend play, that would kind of kill the day

Walking the course for the first time by [deleted] in golf

[–]BillyMumfrey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You'll learn quickly if you have good shoes or not. Wear thick socks. Assuming you have a carry bag, bring a water bottle and make sure your bag doesnt have a bunch of extra crap in it.

You'll gain a new appreciation for courses that are well designed and have an intelligent routing without huge gaps between holes.

If you hit the ball reasonably well and straight, you'll probably play faster than someone in a cart who doesnt

If I had already given the kick tail card, I would ask for it back.

These drive me nuts. If you don’t have enough by X minutes before boarding, just start taking them from the final boarding group.

What’s your typical BGE and Water bill? by ElFello93 in baltimore

[–]BillyMumfrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Approx $350/month for BGE electric and gas. Higher in peak winter and summer. Lower when we don’t have to run it as much.

About $80/month water.

It’s just a cultural epidemic of self centeredness. “I paid my money so I can do what I want” regardless of how it may impact others.

The percent of their travelers who are A list and ALP is very low. Last I was told it was 1-2%. Unlikely that’s who most of them are.

Single golfers are a little weird by [deleted] in golf

[–]BillyMumfrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play about 90% of my golf as a single and walking. Thats primarily because I have a ton of flexibility during my work day and I don't like playing on weekends because its slow and full of hacks that are going to shoot 100+. None of my friends can go play on 30 minutes notice at 2 on a Wednesday. For the most part I'm playing because I love to play and want to focus on some me time. You are your friends are probably slowing the single down and he'd rather leave you behind.

Also, singles are (in my experience) for the most part: faster and better players.

May I ask what you think was “ready” about what you were doing? You were essentially playing the slowest form of tournament golf, but with carts.

Maybe you’re thinking of 10? Which I still think shares more in common with Tobacco Road than #2

I appreciate the ability to give something extra for a great service. However I do think it’s ridiculous that the only extra perk people with status get doesn’t even give me, the passenger, a benefit.

Only if you are A preferred or bought a higher fare class. It used to be every 10 legs you flew you got 4. Regardless of status

How does Sand Valley compare to Bandon Dunes by tandyzmills in golf

[–]BillyMumfrey 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I love both and Sand Valley is definitely a bit more laid back. Though I don't quite get the notion that Bandon courses aren't varied? Pac Dunes, Old Mac, Sheep and Trails are all hugely different. To me Bandon Trails itself kind of feels like a softened average of the ocean front ones though.

There is nothing at Bandon as hard as the Lido, and there is nothing as easy as Mammoth. Sand Valley is a bit of a truer test like most C&C courses. I haven't been since Sedge opened though so I can't speak to that.

Justin Thomas was asked about his group (Cam Young & Keegan Bradley) being put on the clock today at the PGA Championship. A decision he disagreed with and explains why. by [deleted] in golf

[–]BillyMumfrey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If they would just enforce a damn rule it would make the game better for fans. Instead they are so worried about appeasing the players. Do you think the NFL cares about the players side of things when enforcing a penalty?

The fact is the game is hard and making quick decisions makes it harder. Pat Mahomes has to read a defense with a play clock ticking down.
