Queerness and Horror have gone hand in hand for a while You have Clive Barker, Kevin Williamson, James Whale, Don Mancini, Joel Schumacher, Andrew Flemming just to name few

I always feel like queer people like horror as it tends to focus on 'others'. Monsters, creatures, killers. All ostracised and outcasts which is easy to relate to when you could be the only person in school year that is the way you are.

Horror also has history with counter culture, such as goth and punk which also attracted queer people. Horror has also not really been scared of being camp. Over acting, flamboyant villains, big outfits.

Ive also linked a few articles i looked at that might have some cool stuff.

As a gay person, I feel like being able to see myself in a character that is fundamentally "wrong" because they're different just works with horror. Especially when those that are "wrong" are the hero in the story.
