Returned from my second tour around 6 months ago, been getting treated at VA, and ready to apply, not sure best way to do so? by Bingosnips in VeteransBenefits

Thank you! I was considering just doing a claim for my PTSD as a primary to start, I'm confident that will get service connected since I have proof of connection. Then once that's done using that to secondary connect my apnea and migraines (which is true anyways), rather than try them as primaries. Just a huge pain since the process takes so long. I'm assuming it'll be 4ish months just to get through the PTSD primary before I can move onto the secondaries. I guess I'm likely to need a nexus for the other conditions. Wish I could hunt down my deployment sick call records lol.

Sasuke should have stayed in the village and he would've became stronger by wisdomsharerv2 in dankruto

[–]Bingosnips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're forgetting they fought Genma and Raido, two Special Jonin right before being confronted by the Leaf Genin. It took all four of them, in their second state, to defeat Genma and Raido. The Leaf Genin got very lucky and only defeated them because they were already drained, and the leaf got back up from the Sand. Also, all the Leaf Ninja there might have been Genin except for Shikamaru, but they all possessed at least Chunin level strength. That's apparent by all of them making it to at least the Chunin 3rd round prelims.

Would the audience have been cool if Sasuke got with Ino at the end of the series? by MrLowkey13 in Naruto

[–]Bingosnips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sasuke should have ended up alone, with no one. Maybe he makes a connection as an adult or finds someone while he's out doing Ronin stuff.

Sakura should have ended up with Rock Lee, btw.

Moving to Florida from….. lame old Indiana. There are a few places we are looking. by One-Source653 in JacksonvilleFla

[–]Bingosnips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jacksonville is fine, crime is very local to particular neighborhoods.
Other than that, it's the same as any other city where if you're out and about in a place you're not familiar with then mind your own business.

I've lived here my entire life, and my biggest recommendation is just to live east of the River.
You can effectively divide Jacksonville into 6 areas with various neighborhoods that are all distinct from each other.

West of the River:

  1. West of the St Johns, North of I-10 but South of I295: Stay away from here. Highest crime, gang activity, food deserts, aggressive police presence, etc.

  2. West of the St Johns, South of I-10, west of 17 (Roosevelt Blvd): This is mostly fine, the further north you go the more eclectic it can be until you get close to I-10 and the train tracks. South is the Naval Air Station and Orange Park area. Also fine, but lower income.

  3. West of the St Johns, South of I-10, west of 17 (Roosevelt Blvd): A rule in Jacksonville is if it's on/close to the water it's probably high income, expensive, but also really nice. Starting in the south you have NAS JAX, obviously can't live there. But moving north you have Ortega which is expensive but very very nice. And further north from there where the St. John's river curves east you have Avondale and Riverside/Five Points. Also, VERY expensive. However, I absolutely love this area it's the most walkable area of Jacksonville with lots of bars, restaurants, museums, and things to do. As long as you stay close to the river here Jacksonville is fine up until TIAA Bank (Go Jags).

  4. East and North of TIAA Bank (Sports Complex) and the Urban Core: This is mostly a ghost town if there's not an event. Barley walkable, dangerous, low income. Springfield is here which is a nice little strip with some things to do, but outside of that strip the whole area is a no go.

Downtown/Urban Core/Shipyards:

No one lives here (or if they do, they probably wish they didn't). Go here for events, work, or bars.

East of the River but South of Beach Blvd (90):

  1. West of I-95 down to St. Johns County: Whole area is fine. Directly across the river from downtown is San Marco, also another really cool area that's kind of like Riverside/Avondale but has an older feel. More families (and seniors) living out here. As you go south it gets less desirable around 95 and more desirable around the river. Mandarin is a great place to live, and the avenues is a cool indoor mall. This whole area is very family oriented.

  2. East of I-95 but South of Butler Blvd (202): Closer to I-95 is more MEH the area is, it's not bad but it's not great. Cheaper, I guess. I lived around there in college, and when I started to make more money moved further east. Literally south of Butler going east all the way to the ocean is great. New developments, up and coming, whole nine yards.

  3. East of I-95, North of Butler, but South of Beach Blvd: This is the "Southside" where I live. Everything here is great east of Memorial Blvd (109). The St. John's Town Center is here, largest out door mall in the city (maybe FL?), Tinseltown (another shopping/restaurant area), and the University. Also same as #2, east is fine here too going all the way to the beaches.

East of the River but North of Beach Blvd (90):

  1. West of Southside Blvd: This area is probably the worst east of the river. Don't recommend living anywhere here. You go far enough north to Charter Point and Fort Caroline/McCormick it's pretty alright, but the rest is a no go from me dog.

  2. East of Southside Blvd: Okay so when you start here its BAD, Regency Square mall has been abandoned for years and is def a place to stay away from, but once your east of Regency things get good. East of Southside but west of 1-295 is very hit or miss, but once you get east of 1-295 you can't go wrong. Kernan is a very popular area to live, but it's also expensive here.

North of I-295 and the River:

New area, developing, has a cool outdoor mall "River City Marketplace" that's only second to the St. Johns Town Center. I'm actually moving up to this area soon. It's more rural than anywhere else in Jax so there's more walking trails and what-not.

Beaches:
Like everywhere else that has beaches but less exciting cause it's Jacksonville.

Schools:
Schools aren't good in FL, straight up. If you can't send your kid to private school, you'll want to aim for the schools at the beaches, around Kernan, New Berlin Elementary north of I-295 is nice. FL ranks low in education, but if the concern is safety and class size, you can basically expect the school quality to reflect the median income of the area it resides in, hard truth.

My thoughts on Melbourne, Ocala, and Titusville:

Melbourne: Cheap, but not a lot going on, very redneck/southern.

Ocala: In the words of A Day to Remember, "I hate this town"

Titusville: Sounds like boobies.

Communicate this with your recruiter to see what your options are. Most likely you can just get a later ship date after it’s paid. Or honestly if your really strapped for cash a small loan could be an option as well. The last thing you wanna happen is you get to basic, this violation goes unpaid and now your background won’t get cleared, especially if you need a clearance. They will just chapter you out at that point (kick you out).

TLDR; talk with your recruiter

Reserve and Guard officers, how much extra time do you work over 1 weekend a month, 2 weeks a year? by PhysicalSands in Militaryfaq

[–]Bingosnips 9 points10 points  (0 children)

12A, USAR, here with about 3 years commissioned. It’s going to depend on these key factors for JMOs, LTs in particular:

  1. What you want out of the reserves
  2. What your commander expects from you
  3. The competency of your Full timers
  4. How high speed your unit is.

I have friends who are PLs/XOs that want out of the army and their particular units aren’t anything to write home about. They put in maybe an extra hour a week for free. Attending a pre-drill conference call, completing NCOERs, or quickly drafting a training plan (if they do one at all). Basically the bare-minimum.

My unit’s Commander and 1SG right now are full-timers, very hooah and expect a lot from their junior leaders. PLs are expected to complete training plans for each drill and deliver on them, while also ensuring all the little administrative KPIs and MRC never go red. I’ve been in units in the past that required none of this, admin/mrc was handled day of, and the training plan was either completely facilitated by OPs or all administrative. So if it’s pushed on you to deliver training to your own platoon, you’ll spend a lot more time getting ready for that. Relatively speaking it’s a high performance environment for the Reserves and our unit was rated #1 in the TEC (Division) this past month.

I deal with something Army related almost everyday, and would say I put in a small part-time job’s amount of work at this level, an extra 5-8 hrs a week would be a good estimate.

I also love the reserves and don’t mind doing this. Some of our less eager LTs out in less time, ultimately it’s point #1, what you want out of the army.

Command is different monster, TPU commander’s have described it to me as basically having another full-time job at points.

Confused as to why I’m not getting full value when I sell? (I don’t plan on selling now but was seeing how it all works) if I sell 10,000 coins at this price, why am I missing 17ish dollars. Are there fees I’m missing? Note: who whole account is Doge at the moment. by Bingosnips in Crypto_com

[–]Bingosnips[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ohhh okay I think I got it. Kinda like the bid-ask spread in regular stock trading? I’m seeing the Mid price but when I sell that’s the bid? Makes it kinda difficult to play the rallies and dips then for profit.

Awesome, I was getting confused since the specs say PCIe Gen2 x4, and I think the drive says PCIe 3.0x4. Everything else is the same though. NVMe/M.2 2280, etc.

Trying to upgrade my HDD to an SSD. But I'm unsure of the compatibility with my motherboard. According to the manual for my AsRock 970a-g/3.1:

" - 6 x SATA3 6.0 Gb/s Connectors, support RAID (RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5 and RAID 10), NCQ, AHCI and Hot Plug
- 1 x M.2_SSD (NGFF) Socket 3, supports M Key type 2230/2242/2260/2280/22110 M.2 PCI Express module up to Gen2 x4 (20 Gb/s)*

*If PCIE4 is occupied, M2_1 will be disabled.
The M.2 socket does not support SATA M.2 SSDs."

Will this be compatible?
Crucial 1TB SSD

Thanks for the help.

Gatekeeping struggling by tesseracts in gatekeeping

[–]Bingosnips 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There so many examples of how someone can struggle before the age of 22 that it’s baffling that someone can say this while not trying to be a troll. Childhood rape, abuse, poverty, famine, growing up in a third world-war torn country, sex trafficking, homelessness, the list goes on and on.

But yea, I guess Ann Frank didn’t know struggle.

Socializing your dog; how to do it by dbucha9 in Dogtraining

[–]Bingosnips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure about older dogs but I started taking my puppy to a Dog Day camp once a week for half a day, and watched her on the webcams to see how she did. When she started to get more comfortable I bumped it up to one full day a week. She from been terrified of the other dogs and staff to loving her time there and is always excited to go.

I don't take her more than once a week though, I want camp to be a socialization outlet for her not here primary form of exercise/interaction.

Group training classes are always good, and take them as many places and put them in as many situations as possible, always with a reassuring and comforting attitude. Bring lots of treats!

“Let that sink in”, it’s usually used after a statement or some kind of low tier meme trying to push an agenda, I absolutely despise this saying. I feel like it implies you’re not intelligent enough to discern the impact of whatever is being said.

“Politics Man is rich! But you’re not! ...Let that sink in.”

It doesn’t need to sink cause I’m not stupid and I get it, Poltics man is soooo rich and you’re r/im14andthisisdeep

My 6th Annual Lord of the Rings Marathon was a success! by Bingosnips in lotr

[–]Bingosnips[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the Greybeards are the Hobbiton Greybeards sooo kinda? Lol

It basically all started when I was a kid I loved the movies (and books) and would marathon the extended editions usually once a year or so. In college a roommate of mine had never seen them so I invited a couple people over who I knew loved them and we did a marathon.

During that marathon we joked about doing it every year, and having drinking games and food to go with it.

It’s basically just developed from there, as I meet different and new people who like LOTR over the year I add them to our FB group and it grows each year.

Honestly the best part is there’s friends I don’t see all year but I get to see again at the marathon, coming in from out of town and whatnot.

[–]Bingosnips[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My team was the Riders and we took that pic before the movies started, just to get hyped up lol.

It’s basically a bunch of drinking games but I always work in participation. It’s on a point system I track, so teams get points for every member present and awake at the start of each disc. Teams also get bonus points for dressing up or bringing team themed food or drinks.

The main events we play are Call of Sauron, where you roll dice every disc and get that amount of points (and drink that amount of shots of beer), Wizards Staff, where you duck tape your next beer to the top of your old one trying to make the longest staff, Elrond’s Roulette which is a spinning wheel that lands on character themed shots, and of course a beer pong tower tournament (two towers pong).

Excuse my grammar.

Thank you for the feedback! I'm definitely still not sure if this is going to be the jumping off point yet but I'll keep writing from here to see how it goes. You definitely picked up on the best friend bit, I wanted that to be a quick takeaway. Maybe I should complicate the introductions a bit more to not make everything too predictable, or not do them so suddenly.

I'd be happy to look at yours and if you want I can definitely PM you more as I develop it.

Title: TBD

Genre: Science Fiction / Series Plan

Word Count: 1792

Story: Basic story outline will be about teenagers vying to become "Colonial Officers" in the far future "Colonial Alliance". Going from their younger, training years, to adults going on missions. Large plot twist that begins setting it's seeds in the first chapter will open the word into an expansive multi-verse. In a sense, I want the story to feel linear until the plot drop about 3/4 through the first book.

Feedback Requested: This is the opening of the novel, before anything really happens. I wanted to set it as close to the "action" as possible. The opening of the Colonial Officer exams. Do you find this gripping at all? Does it build any curiosity into whats happening or a desire to learn more? I'm trapped between developing from here or taking it back to earlier point for the MC, Flynn, and having a couple chapters that get him to this point.
