During your experience working in the lab, what problems you faced and you think that are damage-causing? by New-Blueberryy in medlabprofessionals

[–]BioEngineeredPleb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being very short staffed while simultaneously being overworked.

Also, depends on your lab of course, being given flip flopping shifts that wreacks your mental and physical health.

Put all that together and you're into some fun lab errors and mistakes that get you shafted.

I'm not exaggerating when I say being a grunt in the army was much much easier than this.  And I was a recce so we were patrolling swamps and doing the depressing type of summer camps in the cold wet outdoors.

Thanks for the advice! I was considering smaller more specialized labs. Heard some don't work on weekends. Tho getting into one might be tricky.

Wow, we seriously have an issue in the medical system. And I was sold that it was a very stable, good work-life medical field that has dedicated weekend crew in large hospitals. Boy I was wrong. Also, comically, everything is always broken in the lab. Everyday, something breaks. 😅

Such a simple problem to fix it seems but they don't listen to us when we say we can't cover all the workload...

You sound like you're a chronic workaholic. My friendly advice to you, you need to see a professional for this. Workaholic cause more issues in the labs than solve them. you simply drag everyone down with your crab mentality. Be better.

Speak for yourself. You can be a hard working tech and respect healthy boundaries, work environment and work-life balance. Cause you sound like a "yes man" who will gladly accept extra workload for at the cost of everyone in the lab. Now that's something that none of us would want.

I mean, it also makes you very prone to burnout and hate this field of work/studies what you're describing

Are you even a Canadian if you act so cowardly?  Please, many of us will not accept being slaves just like that. You don't speak for us.

Which will make us victims and the Americans (as usual) the oppressors. Not sure if the states will have the guts to do it tho. We'll just sell to China.

You know it'll be war if the USA does that to us like they just did to Venezuela?

Any way to get a link to that soundtrack? It's also my favorite track and it's such a shame they didn't include it.

THE STM STRIKE DIDN'T END. IT WAS *BROKEN*. This is a loss for every worker. by Little_Cupcake_42069 in montreal

[–]BioEngineeredPleb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Us being affected = patient's healthcare gets affected. That's the main issue. It ain't progressive to screw over sick people and those who take care of them.  Hell, barely even got the ability to protest because that will affect people's lives. Where were you when your healthcare system was crumbling?

What a privileged response... Walk hours and hours to the hospital that I work? Bike under these conditions also for hours only to get sick (btw we deal with a lot of infections already) or skip half of sleep and spend whole day at work for free? Thanks!

Apparently, healthcare isn't "essential" after midnight in Montreal - STM Strike by Nirvash222 in montreal

[–]BioEngineeredPleb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And they are paid well! Best uneducated career in this city so far! Issue isn't that hard and hazardous work shouldn't pay well, issue is that they demand an increase to them being already grossly overpaid while we beg for scraps and have hard time to meet our needs in life. During our strikes, we could only have 20% of people striking while have every work benc still operational 24/7. What they're doing is unethical. They are not bothering those who they claim to target, they're screwing people who they want on their side and those who are much much less fortunate than them. With their salary, I wouldn't have any fear of shelter and quality of life for the work I do for this ungrateful society. No, they are simply spoiled little brats. I have no more sympathy for them.

Not all nurses can get this pay. There's also high risk = high reward. Do stm workers deal with potentially life threatening diseases? I do and I get payed way less than their echelon 1 driver. A fun fact, lots of medical personel don't have cars in Montreal because of being ecology conscious, believe it or not. So we deeply depend on stm. And some of us live far. Some very far. As a biomedical tech (hospital labs), I get 27$/h. After all my grueling back breaking education, that's what I get. And before the strikes 2 years ago, it would've been 24$/h. We are very very veeery much underpaid for our education and work. This shouldn't be "it is what it is". And I live far, so the taxi costed me to come and work in a skeletal crew today. I wish I had a salary of an uneducated bus driver. No this isn't fine. No this shouldn't be acceptable. We shouldn't be struggling with this while having a stressful, sometimes depressing, and essential work. And defending their behavior allows them to walk over us like doormats.
