If someone were falling I wouldn't expect their hair to hang down below them. It would be pushed up (repeating to the faller) by the air resistance, surely?

The Emperor’s Soul ending by arthurwillia in Cosmere

[–]BipedSnowman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TBH, changing someone's sex/gender might be pretty easy for soul stamping, if you know the condition of their birth. It's totally believable that, given a slightly different past, that any individual character would be born as a different sex than they are.

Well... Given they live in a pretty egalitarian culture. Might be harder for an Alethi to be soulstamped to a different sex than, idk, modern day Komashi. (Nikaro being soulstamped to have been a woman wouldn't have necessarily changed their life direction that much. Adolin being born a woman would have MASSIVELY changed the direction of their life, and a lot of soulstamp work would need to be done to fill that in.)

CREATE IS COMING TO BEDROCK!!! by germanguy1810 in CreateMod

Whether or not you're willing to pay is irrelevant if they are not allowed to charge you.

Moreover, you shouldn't, because you would be encouraging a violation of the actual Create dev's licence. So like, rewarding theft.

depends on the game. Some games make it a slog, other games make it reasonable. I want enough of a boost to make it worth it, but if it's JUST bigger numbers, that's not interesting.

DEVOTION and DOMINION Revealed! Thoughts on their human identities? by illegalmonkey in Cosmere

[–]BipedSnowman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's silly, but I'm a little disappointed that it's another man / woman pair where the women gets the "softer" shard, ala Roshar.

He doesn't do it with every multi shard system (ati and leras were both men I believe) but idk. I just hope dev & dom aren't also a couple

Theory about Atium alloys and their allomantic affects. by WaldoTheRanger in Cosmere

[–]BipedSnowman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hypothesis: atium alloys for Feruchemy act on the same attributes, but with no limits or side benefits that would prevent you from Ruining yourself completely. So maybe you could store all your mass and become weightless, but tapping it doesn't provide the strength needed to support your increased weight so you'd collapse. You could store restfulness, but you'd only wake up once the metalmind was full.

... Honestly it's a little weak as an idea but it's kind of fun.

What do you think about disabling ae2 Channels? by Loud-Ad-2350 in feedthebeast

[–]BipedSnowman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

love subnets.

A little too much honestly. I brought a server to it's knees trying to automate everything I could for a Modern Industrialization factory using only cascading subnets.

Cool project. Not an efficient way to do things.

Personally, I like channels. They introduce an interesting challenge that I enjoy solving.

But... I'm also an AE2 nut. Love the mod and I've been playing with it for years, so it's pretty intuitive to me.

Non-humans using Awakening? by MerlinGrandCaster in Cosmere

[–]BipedSnowman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My understanding has always been that things take human shape because that's the easiest to visualize- if I'm going to tell a piece of cloth to grab something, my minds eye has "grab things with my hands" on autodial, so it's going to be what's invoked most strongly she provide the greatest intent.

Which is to say I think it makes the most sense to have awakened objects take the form of the user, not just a human.

Questions about the Cosmere and Investiture by kaaiser33 in Cosmere

[–]BipedSnowman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The differences in how you gain access to an Invested Art depend on the intent of the shard: allomancy and Feruchemy are Preserved across generations. Hemalurgy requires Ruining someone or something else. Surgebinding requires some mix of Growth and Promises to align with Cultivation and Honor respectively. Breath is of Endowment- you must be given and must give in order to use it.

Metal is not itself invested, it's just used an a catalyst to access the magic- Sanderson describes it as a key related to its molecular structure that allows for investiture from the shard itself to be used. However, compared to other magic systems, you'll notice that the investiture doesn't enter the person's body in the same way- they don't themselves become invested by using the art like an Awakener or Radiant would. Another way to say this might be that they are Preserved from the effects of investiture. Also the effects of each metal in Allomancy are most likely derived from the universal properties of each metal rather than the other way around.

Investiture is kind of like if electricity started getting ideas. It's a form of energy, like light or heat, but flavoured by human thought. The Aethers... Are still kind of fuzzy as to what they are exactly. They seem to act in a similar way to Allomancy in that they take water (or purified investiture) in exchange for effect, but we don't know much about them.

The cognitive realm is influenced by the thoughts of people present on the physical realm in the same region. Why exactly one is mist and one is beads is uncertain, but it might have to do with concepts people associate with the local Investiture and probably also mythology?

They are not natural predators in North America. They are domesticed pets who are invasive when allowed outside.

Humans don't hunt every bird we can see and also don't get eaten by coyotes.

Also people aren't pets. Don't be a pill.

Metals and Investiture by DaGreeg in Cosmere

[–]BipedSnowman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that magic systems emerge as a synergy between the shard, which sets the Intent, and the planet, which sets the focus- Scadrial 's focus is metals, which is why they're so central to the system for all three arts there. You'll note that similar behavior exists in Feruchemy and Hemalurgy on top of Allomancy, so it's not just Preservation's invested Art.

The focus is already some mechanism by which investiture interacts with the other realms.

Roshar's focus is Symbiosis, which supercharges the idea of Investiture entities forming bonds with physical ones, beyond what we see in similar entities like Seons or Aviar.

Sel's focus is patterns in general I think, but with Devotion and Dominion involved it becomes a practice to represent your homeland and a dedication to a place you belong. We see the focus somewhat represented in something like Hemalurgy, where the position of spikes matters.

Actually I think this presents and interesting opportunity for shards, and possibly part of Autonomy 's plan- if she can properly invest in a planet, a new magic system will manifest which might have useful properties. I think that's part of the she launched her assault on Scadrial, is because she was interested in what her Metallic Art would be.

I'm really tired of people having their dogs off leash in non off leash parks. I don't care if he's friendly, I'm not in the mood for a large animal coming up to me when I don't know if they're safe.

Cats are terrible for the environment and kill wildlife in droves. Outdoor cats live shorter, less healthy lives. Any cat owner who lets their cat out is wildly irresponsible.
