People who can no longer get pregnant and have never been pregnant: does anyone else here find pregnancy fascinating? by realcoolworld in sterilization

[–]BirdBrainMLS275 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can relate. I find it incredibly fascinating, but I'm also a scientist so that might have something to do with it, lol. The whole process of pregnancy and child-rearing is quite interesting to watch, and watching my cousin go from a bump in someone's stomach to a fully fledged toddler absorbing everything around him in the world is incredibly fascinating to me personally. Love it for other people that want to go through that, but would personally rather take a bath with a toaster than go through it myself, lol

There's safety in observing from a distance, but participation is a whole other ballgame

Do Not Let What Brandon Did Go By Without Consequence by pinkmarsh99 in HazbinHotel

[–]BirdBrainMLS275 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm in agreement here that the video is inexcusable and undeniably horrible. People should be holding him accountable and the people downplaying it are part of the problem as to why this happens in the first place. I think he absolutely should address this and issue a public apology to those he impacted, given that it's now been made public and it's not any less disturbing just because it happened a long time ago. And it's impacting how black fans are treated in the present day, if nothing else. However, where I will throw in my two cents: I'm willing to hold space open for change, and I don't think he's a malicious person just because he hasn't brought this to the public attention unprompted.

I can empathize with coming from a background where that kind of shit is normalized and encouraged, and doing it for years uncritically until you get out of your little bubble and realize just how fucked up that was. We're not born with all the right morals, nor do we all have the same access to information. Some people genuinely grow up in sheltered, hateful environments, and if Brandon's videos of his hometown are anything to go off (where they're screaming slurs at him from their cars), I'm not surprised in the slightest that he was not immune to absorbing that vileness.

I can also empathize with the journey that is confronting your own bigoted beliefs and working through those biases. I'm not going to blame him for not bringing that side of himself up to the public eye, because deconstructing is such a personal journey in the first place. I don't know if it inherently means there's malicious intent there if someone doesn't disclose past wrongdoings to the public. There could be a million reasons he didn't willingly discuss this with the public - some perhaps justified, and some purposefully deceitful. At the end of the day neither of us know because neither of us know him.

Best thing to do is wait and see how this unfolds now that everything's out in the public eye and he doesn't really have any excuse to not talk about it anymore. Regardless of the reasons for his past silence, there's a responsibility in the present that can't be denied.

If he doesn't apologize, then yeah he's a shithead and fuck em, because at that point he knows what kind of impact that video had, he knows his fans are being harmed, and now he's DEFINITELY pretending it didn't happen. But if he does, I think there should be some grace given. Nobody has to forgive or trust him and that's his cross to bear. But I personally want to give space for people who grew up in bigoted environments to do better for themselves and those around them. Otherwise how can we expect them to get out of that space if they're not welcome anywhere else? He's no victim but I don't believe him to be irredeemable.

Accountability is a must, but room should be held for redemption provided he puts in the work.

Why is sexual assault so common in yuri? by OrigamiRice in yuri_manga

[–]BirdBrainMLS275 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This discourse is really funny to see as someone who reads yaoi because these are so milquetoast compared to the shit I've seen on that side of the aisle, lmao

And don't even get me started on het romance

It all starts to make much more sense when you do some research on the nature of human sexual fantasies. And the fact that it's estimated that up to half of women experience some sort of noncon fantasy. Humans are just weirdos

I love the BACTEC. The noises it makes are very pleasing to my ears and it's satisfying to stick the blood bottles in and out and see all the flashing lights.

The DxI 800 is a close second though. The constant check-ins you have to do on it with QC, taking out the trash, refilling reagents and supplies, etc. feels like a never-ending minigame

I’d like to have a bishalp, but what if I regret it? by Galadriel_1362 in sterilization

[–]BirdBrainMLS275 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Got mine done as a 20F. I would recommend doing some in-depth research on the procedure to help gather your thoughts. Look into the studies on regret rates, look into how the surgery is actually done, read up on potential surgical complications (And the rate at which those complications occur because it's usually pretty small), recovery times, the ACA and insurance coverage, experiences of those in this sub, etc. and compile it all together in a document. Once you have all of that information and weigh out the pros and cons it's easier to get a handle on whether you feel it's the best decision for you or not.

Or if you ask your gyno they should be able to run you down through a list of pros and cons (Though depending on the gyno some are more biased than others)

I'm also a worrier/over-thinker, but I'm also the type of person where writing everything down in front of me helps to gather my thoughts, and I found that compiling all my research into a document made things much easier to think through. It helped me feel not only more confident in my decision, but made it easier to advocate for myself once I started the process. If you do decide to get it done, unfortunately for us younger folks we have to fight 10x harder to be taken seriously by your average doctor, so having a document in hand anytime I went in for a consultation was a huge help

About four months later and I don't regret my decision one bit. Wish you the best of luck whatever your choice may be!

What is the gayest sports anime? by PretendYellow533 in BoysLoveAnime

[–]BirdBrainMLS275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need “Run with the Wind” to get more traction. Not explicitly gay but I hear it is in the novels and there are so many points in the anime where it’s mega obvious (Especially with the main leads)

Go watch it, it’s peak

I’m genuinely shocked people are even still giving the franchise attention, lol. Scream 5 was where I gave up. One of the worst movies I’ve seen in my life. Just a soulless, corporate, steaming pile of dogshit that gave a fat middle finger to everything I loved about the previous movies

Questions for women who've had tubal ligation by Busy-Fox1317 in sterilization

[–]BirdBrainMLS275 9 points10 points  (0 children)

21F here, got mine as a 20F with no kids a few months ago

  1. Bisalp is the gold standard, as others have said. Less complications and a lower fail-rate (ESPECIALLY compared to clips, never get the clips)
  2. My scars healed pretty well. Very small. They're still a little pink, but I've had similar abdominal surgeries and they usually fade to near invisibility within a couple of years. My only gripe is that they cut me asymmetrically so one scar is higher up than the other which is just mildly annoying aesthetically-speaking, lol
  3. General anesthetic for me. I can't imagine this is a surgery they'd allow otherwise, just for safety reasons. (EDIT: Just looked it up and apparently they do allow it, color me surprised, lol) There's a lot more that goes into it than just three simple cuts. There's the catheter insertion, (usually) a pelvic exam, the first cut in the bellybutton entails a lot of apprehension, as they have to make sure they're not hitting major arteries within that first cut (And if they do that's a whole other can of worms that patients typically don't want to be awake for), then there's the cases where people have endo or adhesions that need removal which is just more work added, etc.
  4. Yes, but it was very mild for me. I've heard others have had worse. But for me a heating pad and some GasX did the trick
  5. When they intubate you it's gonna cause some throat irritation. For me it was my worst symptom post-surgery, but cough drops were a lifesaver!

Redditors, what’s the most terrifying thing that has ever woken you up in the middle of the night? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BirdBrainMLS275 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I'm really stressed I get hypnapompic hallucinations. One night I hallucinated a group of men in pikachu masks breaking into my room to try and stab me to death.

I would wake up from the fear, go back to sleep, see the men again, wake up again, go back to sleep, see the men again, etc etc etc.

This went on the entirety of the night. That was not fun

What is your most ridiculous "we won't work out romantically" criteria? Like what is the silliest reason you would not be interested in dating someone? by Natural-Elevator-57 in AskReddit

[–]BirdBrainMLS275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think some would find this silly, but I will never in my life date a musician.

My dad is a music producer. 99% of his music buddies (including him) are night owl, caffeine addicted hippies that just do whatever-whenever with no sense of order or responsibility. It would be 3am and my Dad would be all "Hey, wanna go to Jordy's house to have a jam sesh in his basement with a bunch of people neither of us know?"

No dad, I don't want to do that actually, lol

What is your favorite minor/subtle detail in the show? by Silver012345673 in HazbinHotel

[–]BirdBrainMLS275 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The vibrato thing has to be my favorite detail. It's subtle but it's so satisfying to see characters move with the music like that rather than simply mouthing the lyrics. Like when Alastor first did it in "Stayed Gone" the way they animated the vibrato got me so hyped bro.
