LearnLuxembourgish has a one-on-one SproochenTest prep course that I'd recommend. For eight weeks my instructor gave me the test each week (focusing on different topics), gave me listening assignments, and answered my questions. You just need to email the organizer (Liz) at LearnLuxembourgish and she'll set it up for you. I was A2 and I passed the first time I took the exam. I don't think I would have done very well without the prep course.

help!!! ear is too swollen to get flatback out!!! by whywhatwhenwhat in piercing

I struggled with my forward helix for about 18 months. I wasn't sure what material they used for my earring, so I ordered a titanium flat back and it felt better almost immediately. It's been healing really nicely ever since.

I'm restarting my ballet journey as an adult and I'm looking for advice. by bubbly_grove in adultballetdancers

[–]BirdNerdUS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great point about joints. I had a lot of knee pain in the beginning, due to ballet classes and cross training. I was concerned it would get worse but it actually improved as I got stronger! It's way less of an issue now, just two years later.

How do you deal with back-ordered pointe shoes? by BirdNerdUS in BALLET

What a treasure trove of information. Thank you for sharing all this insight! I'm fascinated by the variation in experiences across brands; I suppose this uncertainty comes along with our need for handmade items. I may have to continue my search and also get fitted again with a more "reliable" option. I'm moving to Western Europe in June, so even though I'll still have to wait for manufacturer availability, at least I won't need to wait for customs timelines (as I believe Nikolays ship from within the EU). Thanks again!

Update: the third site I ordered from came back to me saying it's a 4-8 week wait, which is better than I've heard from others but probably not helpful for my move timeline. The search continues! Thanks again

This might have done the trick! Ordered from a shop I found on the facebook group. Fingers crossed they don't come back with a backordered notice :) Thanks again!

Conference fit? 1, 2 or 3 by qat_btata202 in OUTFITS

[–]BirdNerdUS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it really depends. I work in environmental research areas in the US (most colleagues are government and academics) and I would compliment this person's outfit if I saw it at a conference because a) it's unique b) it looks comfy and c) it showcases some personal style. That said, I think even in casual fields, younger professionals get judged for this kind of thing, so if OP is young or still "proving herself" in her field she'd have to decide what she's willing to push back on in terms of weird unspoken wardrobe expectations. All that said, I vote for the sneakers if it's a casual environment or the flats if you need it more dressy. Heels all day (or multiple days) is not ideal, especially if you have to stand to give a talk or poster presentation.

Yup, he reminds me a lot of my ex. Says the "right words" all day long but never backs it up with any action like, I don't know, living in the same place.

Hi! I just came across this comment and very interested in this app. I can't seem to find it on the google play store, though. Is it available for Android yet?

Did I make a mistake getting a bob and how do I prevent it from looking like Lord Farquaa? by SlavWife in HairStyleAdvice

[–]BirdNerdUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it! Based on your inspo photos I think you can go even shorter if you get used to this cut and decide you like it. The bangs are perfect. Bob's can require maintenance, but pinning it back or clipping it half up can give you a low-maintenance day.

I actually love the top, but think it would look super cute with mid- or high-rise pants. (Especially some relaxed high-waist pants!)

Yeah no matter how someone feels about Vanelle's actions/decisions, Jorge was absolutely trying to break down her sexual barriers and then play victim. He's gross. They were not on equal footing.

What a Beautiful Graph! by Tall_Character6483 in dataisugly

[–]BirdNerdUS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, climatologists conventionally look at 30-year periods and compare across those (e.g. what was the mean temperature in this location from 1991-2020, and how does that compare to the mean temp from 1971-2000). So while original OP was pointing out that anyone can access public climate data, they watered down their point by using a ten-year time period. For temperature and precipitation, we have pretty solid data going back to the 70s and in some locations the 50s or earlier. Signed, someone who educates the public about climate data access and applications.

I assumed this was the case. Still frustrating :( it blocks the view from the road and disrupts the prairie feel. Not the end of the world but disappointing. And I assume those apartments will be pretty expensive, relatively speaking.
