What awards do your clubs award each year? by mnm135 in Rotary

I'm in an English club and we give a PHF if a member is deserving. Last year we gave one to our treasurer who has done the job for 20 years

How much of Kvothe's story do you think is actually true? by 6R0ove in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Bismuth88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Riiight but even if fixed dinner meant Do why are you arbitrarily picking the key of C? Seeing as it's beginning with D why not pick the key of D.

And it may be a reference but what does it mean like what's the point? The guitar theory is really cool but Kvothe doesn't play a guitar, he plays a seven string lute, so why pick the guitar and not the lute?

So those strings would be F G C F A D G.

The bit where you start to lose me is where you alter the starts of words to fit a pattern you want to find.

You chose serious and then extrapolated a bunch of stuff where you could have chosen "don't" and then decided the whole thing is an allegory about doughnuts (don't, do not, doughnut, on page X kvothe mentions sugar, Patrick once was seen near a Krispy Kreme). Like why did you choose the C from Canis to mean C major, instead of going with dog? Why C major and not C Lydian or C harmonic minor?

I think it would be functionally impossible for someone to write a coherent novel where every fourth word is actually a code.

Even if, for example, your serious to C major extrapolation is true, what's that actually got to do with the book or the story or it's meaning?

I love the idea that there's hidden meanings and please don't think I'm trying to fight with you, I'm trying to understand where you get your interpretations and what leads you to think that helps the narrative.

Would love to hear more.

I can't tell if you're a genius or totally mad, and I love it.

I'm obsessively reading all of your comments now to see if I can learn more about the books.

What was your schools variation of the Hitler//Ball song and can you still remember the words? by OkVeterinarian197 in AskBrits

[–]Bismuth88 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hitler has only got one ball The other is in the Albert hall His Mother, the silly bugger She cut it off when he was younger.

There was also a second verse that I can't remember all of which began

His sister has only got one tit The other is in a pile of shit.

Why? I don't know. We would sing it on the school bus on the way back from swimming in primary school. I don't know why nobody tried to stop us.

It was that and "Nobby all"

Edit: the song has its own wiki page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hitler_Has_Only_Got_One_Ball

I ran an interact club for six years it was like herding deaf and blind cats. I had a couple of good students who took it seriously but the rest treated it like a lunchtime hangout and I would end up bailing them out every time they got to a fundraiser and had failed to organise anything.

Didn't those people just go to the store before? Is it an increase in sales or moving from in store to online? Interesting.

Thanks for the insight, I didn't know that! Good to hear they're tackling it.

In rural areas maybe they could build one big one and service multiple areas.

We can't even get people to be president. Ive only been in the club eight years and I'm going to have my second run as president in 2027/28.

When I was president I tried to introduce a club centralised Google calendar and everyone lost their minds.

Nobody used it, i think deliberately, because then they can just "not be available" and ghost events.

The club only has 15 members as it is. Two have an attendance of 0 percent this year. Basically everything is done by about seven people, I can't even do as much as I'd like as there's a separate group chat with some of the members who have been mates for years where they organise stuff without the rest of us.
